Three shadows had padded out of the hollow earlier that night. Two returned, a small limp body held by Burningwing’s jaws, Cicadapaw at his side.

Shypaw’s soft white fur was torn and stained with the tang of blood.  She was small even for a new apprentice, easily held up by the scruff. Scratches scored her sides and blood welled at her throat. She didn’t seem to be breathing, but her heart beat slow and faint.

Murkystar sat waiting in the middle of camp, her eyes fixated on the entrance to camp. Her apprentice had gone out with Burningwing and Cicadapaw, and she had been a worried mess since. Finally, two figures appeared from the shadows, and she froze. Two? There should have been three. Her heart dropped into her belly as she noticed a third figure hanging limply from the jaws of the warrior. Fear and anger spurred her forward, nosing at Shypaw's limp frame. She had to get to the medicine den, she had to get there now. "Frostgaze, come get Shypaw. Get her taken care of. You two." She fixed the two toms with cold, angry eyes. "Explain. Now."

Cicadapaw walked alongside his mentor, trying to ignore the limp figure being carried beside him. He knew Shypaw being hurt was going to be a fuss, but there wasn't any way around it. Leaving her would only get them in more trouble, so he would just have to brave out the wrath he would face once home.

Yet, when they walked into camp and were immediately met with Murkystar's anger, his words got stuck in his throat. He glanced up to Burningwing, attempting to gather courage for himself before he forced himself to speak. "We were hunting. We split up to cover more ground, still in range to hear each other, but an owl must have caught Shy's- Shypaw's coat. She didn't make any noise, we didn't know. By time the blood scent came to us..." Cicadapaw stopped there, the state of the apprentice was enough to finish the story for him. He told no lies, there was no reason for him to get in trouble besides perhaps for negligence. Murkystar would have wanted them to stick closer together and kit-sit a cat who didn't even belong there.

She was furious. Rage flared in her expression as she looked to Cicadapaw, a low growl rumbling in her chest as she turned to a nearby warrior. "Take Shypaw to the medicine den immediately. Basilbloom will take care of things from there. As for you..." Sharp eyes aimed back to Cicadapaw and his mentor. "This is not the first time that an apprentice has returned to camp grievously injured while under your care. Your negligence and lack of awareness is what has caused these issues. You are sentenced to remain in camp for the foreseeable future, until I decide what to do with you. If I were to make a decision now, you both would be exiled, but I'm also furious because my apprentice, that I entrusted to your care, is barely clinging to life. Go. Now. I need to check on Shypaw." She dismissed the two toms with an angry flick of her tail, leaving them as she dashed towards the medicine den.
