Our First Training [c]

As most of the ice and snow began to melt away, Hollyleaf smiled, feeling sure Newleaf was right around the corner. That was more than pleasant, considering lots of her hunting attempts with Owlpaw would become much easier than now. It'd take a while before he could officially become a warrior, and by his reaction to their first meeting, she could tell he was eager to look at the sceneries outside. Leading the young tom to her usual hunting spot, she stopped, ears swiveled— and nostrils keen, just in case Softfall decided to strike again. The ThunderClan tom was unpredictable, and she'd much rather keep her new apprentice safe from harm.

"Keep an eye out for a gray, fluffy tom with ThunderClan scent," She mewed, "Getting involved with him would be messy. He has a grudge on our clan." Though, with that said, she offered him an encouraging nod to move forward towards the river. "This is Sunningrocks, where our border with ThunderClan separates. Prey is efficient here, though. I suppose that's why. We'll start with hunting."

As she quickly switched the topic, Hollyleaf motioned with her tail for him to watch, and dropped into a hunting crouch. As she watched fish swam by, the molly took her chance— and reached to one with outstretched paws. Though, it seemed like she's been mistaken. With a horrifying hiss, it bit her paw, and the warrior gritted her teeth. Hauling it onto land— she pinned it down, making sure to press its head to the ground. "Be careful, Owlpaw! It's a snake. These vicious creatures don't tend to be too dangerous though, but you'll need to act fast."

Hollyleaf attempted to catch Fish for 7 SP! It was Unsuccessful and spawned a predator instead.
Snake appeared! Snake used Serpent Strike, dealing 6 damage and using 10 SP!

Since Sunningrocks have a +2 hunting range for us, our current season is 'Harsh season', having prey from 1-3 max. But with sunningrock's bonus, if you roll the hunting dice, you'll get 1-5 instead from the bonus. I hope this helps! If you're still confused, feel free to ask me or Staff for more.)

A world without the snow and ice seemed foreign to the young tom. Sure, he knew life outside of the snow existed, but he only recently was able to spot the grass that snuck out from behind the snow. What an odd feeling. He rather liked it. Falling in step with Hollyleaf, he admired their territory with a proud spring in his step. They truly were the best clan, weren't they? "Sounds like a jealous cat," Owlpaw remarked, jumping over a root, and hurrying to catch up with his mentor. He didn't like to admit it, but Owlpaw still had small legs. Though, he was still growing. "If they really wanted the Sunningrocks, they would take them." The tom huffed. Yet, he still fell silent to watch his mentor hunt. Enthralled, the apprentice made a point to try and mimic her positioning just as if he too was hunting. Down to the tensing of her muscles. Owlpaw let out a half jump as Hollyleaf jumped, swiping a snake into the air, sending the snake careening.

Suddenly alert, Owlpaw hesitated for a moment before lunging forward. His sharp claws dug into the snake, causing large gashes on the back of its spine. Despite his best effort, the snake still barely struggled, barely alive. "It's uh, still moving...!"

Owlpaw uses Front Paw Strike, dealing 6 HP damage and using 7 SP.

Without any claws needed, Hollyleaf slammed her paw onto the creature's head, and it hissed again— only to fall, lying limp on the ground. With an impatient flick of the tail, she sniffed the creature, pawing it. "It's done for good now. Good job, Owlpaw," She'd offer the tom a small smile. He could easily defend himself from the snake just a moment ago, without any experience. That was good.

"Now, let's hope for something at least a bit better. Fishing up another snake or weasel would be more than unpleasant," She sighed, eyes darting across the river again, "Hopefully, it'll be alright this time. Let's try again." Positioning herself into the same crouch as earlier, her whiskers twitched— and she lunged for a movement. At another unsuccessful attempt, she frowned, only to let out a surprised yelp as another snake bit her back leg. "Fox-dung, how many even are here?" With narrowed eyes, her tail lashed, and she leaped up to the creature, yanking it's supposed-tail (or lower body) down. Though still conscious, it remained stunned for a moment. "Aim for its head, or neck if you can, Owlpaw. It's stunned for now."

Owlpaw visibly relaxed once the snake stopped moving. "I'm sure the clan will find snakes an interesting meal." The tom mused, taking a moment to bury the predator under some twigs and leaves for them to come back to later. In the meantime, he turned to watch Hollyleaf's positioning once again. He mimicked her stance, catching his misplaced paw into the right spot. Amber eyes followed his mentor's with all seriousness. They had just taken out a snake, hopefully, there weren't more of them.

Another one lunged out of nowhere, taking a bite of his mentor's paws. "Again?" He hissed, not hesitating this time to bury his jaw into the snake's body, hearing a crunch under his jaw's pressure. Though, despite it all, it still...wiggled. Ears folded back, the tom let go and disengaged. "Do they always travel in pairs?"

Immediately after, the snake realized it'd made a mistake aiming for them, and it released its grasp on Hollyleaf, sluggishly slithering away. Its injuries were far too deep, and even as it escaped, it wouldn't have been able to get too far. With a deep sigh, the molly backed away, motioning for the apprentice to attempt to hunt instead. "I don't suppose they do, though maybe that's something to keep in mind for next time you head out to hunt." The she-cat shook her head slowly, visibly frustrated by her failed attempts at hunting. It'd usually be much easier... was Beaverpaw's death still weighing on her that much? "I'm not sure if I'd want to continue. You can go first, Owlpaw. You can do it."

The apprentice tilted his head, eyes flickering towards her bite wound. "Are you sure?" He asked, nodding towards her leg. "Are you alright to continue?" Despite himself, the tom glanced in the direction of the water, catching a glimpse of a shadow. "Maybe just wait here. If another snake appears, I'll be sure to let you know." With a defined nod, the tom strutted off over the rocks, gazing into the crevices for any sign of the predators that had been plaguing them.

At the edge of the river, Owlpaw lingered, catching a shadow of something in the water. Shifting into his practiced position, he darted his paw into the water. For just a moment, his claw hooked on a fin, sending the prey against the rock. Not hesitating, he bit down on the spine of the fish. Pride flashing in his eyes, Owlpaw struts back to his mentor. Staggering as the fish struggled against his jaw. Finding his paws again, the tom rushed to the grass and dropped it for inspection. "My first catch! What do you think?" The apprentice purred loudly, tail lashing in pride.

"Thank you for worrying about me, Owlpaw," She'd softly smile, giving her wounds a few licks, "But with a visit to Cloverheart or Ebonyhaze, I'm sure it'll be fine. I've experienced these bites before. Their bites sting, but are usually not too bad." Nodding at the Owlpaw's other words, she lay down, continuing to lick them. At a splash of swift movement, a fish was spotted in her apprentice's jaws, and she grinned as he then set it down.

"Well done, Owlpaw. Both your catch and method were very decent," Hollyleaf let out a short purr. Her eyes scanned for any more fish in the river, and though she spotted a shadow or two, her wounds still... sharply ached. The molly knew better than to risk it and accidentally fall down the icy river— a small smirk appearing on her expression as she remembered back to Hollypaw's accident of it. That would've been embarrassing, to say the very least. And in front of her new apprentice as well... and so, she kept herself to the snowy patch on the ground, nodding slowly for Owlpaw to continue. "I wouldn't risk further injuring myself. I'll keep a lookout for you too, though, so don't worry."

He seemed to sit up straighter at the praise, his yellow eyes gleaming with pride. "Okay then." He left the fish by the snake to take back, and the apprentice hopped back towards the river. Feeling the sun on his black pelt, the warm rocks combated the cold. What a nice place to hunt. With a happy purr, Owlpaw settled down, watching the shapes of fish pass by. He spent a long while fishing before returning back to the side of his mentor. Plucking the snake from the ground, Owlpaw wrapped its limp body around his shoulders and its head in his mouth. With a satisfied strut, the tom led the way back to the camp. A snake on his first hunting trip! He was going to be a legend.
