Apparently, cats were gathering around tonight, for some reason. The concept of a gathering was lost on Dovepaw, as she had been a kit during the last one that had taken place. So seeing the dark forest cats gathering in camp was odd, and Dovepaw was curious.
She took a seat by Martenpaw, taking note of the way she was eyeing Kitepaw. And Kitepaw.... looked like.....Kitepaw? She was looking nervous, but wasn't Kitepaw always a little shy? She didn't understand... There seemed to be a lot she didn't understand tonight.

Rushpaw noted the way that cats seemed to gather. He had never been to fourtrees, known the rituals of the clans. Instead, it seemed like every other evening. However, now, Dark Forest cats seemed to be writhing around in the center of camp. Their presence was a normal thing to the apprentice, who had grow up underneath their rule. It was the demeanor of his clanmates and clan that had instilled in him a disdain towards the unwelcome guests, no matter how familiar they were.
Glancing around the clearing, he sought out the pelts of his siblings, longing to be around them or Flywhisker rather than the odd beasts. Other than their strange appearance, they just seemed like distant clanmates, if anything. Regardless, he preferred kin. And better yet, among his littermates was Poppypaw. Subconsciously, a soft smile touched his maw. Rushpaw trotted over prepared to greet them. His eyes drifted to the mounting match between Owlpaw and a Dark Forest cat. It made him pause. Should he have been confronting one too?
Uncertain, he settled back on his haunches to watch near Martenpaw and Dovepaw. After a a few seconds, he dipped his head to the other gathered cats and focused on his kin and Poppypaw, "You all doing well?" It was all he could think to ask, gaze flickering between them and the interaction in the middle of camp.

The apprentice had no words to say to this cat, and only a glare in response. This time, Owlpaw was ready. His golden eyes narrowed considerably, the tom recoiling quickly enough to where the paw just barely brushed his chest fur. It was still too close for Owlpaw's liking. He had to get faster. With muscles bunched, the apprentice lunched forward, staying low to avoid exposing his soft belly. Instead, he channeled what he had done to Rushpaw during the apprentice games Poppypaw had put together. Owlpaw stepped to the side, catching the shadowy cat's tail in his teeth, and pulled as hard as he could.

All of a sudden, three more cats had joined the group, Ashflight's watchful gaze giving her a little bit of comfort. Safety in numbers. Dovey's confusion was evident in her voice and Martenpaw did her best to explain, though understanding was not complete in her mind. "I think this is the 'gathering' the older warriors were talking about... everyone is gathering together. As long as we stick together I'm sure we'll be fine." she assured with a steady, soft voice. To Rushpaw, she gave him a look, both mischievous and supportive, then a nod as an answer to his question.

Whitesnake had decided he would give the apprentice a chance, let him show him what he could do. The tom darted past him, and Whitesnake laughed as he felt teeth brush his sodden tail fur. "Good, very good. Maybe your mentor is teaching you after all." He purred, sounding truly delighted as he whipped around to face the tom, yanking his tail away with force. With the same playfullnesss he'd showed before, Whitesnake aimed a flurry of quick blows at the apprentice's chest... Not particularly taking much care to keep his claws fully sheathed. A little blood wouldn't hurt him, after all. "On your paws, 'paw!" He grinned, looking for all the world as if this were just a friendly training session with no seriousness attached, because for Whitesnake, this is exactly what it was.

Poppypaw
Despite her attention constantly being pulled back to Owlpaw and the Dark Forest cat, Poppypaw tried to give smiles and soft greetings to the other cats that joined her side. She gave a small smile to Martenpaw, and tried to remember if they’d spoken before. She didn’t think they had. The thought that she should speak with her was quickly pulled away by another rough call from Whitesnake. Her gaze slid over to watch his interaction with Owlpaw and she almost didn’t notice Ashflight approach. Her eyes glanced at him briefly and she shifted to brush her cheek against his statuesque figure. Dovepaw’s voice pulled her attention but before she could hear Martenpaw’s response, Rushpaw arrived. There were many cats around her now, which was nice, but it put her more on edge as she saw Owlpaw out of the corner of her eye while she studied Rushpaw.
“Ah...yes,” Poppypaw mewed to Rushpaw, though her voice was soft. She grew quiet and let the others respond in their own turn. While they spoke, she looked towards Owlpaw and Whitesnake again. She cringed a bit when she saw him give a bit of a swipe at Owlpaw. Her heart started pounding in her chest. If Owlpaw just left and came to them, then-
Poppypaw jumped to her feet, muscles tense, when Owlpaw grabbed the Dark Forest’s tail. Her voice screamed in her head for Owlpaw to stop, but no words actually came to her tongue. Scarcely a breath had passed before Whitesnake turned and attacked Owlpaw in turn. Poppypaw saw red jump from Owlpaw’s chest and paint the tip of Whitesnake’s paw. She felt dizzy for a moment as time stood still. She saw Beaverpaw, lying in a pool of red. She saw other cats at the last Gathering, dropping all around them. She saw Softfall and his gray fur smeared with her own blood; the way her blood painted the snow as she ran home. Not again. She couldn’t handle violence again. Poppypaw felt like she was drowning in the river.
Her body bolted from the spot; in a flash she had been sitting beside Kitepaw and the other cats, and then she was gone. She closed the distance between the group and Owlpaw in an instant and she stood tense between him and the Dark Forest cat. For a moment her pupils were slanted and still all she could see was the violence that had plagued her clan for the past moon. Her claws dug into the dirt below her paws and her voice came far louder than she’d ever spoken before: ”STOP!”
Poppypaw breathed heavily and it took her a moment to regain control over herself. Her body slowly relaxed and her claws sheathed. Her tail thrashed with anxiety, but she didn’t move from her protective stance in front of Owlpaw and in the face of the Dark Forest cat.
“The Gathering is a time of peace between cats,” she mewed slowly, hoping her voice wouldn’t get choked up with the fear she felt. “It is not the time for…fighting. Or training. It is a time of peace and happiness together.” She forced her fur to flatten and her tail to still. “Please. Not tonight.”
She took a couple of steps back, bumping against Owlpaw to encourage him to move back with her. She kept her eyes trained on Whitesnake, afraid that he might retaliate, but refusing to back down anyway.

Yet again, when he pulled the tail, the cat simply turned his way. The same way Rushpaw did, shaking off the stun with a quick breath. Owlpaw still had so much to learn. The thought only grew stronger as he tried to pull away again, seeing the sharp claws speeding towards him. Was he even fit to be a warrior? There had been talk of it with his mentor. But if this shadowy cat could simply round on him before Owlpaw could even react...what business did he have being a warrior?
The claws raked his chest, tearing well-groomed black fur from his pelt. A rush of blood followed in suit, ribboning across the ground. The blood hit the ground with a sickening splatter, and the apprentice wavered where he stood, yellow eyes wide as an owl. This was a spar not a battle! A growl escaped the tom, but through the pain, Owlpaw didn't move. Not until the pelt of his friend entered his vision. He couldn't quite make out what she said through the ringing in his ears, but just the sight of her let him take a deep breath. The sharp pain dulled for a moment.
Not arguing as she lead him away, Owlpaw's gaze turned to Whitesnake. Either a threat or a promise. Owlpaw would not forget what had just happened. Finally, he turned towards Poppypaw, watching her face for a long moment. Then, in a quiet mew, he whispered. "I'm sorry. I let him goad me on, and you had to go out of your way to step in."
Blood welled from where his claws struck, and Whitesnake stared, fascinated at the warm substance coating his claws. To feel so alive again... The living didn't understand just how good they had it. The dark apprentice stumbled back, a growl rising in his throat. Then another apprentice was charging forward with a yowl. "Oh relax, he'll be fine. It's just a few scratches, nothing to get your tail in a twist over." Whitesnake mewed, sitting and calmly lifting a pale paw to groom the blood from his claws. There didn't seem to be any concern at all in the dark forest tom for the apprentice's safety at all as he continued, "It was nothing more than a friendly spar, we aren't in fourtrees. And besides, he shows quick thinking. He'll make a fine warrior, I'm sure." He made no move to follow as the apprentice was led away, however bright golden eyes remained on their pelts, a small smirk playing at the tom's maw.
Blood never stopped dripping from his scarred face and it was a disgusting complexion no one deliberately longed to see. One of his favorite pastimes, however, included enjoying the horrified looks kits gave him when he gave them a close-up look. I haven't really any idea why I'm here... someone mentioned training apprentices? Ugh- I left the clans seasons ago for this very reason. Apprentices are never any good. he grumbled inwardly, stretching out of his rested position.
A band of apprentices seemed to be clumping into a group, a warrior watching over the gang. Had he just missed a fight? Thorns. That would've been a fun sight to see. Slinking in the shadows, he made himself unnoticed, hoping the scent of blood from the dark-furred apprentice's chest would be strong enough to mask his own. A particularly confused-looking apprentice was his selected target. Cursed-stars, I'll bet she's gonna squeal just like a kit! Giddy with excitement, he could only bear to wait just a little longer.
"BOO!" he yowled, leaping into the innocent apprentice's face. Blood oozed from the fleshy gashes embedded in his scarred maw. A maniacal cackle followed the little apprentice's reaction, delight truly found in this stunt. The joy he felt from being able to cause mischief in this quaint family was clearly written in his glazed eyes.

The silver-furred tom had no qualms with the dark forest cat's being in the camp or sparing with the apprentices, although everyone made a big deal out of having Owlpaw bleed just a little bit Moon shrugged. This was compltley normal among the twolegplace cats, with the toughest surviving and the weakest dying off. As clan cat's made a big deal he sighed and looked at Whitesnake, the dark forest tom had seemed to loosen up in camp. "Whitesnake? Can I talk with you?" he called out. He didn't necessary like the tom, but he felt that Whitesnake would be a very influental cat and if he could make friends he could protect the one's that he loved. As he called out to the dark warrior, he saw that Leechface was lunching himself towards an apprentice.
Quickly thinking, he turned around and attack the dark forest warrior. "Leave the apprentice's alone Leechface." he spat. "This is a gathering and is therefore supposed to be a time of peace, you were a warrior once, perhaps not a noble one. But a warrior none the less." he hissed. Moon didn't care for the warrior code, however in this case it would protect the living and prevent fighting from braking out within the camp.

Perchfall had been on a small hunting patrol for most of the afternoon. Due to the recent turning of seasons, it was far more fruitful than she had initially expected: three large fish hung from her jaws as she padded back onto the small island of RiverClan camp. She thought that she would go into camp, put her prey in the fresh-kill pile, and make sure the next cats were ready to go on that patrol. She did not think that she would walk in on a yelling match between Dark Forest cats and apprentices in the middle of camp.
Hurriedly dropping her fish in a safe location, the deputy ran between the shadows and her Clanmates. "I see that I chose the wrong time to go hunting," she meowed neutrally, keeping her calm face on as she glanced between both sides. Her eyes met Whitesnake's for a moment. "We do not use claws when sparring with Clanmates, and we do not spar in the middle of camp. I realize you have been gone for a while and may have forgotten how RiverClan functions; drawing unnecessary blood in a friendly match is unacceptable." She looked next at the other side-- mostly apprentices. Owlpaw was injured, Poppypaw fussed over him, Ashflight stood protectively next to them both. She nodded gratefully at him, communicating wordlessly her thankfulness that he had been paying attention while she was gone. Then she spoke to the apprentices-- mostly to Owlpaw, with a touch of stern concern. "Please, watch yourselves. These times are dangerous. I don't want Cloverheart to use any more herbs than necessary. I know tensions are high, but I would appreciate a little bit more caution."
All she could do was speak, but her words rang hollow and empty even to her own ears. This was the extent of her authority. With a quiet sigh, Perchfall sat down, not moving from between the two parties. "That being said, discussion is always allowed. If anyone wants to talk or share tongues, please do so... but no unsheathed claws are permitted in camp."

"Yeah, I'm still doing well," Kitepaw said. She didn't know how to elaborate further, honestly. The russet-furred apprentice didn't know how to continue conversations properly. Every time she tried, they usually just... stalled out. She ran out of things to talk about in the first few heartbeats. She didn't even notice the fight going on between Owlpaw and one of the Dark Forest warriors until Poppypaw stepped in between them to stop the fight. Stars, was I that distracted? When a Dark Forest cat lunged at her sister, obviously scaring her, Kitepaw turned in anger. "Hey!" she said. "Don't scare my sister like that! It's not funny!" Turning to her sister, the she-cat began consoling her. "Don't worry, Dovey, it's gonna be okay. I won't let them hurt you."

The Riverclan deputy had finally deigned to show up, large fish in her jaws, and Whitesnake couldn't help but wrinkle his nose at the sight of the prey. Lizards, mice... He'd even take toads or birds over the crowfood Riverclan ate. Not that he needed the food, of course, but it was fun to mess with the minds of the living and make them think he did. An insolent scoff left him at Perchfall's words, and he lifted his shoulder in a shrug. "Hmm, so you're telling me you'd rather Riverclan be weak? What sort of leaders does this clan have? Almost as inept as the Shadowclan of old I grew up in." His whiskers twitched, "I don't take orders from you, but I'll refrain if it will help sooth your fragile hearts." He continued lazily, continuing to clean the blood off of his claws meticulously.
As Poppypaw darted forward to intervene, he followed after without thinking. Rushpaw wasn't quite at her side, a pace back, just in case she needed him. Her sights had been focused on Owlpaw since he arrived, concern there. It caused his chest to tighten but he thought little of it. The she-cat was right, this was no time for a fight. Owlpaw's apology made him want to hiss, although he stuffed it away. Of course, it had been ridiculous to involved himself in such things. Rushpaw didn't expect anything else from the other apprentice.
Thankfully, Perchfall arrived. The deputy's presence provided some level of comfort - he knew she would do anything to protect Poppypaw. There wasn't anything he could do or say here, as was the case with any interaction with the Dark Forest monsters. A yowl from behind him caused his head to whip around. One of them was near his littermates. Conflict budded up within the dark-russet tom but he had to trust the deputy could handle things but he needed to at least be at their side. Padding back over, occasionally glancing back to Poppypaw.
Fixing Leechface with a glare, he stood next to Dovepaw. What an ugly beast. He wanted to rip more wounds into that monstrous face.

Dovepaw had just been talking with her siblings, and as usual did not pay too much attention to her surroundings. That was, until a loud yowl, and one of the dark forest cats was quite literally in her face. Screaming, she leapt back, tears streaming her eyes. Her heart had nearly stopped from the fright, and she couldn't stop trembling. She hardly even knew what had happened, but now she was in a panic, crying in fear, without even registering that she had not been physically harmed. The act itself had hurt her enough.
Moon went after the dark forest cat, apparently named Leechface, while her siblings came by her side, and Dovepaw tried to slow her racing heart. Although she found that she was still sobbing. She had been so scared, and she didn't know what to think of that experience. Why did this cat have to be so mean?
