The young tortoiseshell had been summoned into the medicine cat's den, a cloud-darkened sky offering little hope for any communication from StarClan. Cloverheart had sat quietly until she'd arrived, bowing her head politely once the apprentice had arrived. "We'll have to be quiet," she whispered, tail flicking towards Ebonyhaze's dark form, curled in the corner. "I'm sorry this is... unconventional. I wish we were actually at Highstones right now." The pale she-cat dipped her head, then angled her attention towards an empty nest nearby. "We're just going to sleep here tonight, and hopefully someone will reach you. If you have anything to say to me, feel free to chat on until you drift off." As she spoke, Cloverheart settled down in her own bed of moss and reeds, carefully folding her legs to the side.

Poppypaw looked around the medicine den eagerly. She’d only been there a couple of times before when she’d gotten hurt, but never for very long. It always felt comforting every time she was in there. Some cats mention smelling sickness or injury every time they went there, like it was in the air, but Poppypaw only ever smelled the herbs, which put her at ease.
She looked over at Ebonyhaze and then gave Cloverheart a gentle headbutt. “I’m sure the trips to the Highstones will be able to continue soon. I still appreciate you giving me a chance to dream with StarClan tonight.” She smiled, hoping that Cloverheart wasn’t taking everything too hard. The entire clan seemed to be in poor spirits since the ghosts invaded, and Poppypaw couldn’t blame them.
She moved to the nest and settled down. She looked over at Cloverheart one last time before she relaxed and closed her eyes.
No dreams of StarClan or special words from the beyond came to Poppypaw as she slept. She was scarcely aware of a dream at all. There was only darkness around her, and any connection she could have hoped for with StarClan had been severed. The night came and went in the blink of an eye.
Poppypaw stirred a bit and blinked a couple of times. She thought that she must have woken up partially in the night, but she could see some light streaming through the entrance of the medicine den. It was morning. StarClan had not come to her. She pushed herself up and stretched in the nest before giving Cloverheart a smile.
“Nothing,” she mewed softly, hoping the disappointment was not evident in her voice. “Do you think StarClan will return to us soon? They can’t be gone forever, right?”
