Testing the Limits

Klaus entered the Hidden Outcropping with a rabbit hanging from his jaws. Snow covered the ground, blanketing everything in white. Even the rabbit in his mouth was as white as the snow. The morning light had spilled across the Hidden Outcropping, giving the winter landscape a soft dusting of gold. He'd managed to snatch the rabbit from the edge of Windclan territory... and it was only after he set the rabbit down that he realized something about the Hidden Outcropping was... off. Shadowclan scent reeked in this area. The musky, stagnant stench with a hint of old carrion clung to this place like a thick mucus. Had Shadowclan expanded their borders? When did this happen?

The white and gold rogue bent his head to take a chunk out of the rabbit and swallowed it almost greedily. It was early morning... but he was curious to see if any Shadowclan cats would come by. This was news that he certainly wanted to hear about... if they didn't come flying at him with claws first. They might though... seeing as he was eating a rabbit on their territory. If they used their noses though, they would be able to smell that the rabbit came from the moor, not the swamp. He wouldn't put it passed Shadowclan cats to be impulsive and stupid, however. If it was that big of a deal, Klaus could always catch another rabbit. It wasn't worth fighting a Shadowclan patrol over.

'Invasion Dice' :

With the noticeable lack of kits to look after, Amberdawn was no longer content simply remaining in camp. After all, she was only able to do so when she was kept busy with the younger generation. So with nothing better to do, she decided she may as well go for a walk. Maybe even do some hunting. She did train as a warrior before becoming a queen, so it wasn't like she didn't know how. And the Clan would thank her for the extra prey.

It was not long until the queen scented a rabbit. She figured she would be able to stalk it, although that was admittedly a harder piece of prey, and eventually made her way forward. It was not until she was close that she realized the prey she was following was already dead, and another cat was eating it. Her fur bushed out as she made her way to confront the rogue, an attempt to make herself look larger, more fierce. But she was alone, and had not fought a cat in moons. And no cat could mistake the fear scent surrounding the patched molly.

"What are you doing here? This is ShadowClan territory, and you are trespassing."

Her voice shook more than she intended it to, but there was nothing that could be done to help that. She could only hope she spoke loud enough for a passing patrol to have heard her. This was one of the more watched areas after WindClan had tried to take over, after all, maybe she would get lucky.

Or maybe she should learn not to rely on luck.

Klaus heard the molly before he spotted her. He lifted his head from the rabbit, but only enough to keep himself ready to handle conflict. His throat remained casually guarded by his lowered chin. She appeared and immediately went for a bluff that... for lack of a better term... exploded in her face and was dead on arrival. Fear scent wafted toward Klaus with a slight breeze. The white and gold tom usually inhaled that scent deeper than even he would for flowers or fresh-kill... but he wasn't interested in terror tactics today. At least... not for now.

"Oh, I'm not dangerous, miss." He spoke softly, though his voice was confident and didn't shake like hers. His body language was relaxed with his tail out behind him rather than curled and fluffed like the molly's.

"And yes, sorry... I used to come here to hunt all of the time and it wasn't claimed before. Is Shadowclan expanding for some reason? I'd like to know more, for future reference." He kicked the rabbit over to the molly with one fluid motion. "I caught this as it left Windclan territory. You can still smell the moor on it. I retreated here to eat it because this had been neutral ground until recently." If Klaus was more skilled in one thing other than fighting, it was acting. Or was it singing? No... probably acting. He hadn't sang in quite some time now. There was little to sing about these days.

He made a mental note for himself to practice more. It was something he had enjoyed and it had been far too long since he had done anything simply for the sheer joy of it.
