Subject: Away From the Sun [Loudnose/Webshadow] Wed 20 Oct 2021 - 18:29
Mistyfalcon reluctantly uncurled himself from around Murkystrike, sparing one last glance at his mate as he slipped from the warrior's den. Dark eyes scanned the camp, and Mistyfalcon's ears flicked back slightly at the familiar sting of disappointment and anger at not seeing Batglow among his clanmates. With a huff, the warrior tried to ignore it. Dwelling on it wasn't doing anyone any favors, nor would it help get their clanmate back. Much as it irked him, there were still other things that needed to be done.
Like stocking the fresh-kill pile. His gaze swept over camp again, picking out Loudnose and Webshadow. "You two up for some hunting?" He asked, padding over.

Webshadow had been hovering not too far from Loudnose, shoulders hunched and tail wound tightly around his forelegs. He felt like it was freezing... was leaf-fall supposed to be this cold? He dreaded leaf-bare, then, if he was already shivering. He missed the gentle warmth of new-leaf. At least now he could wander the territory again, keep his muscles warm. Just as that thought struck him and he was about to find his way to his paws, Mistyfalcon appeared, and Webshadow blinked a few times before looking towards the younger warrior between them. "Oh, sure. Hunting would be– nice. Better than sitting here... shivering..." The tabby's voice trailed into an indistinct murmur as he spoke, but he was already standing and looking towards Mistyfalcon with eager expectancy.

Loudnose laid there stretched out, exposing himself to the last bits of warmth. Leaf-fall came too quickly, the next time new-leaf or green-leaf arrives he'll make sure to enjoy every bit of it. The tabby was content, lazily watching the camp. He sat up, seeing Mistyfalcon heading towards him. "Yes of course I would love to!" he purred while stretching, "Hunting is fun, this will be aswell."

"Moving will warm you up." He mewed over his shoulder at Webshadow. With thicker fur, Mistyfalcon wasn't so affected by the cold yet, but Webshadow was right, hunting was better than shivering in camp. Loudnose was as enthusiastic as ever to go hunting, and Mistyfalcon turned, leading the way out of camp. Sniffing for rogues had become almost reflexive at this point, but it seemed that they were holding to Vea's promise to leave Shadowclan be now that they had Batglow.
Mistyfalcon would have preferred fighting her band of brutes. The situation had left him with a sour taste in his mouth and an uneasy feeling of dread twisting his stomach, reminding him of when Tavora had held her little sham trial and taken Murkystrike. Both times he'd been too outnumbered to do a thing.
With an irritable flick of the tail, he scanned the sparse undergrowth for signs of prey. For the moment, Batglow was out of reach, but they would find him, sooner or later. Even if that meant another mousehunt. For now, though, there was a fresh-kill pile that needed to be stocked.
The soft pitter-patter of a mouse caught his attention, and Mistyfalcon dropped into a crouch, silently stalking towards it. The mouse remained unaware of the danger until his fangs pierced its' throat, and Mistyfalcon turned to bury it in silence before continuing to search for more prey.

With a quiet hum and Loudnose's enthusiastic agreement, Webshadow set off after Mistyfalcon, ducking through the thorn tunnel and easing into a lope. It was nice, to be able to go on patrol without looking over his shoulder every other step.
Still, even though he knew the rogues were gone, habit– and a healthy sense of fear –kept his ears pricked and his eyes wide and alert, looking through every bit of foliage and staring into distant shadows. A part of him half expected the whole band to flood the territory. Another part wondered if Batglow might have still been out there... somewhere. With a shrug, Webshadow lowered his head and hunched his shoulders to trot on.
In his scanning, the dark tabby caught sight of a lizard, and he quietly slipped away from the group to pursue it. Lowering into that familiar crouch, he crept forward, pouncing with claws outstretched. His spring was a second too late, though, and eager paws met empty air as the lizard darted away between the roots of a tree. Watching it go, Webshadow let out a sigh, returning to the patrol with a huff. "Well, good mouse, Mistyfalcon." He mewed softly before flicking his tail to Loudnose. Hopefully they'd catch more than just one mouse...

Loudnose padded alongside his father and clanmate, his head and tail held high as he searched in between the ferns, but finding nothing yet. He stretched his neck to look closer at a tree stump, which always felt good after a sunny nap. The tom joyfully watched a ladybug on the stump, making an invisible loop with its trail. He grinned, finding the dance cute. The tabby's attention was soon diverted to movement coming from the bush nearby. He quickly stuck his head in, chomping down on a shrew. Pulling his head back out he dug a hole for his catch, burying it before turning to walk next to Mistyfalcon. "I was wondering, have you seen any cool bugs recently? I saw a ladybug just now, do you like those? I hear they mean good luck. Do you beleive in luck?"

Webshadow missed his own catched, and Mistyfalcon glanced toward him at the comment on the mouse. "We'll catch more than this, the night's still young." He mewed. And Loudnose proved it, quickly catching a shrew.
"Good catch, Loudnose." He mewed. His son was proving to be a capable hunter... Mistyfalcon had expected nothing less. Loudnose's questions had him looking at Webshadow askance, silently wondering where Loudnose had gotten his personality from. Extroverted, whimsy... Definitely not Mistyfalcon, that was for sure. Luck? He glanced towards the brown tabby and shrugged. "Luck and coincidence are fickle things. Actions and consequences are not. I think we make our own luck."

Webshadow hummed at Mistyfalcon's words, nodding slow in agreement as Loudnose returned to them with a catch of his own. He was ready to turn his attention away, start trotting off to find a new piece of prey to stalk when the younger warrior started talking. Tail-tip twitching, he returned Mistyfalcon's look with a mild snort.
"I've never thought about it much," he answered mildly, rolling his shoulders. "I don't see why not, though. You saw the bug, then you caught the shrew. I suppose you could call that luck. Or... chance." Webshadow shrugged and dropped his head. "It is a nice thought, to think you might be particularly lucky. I'd feel bad for whoever the lucky cats are." His whiskers twitched as the breeze shifted, and with a nod to signal he'd finished speaking he padded off to follow the scent of a toad. It came into view soon enough, and lowering himself into a crouch, Webshadow drew himself forward.
He'd been confident in this one, the toad laying still as stone as the warrior made his approach, but the little thing had the bright idea to hop into a particularly deep patch of mud right as he pounced. Snorting, Webshadow shook the mud off his paws and made his way back to the group. "Suppose I'm one of those unlucky few, hm?"
