Rosepaw and Batsong Training

Batsong awoke as the morning sun came into the warriors den. She had slept so well lately, the lavender from Rose had helped so much with that and it even lessened the frequency of her nightmares. She had been given it as a gift from Rose back when she was a kit and Batsong had put some in her nest as she told her and it worked quite well.

She grinned happily, now her friend also got to be her apprentice... she was super excited for that. She was also the tiniest bit nervous as well however, being a newly named warrior herself she hoped she would be able to do a good job at this. She wanted the best for Rosepaw. She took a deep breath and pushed herself up and walked out of the warriors den.

She walked over to the apprentice den and poked her head in quietly she spotted her curled up in a nest and grinned, "h-h-h... hey Rosepaw?" she called out unsure if Rosepaw was still asleep or just still waking up.

"W-w...would you like to go training on some h-h-hunting?" she asked.

she sighed wishing she could talk without the stutter but that was just how it was.

Inside the burrow for the apprentices in bad weather, Rosepaw was curled up sleeping tail over nose. She rolled over with a yawn, smiling when her eyes found her mentor poking her head in at the entrance, Batsong's warm, soft stutter bringing her out of sleepiness. "Hey Batsong!" she whispered.

She got quietly to her paws and met Batsong outside, hastily rubbing her paws over her eyes to clear the sleep away. "Yes, please!" She was so excited that her friend was now her mentor. She brushed lightly against Batsong's side when she sighed, looking up with a warm caring gaze. Rosepaw thought Batsong was brave to persist in finishing her sentences, and cared about hearing what her friend has to say.

Batsong grins with more confidence as Rosepaw brushed against her.

A flicker of mischief and mystery flashes in her eyes as she nods at her answer and leads her out of camp out into Windclan territory. She was so happy to have Rosepaw as her apprentice and wanted their first hunting trip to go smoothly.

She leads her to the top of a hill on the moor that was nearby. There was a steady breeze blowing but that was good for hunting it carried the smells of prey further. She stopped besides her new apprentice grinning.

"Now th-tt...then... First step is to s-ss...sm...smell for anything around." she instructed.

"Remember, to also keep aware of predators... w-w-we hunt out in the open m-m-mostly so there is less places for p-prey to hide but that means also l-l..less places for you to hide too. so k-kkeep aware of your s-ss..s.surroundings she explained with her signature stutter.

She flicked her tail upward
"and remember, attacks can c-c-c...come from above too... but im sure you know that" she added on quietly giving her a little grin and wink and a playful nudge on the shoulder.

"Now smell around and see if you c-c...can smell any food" she told her apprentice Rosepaw.

There was a strong scent of rabbit on the steady breeze and she was sure her apprentice would pick that up but she was curious if she could smell anything else as well.

"Once you smell s-ss-something, you will have to stalk it" she explained.

She demonstrated the hunters stalk, keeping low as possible to the ground keeping her tail low and unmoving and keeping her ears alert and perked up.

"Then... you p.pp....pounce when you get as close as you c-c-can. Sometimes a chase is needed as well ... b-b-be careful these rabbits and h-hares can be pretty fast

She looked back at Rosepaw grinning. "Give it a practice" she encouraged.

Rosepaw's tufted ears tilted in curiosity and excitement at the flash of mystery and mischief in Batsong's eyes. The two cats stopped at the top of a hill, the moor stretching below, the breeze blowing toward and over them, carrying the scents of prey and ruffling their fur. Rosepaw's nose twitched at her mentor's instruction, then her eyes quickly widened and darted searchingly across the moor for predators. Rosepaw's eyes followed the flick of Batsong's black tail upwards with a tiny flinch, but relaxed and grinned back at Batsong's gentle playful reminder of their secret.

She scented the air. "Rabbit!" Rosepaw meowed excitedly at the obvious scent. "...oh, hare too!" The scents were similar, but she knew hares were bigger. She sniffed again, warm yellow-orange eyes scrunched up in concentration. "Maybe a bird?"

Rosepaw half lowered her body to the frozen earth, wispy tail absently waving high in anticipation. She did her best to copy Batsong, concentrating on keeping low and stilling her tail. The tip kept flicking rebelliously, and Rosepaw turned to shoot out a paw and pin it still before Batsong looked back at her.

At Batsong's encouraging meow, Rosekit leapt fluidly to her paws. Her ears swivelled, eyes darting, as she scented the breeze. She wanted to catch a hare, because that would provide the most food, but it took her a long moment to locate one. Hares were intelligent – and elegant, she realised, when she finally saw it. Sitting up on its long hind legs, nose twitching as it sniffed the breeze like Rosepaw was, big ears alert.

Rosepaw crept forward, holding her breath as she drew closer and closer. The wind was in the little apprentice's favour, but not much else. Rosepaw quickly leapt forward in a sprint. The hare's ears swivelled toward her, poised to run. But it wasn't Rosepaw it was running from. 

A lithe brown and white flash slithered viciously from behind Rosepaw, latching onto her back leg. "BATSONG HELP!" yelped the small apprentice, "A furry snake got me!" Rosepaw spun and snapped at it with sharp little fangs, striking again with natural quickness, but the teeth of the furry snake only dug deeper into her leg. Rosepaw cried out fearfully, nothing had ever hurt her like this.

Rosepaw tried to catch a hare [-7 SP] and triggered a predator!

Batsong nodded and grinned as she watched her apprentice sneak towards the hare, she was doing great! She was so focused on watching Rosepaw's technique and form that she did not notice the evil weasel sneaking up behind her until it was far too late.

right before the attack Batsong saw it but she was too late to say anything at all before the weasel chomped down on Rosepaws leg. Hearing the apprentices cries sent chills down her spine, her friend was in pain and it had been Batsong's responsibilty to keep her safe she felt aweful and sick to her stomach.

She did her best to push these thoughs aside as she let out a deep growl from her throat, this fur snake would pay for that dearly.

She charged to Rosepaw's aid. She bit down as hard as she could on the weasel's shoulder.

Then before the weasel could react to anything she lashed out with both her front paws claws raking down the entire length of the agressor.

Batsong used Snap! Batsong used Swift Strike! totaling 12 dmg and 17 sp

The weasel fell unconscious to the ground for a solid bit before it slithered quickly away back to whatever lair it came from, it was in no position to keep fighting.

"A..are you okay?" she asked her apprentice nervously.

Batsong rushed to Rosepaw's side sniffing at her nervously, her leg had a bite in it. Although Batsong was no med cat, the wound luckily did not look all that bad. She was a little relived at this. She quickly licked at the wound instinctively wanting to keep it clean from any infections or such.

Luckily the wound didnt look terrible at least, even if it did sting bad.
"I want you to know that was r-r..really brave of you, good job fighting back and keeping your cool." she praised her. She offered her a paw up and kept a very close eye on the injured leg.

In a moment Batsong was by her side, growling and lashing out at the furry snake, and it fell away from Rosepaw unconscious before slithering off. "I think, I'm okay," mewed Rosepaw shakily. Her leg stung, but Batsong was soon taking care of that, sniffing at the wound and licking the small gashes clean. Rosepaw blinked away tears she hadn't noticed form in her eyes and nuzzled a little into Batsong's fur to hide it. Rosepaw accepted the paw up, warm eyes blinking at the praise. "Thank you, Batsong." She was still shaking lightly. But, "Can I try again?" she meowed.

Batsong gave a slight grin as the Rosepaw nuzzled into her she rested her head on Rosepaw's for a moment and wrapped her wail around her apprentice purring quietly.

As Rosepaw got up she looked to be alright and this relived Batsong immensely. "You are s-s-s...so welcome and yes you can t-t...try again!" she meowed her answer back quietly.

"I'm sorry that h-h-happened to you, I w-w-was not planning on you getting fighting practice quite like t-t-that but I guess real world practice never hurts... and you handled it like a ch-c-..champ!" she stuttered meowing.

She noticed her apprentice still shaking slightly, "Catch your breath first, its okay to take a break... then yes you c-c...can go again"

Rosepaw was comforted by Batsong's praise, quiet purr, and warm cuddle. She let a grin part her maw, "It's okay! I want to be a strong warrior!" Rosepaw quietly caught her breath until she felt steadier, and lowered herself back into a hunting crouch, checking with Batsong she was doing it right, "like this?"

A little way across the icy moor, a rabbit sniffed despondently at the snowy ground. It was pitifully skinny, but Rosepaw had never known prey any different. Her clanmates were bone-thin and the hollow feeling and hunger pains were familiar even to an apprentice just out of the nursery.

The moor was so big, a wide snowy expanse in every direction and the clear blue sky overhead. Rosepaw's eyes became big and dark, and she took a deep breath, trying to expand her awareness to her surroundings even while she stalked forward, getting as close as she could with her nearly learned form in the leaf-bare barren moor.

As the rabbit leapt into motion, so did Rosepaw, a light ginger wisp streaking across the snow. She just managed to grasp the fleeing rabbit in her paws when an angry hiss startled her. The rabbit wriggled free of her grasp and disappeared into a tunnel.

The goose charged Rosepaw, neck out-stretched and beak parted, hissing defensively, wings wide to shield a nest. Instinctively Rosepaw lashed out with her front paws. She panted, "B...BATSONG! ...Sc... scary bird!"

Batsong purred as she saw Rosepaw's grin and happy attitude and willingness to try again "T-t...that's the spirit!" she said encouragingly.

She watched her apprentice crouching along and gave her a nod when she asked if she was doing it correctly. It looked great! Rosepaw was a natural!

Right before she was able to catch the rabbit however, Batsong saw the goose charging at her as she was watching more carefully for danger after the first incednt.

ROSEPAW!!! LOOK OUT! she squealed her heart dropping. ... But the warning was too late as the goose smacked into Rosepaw.

Batsong growled in frustration and anger, she felt awful that she had let this happen to Rosepaw again in the same hunting trip.

She charged at the goose claws out. She struck at it as fast as she could and bit at it as well.

Batsong's squeal of warning had hit Rosepaw's ears a split second too late and she had been knocked sprawling. Her mentor came to her rescue once again, striking rapidly with teeth and claws.

Batsong was the most fierce warrior ever! Rosepaw's warm eyes were starry as she tried to shake off the dizziness.

The goose smacked out its wings to protect against another attack from the angry warrior, cuffing Rosepaw as she was struggling to her paws and knocking her down again.

Rosepaw tried to claw the goose's wing as it swung at her, but missed as she lost her balance.

With her cheek against the frozen earth, Rosepaw saw the nest shielded behind the goose's wings. "Wait, it's protecting a nest!" she mewed to Batsong, eyes widened with understanding. "If we back off..." she trailed off, breathless.
