Orangekit’s Apprentice Ceremony

Goldenfang took a deep breath of the crisp leaf-fall air. She then leapt atop the Tallrock, giving a boosting kick to heave herself all the way up, and looked over the camp. Another kit would begin their training today, and the deputy was eager to see how they would react to the news. “Let all cats old enough to run the moor gather under the Tallrock for a Clan meeting!”

Orangekit, who didn't know why she was being dragged into another boring clan meeting, sat down anyway.

Orangekit was fascinated by the pretty colors of the leaves in the far-off forest, and was often distracted staring into the distance. It was happening again. I wonder if I'll be able to go into the forest one day, battling someone. I'll be the best fighter ever! Excited, she bounced up and down for a heartbeat, shook her head and sat down again, trying to focus.

Goldenfang smiled when Orangekit appeared for the meeting. She appeared caught up in fantasy, and she reminded the deputy much of her littermate Dreampaw. Surely she’d love to be reunited with her siblings in the apprentices’ sleeping area. “Orangekit, step forward. You’ve reached the age of six moons and it is time for you to be apprenticed. From this day on, until you’ve earned your warrior name, you will be called Orangepaw. Your mentor will be Brookthistle.” The young warrior had been waiting for an apprentice, and Goldenfang was sure it was her time. “Your mentor is curious and constantly seeks knowledge. There is much to learn from her, and much for both of you to learn together.”
