Aoife carefully made her journey down the Thunderpath, staying in the ditch most of the way. She was heading for the forested territories, and didn't want to be needlessly attacked before she made it. Her new placement had taken some getting used to, especially with so many of her siblings spending more and more time away from camp. It put her on edge, but at least thanks to her they would always have a camp to return to. She might've been unlucky to end up with one of the most boring jobs, but that didn't mean there wasn't work to do. As expected, Aphrodite could've been doing more to help out, but her and Achlys were keeping it together.

Even though the hunters were in charge of the bulk of collecting prey, Aoife still wanted to feel like she was doing more. As she'd left, she 'd made some passing comment about going to collect materials, but there was no chance in from here to the sun-drown place that she would drag branches all this way. She wanted to explore a bit more and get a better feel of the surrounding clans, even if the gathering had been a disaster.

And if she got close enough into the territory, she could maybe sneak a glimpse at the Thunderclan camp, reinforced and stable for many, many seasons, not falling into disrepair after moons of abandonment like her own. And if she got caught, it would be fighting practice.

She crossed the scent markers with no sign of trouble, still wary of any noise that would alert her presence to prey or warriors. Everyone was struggling for prey at the moment, but Aoife managed to track down a squirrel, hiding at the edge of the territory. Without hesitation, she began to creep towards it.

However, just as she neared enough to pounce, the snap of a twig made her head shoot up. The squirrel, who had heard it as well, instantly darted away. Confused, Aoife checked beneath her paws, but there was only snow and leaf mulch. Which meant she had company.

Stoatfur had gone out alone, to get some space, to breath. It felt stifling to sit in camp, as if his own thoughts of impending doom seemed to echo off the walls of home. Worse still, Appledapple was there. She was a constant remind of his own failures, the many things that were wrong with the deputy, and the guilt that budded up deep inside. There was solace in the emptiness of the territory. His stomach growled softly and he growled back. Such complaints did nothing in this sparse and barren season. What little prey they had went to the cats who needed it, not a self-righteous deputy with little mass to sustain.

Absentmindedly, he raised his nose to scent the air. Fur bristled along his spine, there was something off, something unfamiliar. Stoatfur padded forward to catch the sight of a cat he did not recognize, the outline of a pelt. Worse yet was the realization that this cat had been after the squirrel that darted off as he moved closer. Although his movements were slow, the tom's paws buzzed with adrenaline - he was prepared to fight, or to chase this cat off their territory. Instead, he rounded to find her eyes, not having to force too hard to put steel into his own gaze, "I don't suppose you're a lost little kittypet with a pelt like that, hm? So tell me then, rogue, what makes you think this is free hunting grounds? I don't recall opening the borders in the middle of leafbare."

When the unfamiliar cat rounded on her, Aoife showed no sign of fear, nor backing down easily. However, she was too smart to start the fight - if she was attacked, she would be quick to defend herself, but it would be better to escape unscathed. No point in wasting her energy on a meaningless fight. Drawing herself up to full height, she became wary of how young she looked, and age where, in the clans, she would not have a full rank. The tom before her was small, but seemingly strong and had much more experience and age than her.

She ignored the comment about her pelt, and instead answered the latter questions. "Well then maybe you should be better at keeping them closed. There is prey here I would have caught if it weren't for you. One piece of prey your warriors would even notice gone, since they never could've caught it in the first place." She shot back. Maybe this wasn't the best way to escape unscathed, but she needed to take her anger out on something.
