A Sweep of the Land [Solo]

Finally, he had shaken off the last of that pesky greencough, it had only been a few days after the Overseers had been announced, and the news that they may be moving camp to the barn had been delivered. Tarot had taken it upon himself to sweep the potential home and make sure there were no signs of Windclan nor any signs of hidden dangers.

And perhaps catch something to eat, he needed his body to work itself back up to the condition it had been in before that sickness had hit.

So, paws sinking into thawing snow, he stalked around the newest addition to their patches of territory, large ears perked for any sounds of rodents under the snow or thick layers of decayed leaves. Upon catching the sound of something along the lines he was looking for he stalked towards it attempting to strike

Sadly, he soon lost the scent and couldn't hear it again even after a while of searching. Heedless, he continued.

His eyes roamed the barren lands, the scent of windclan briefly wafting through the air, making him frown. It really was close to those pesky clan cats. Perhaps he could try and secure another hiding place for his Order, he knew the twolegplace well, so he may be able to snare some land there for them.

They could always just expand further from the Clans too though, snag another patch of land, leaving unclaimed areas between so that their foes wouldn't be able toe easily find all of their hiding spots. Perhaps he could discuss the topic with Klaus when he got back.

Pausing, he headed to the barn itself, stepping in cautiously, it smelt of hay, mice (Faintly), and moulded grains. Ears swivelling wildly, he tried to pinpoint some prey. Eventually, he did and began stalking towards the area on light paws.

Before he could find it, another mouse burst out of a hole in the wall, snagging his attention. Wildly, he chased it, only for it to disappear below the floorboards. Cursing, he continued his search, sweeping the barn while trying to snag a quick meal. He was tempted to give up, already feeling drained, but he knew he had to push past that to regain his lost strength.

Before leaving the barn to continue his patrol, he tried to successfully catch at least one mouse one more time. Listening quietly, he followed another strong scent of a mouse, soon hearing more scratching.

He tried again.

Well, it seemed he had overstayed his welcome. Though he had come here to make sure it'd be safe for the Order if they moved here so he was still accomplishing his goal. Out of the woodwork had come a weasel, the aggressive little creature chittering and hissing. It seemed in the absence of regular patrols the creature had decided the barn was its'.

Tarot growled, slapping at the creature in warning, all it accomplished was the fuzzy snake jumping back and lunging at him. Latching onto his forearm, refusing to let go. With a snarl tarot struck at it with a bite, trying to tear it off. After getting a grip he thrashed, trying to cause more damage to the pesky creature.

His attack, of course, landing, the lithe mini-hunter was bloodied, it had most definitely bitten off more than it could chew. He could feel its grip loosening, but it seemed to resolutely not want to release its grip. Foolish, still, it'd make a decent meal.

Knowing the half-dead animal would be easily felled with one more bite, the lithe tomcat did jut that, jaws clamping on the creature's skull and tearing it off. Still, the animal had done some damage to him, he'd have to patch himself up when he got back to camp.

Lifting his head up, the now-dead animal hanging limp in his jaws, Tarot buried it in some snow outside the barn before continuing to scout the area. He still wanted to catch a mouse, then he'd have a decent haul to bring back from his brief daytrip.

Stepping through the land he kept his ears and nose alert for any signs of more prey. At one point he scented the rabbit, but he was unable to find the source after some searching. Padding closer to the border of Widclan, he looked over the distant moors, idly musing on what the foolish little clan cats were doing. He had heard that the raid against them had ended with the retreating of the Order, but no lives on their side had been lost. It was simply a testament to the will 'outsiders' had to survive.

Pulling himself from his musings, he continued looking, finding the scent of mouse once more and trailing it back to its source.

Once more, he was unsuccessful. Newleaf couldn't come any sooner, huh?

No matter, the ex-loner was relentless. He continued his search and kept an eye out for any more unexpected surprises.

So, he tried again. Nothing odd was seen in his wanderings through the area. Finally, he caught sight of another mouse, but it was quickly snatched from his sights by an owl.

Growling in annoyance, he continued his search, but soon enough, the sun began to grow low. While he hadn't managed to catch a mouse he had completed his sweep of the land, eliminated a possible competitor in prey for the Order, and had gained a whole weasel as prey for those who needed it back at camp. All in all, not a terrible day.

So, he began the trip back, his injured leg beginning to falter as the trip stretched on. Unconcerned by its weakness, he forged his way back home, a weasel hanging from his jaws.

While he was doubtful of the security of the abandoned barn from clanners, he couldn't deny that when new leaf came, there would be many mice to feed the members of their Order going by what he scented that day. They'd hardly be as lacking in prey as they were at base camp.

A small reassurance for him in light of their proximity to their foes, but a reassurance nonetheless.
