Hunting Training [for Oryx]

Shrikestorm moved past the other sleeping apprentices to prod Buzzardpaw. "Buzzardpaw, let's go hunting." It was his first time taking an apprentice out hunting as deputy, and he was a bit excited about it. It didn't change anything about how he hunted, but there was just an extra spring in his step.

The tom awoke with a little bit of a jolt, finding his mentor standing over him, suggesting a hunting trip. The cold nipped at his ears and the tip of his tail as he slowly uncurled, and he shivered involuntarily, wishing for a moment that his clan weren't so insistent on sleeping beneath the stars. Buzzardpaw stood and stretched, yawning hard and continuing to shiver for a little as he followed his mentor out of camp, noticing the excitement and joy in the tom's step- scarcely remembering the deputy ceremony that had taken place not long ago. "Oh um, congratulations on deputy," He offered as they trekked through the snow, keeping his head quite low to avoid freezing his whiskers off.

"Thank you," Shrikestorm mewed, still feeling the excitement - and some residual surprise - at being named the deputy. He barely even felt the sting of the cold weather. The snow was just another way to silence their steps. They stood out in the territory, a light wind making it even colder. "Can you smell any prey?" he asked his apprentice.

While his mentor was unbothered by the cold weather, the apprentice was shivering lightly, wishing his fur was thicker to block out the encroaching bone-deep chill, or that the weak sun would shine just a little stronger and give him the warmth he was desperate for. A gentle breeze was enough to make his teeth chatter, and he lifted his nose to the sky, attempting to discern anything from the chill that threatened to freeze his nose. The smell of a rabbit drifted under, and he looked around, hopeful that he'd be able to see something, eyes narrowed as he gazed around the moorland around.

Spotting something moving, he took off, ignoring any instruction from his mentor as now he was more curious about what may be there, versus really trying to catch anything.

It was too late to back off as he realised the white patch above the snow was that of a weasel's chest, and instead committed to his movements, throwing himself at the weasel with claws unsheathed.

Buzzardpaw is attempting to catch a Rabbit, costing 7 stamina. He instead found a weasel, and used Front Paw Strike, dealing 6 damage and using 7 stamina.

Beady black eyes surveyed the snow, hunger driving it further into territory marred by the stench of cats. It continued to slink along the ground, rising above the snow on it's back legs to get a better look of the landscape, eyes not truly taking in the movement of a light-furred cat, one that threw itself at the weasel with no hesitance. Blood dribbled from where the cat's claws had met their mark, and it bit back, attaching itself to the apprentice's forepaw and staying, blood dripping from his leg onto the snow beneath and the weasel's pelt.

The Weasel used Gripping Bite, dealing 7 damage and using 15 stamina. Attached for two turns.

Shrikestorm's eyes widened in alarm as he saw Buzzardpaw head right for a weasel. In the snow, it looked closer to a piece of prey than a threat, but that's exactly what it was: a threat. He ran as fast as he could throw the snow, kicking up flakes as he barreled towards the weasel. He snapped at the creature, digging down into its fur with his teeth.
