Mistlekit's Apprentice Ceremony

"ShadowClan! Please gather in the shadow of Jaggedrock!" Murkystrike's voice rang out over the camp, her figure standing out against the light of the slowly rising sun. It was time for a new apprentice to be named, and she had just mentor in mind for the playful little she-cat. She waited patiently for the clan to gather, keeping an eye out for the subject of today's ceremony.

Mistlekit had grown quite a lot since her last (and very much only) venture out of camp. However, she still wasn't as eager as she had once been to see the world outside. Maybe now that she was bigger, the trees wouldn't all feel like they were towering over her, and if she hissed meanly enough at the shadows they would disappear. All the same, she was excited at least to become an apprentice. And only just a little bit scared.

Mistlekit joined the gathering crowd, and Murkystrike proceeded with the ceremony. "ShadowClan, I've gathered you here today to witness the naming of one of our kits as an apprentice. Mistlekit, please step forward." Murkystrike mewed, pausing to allow the she-cat to do so. "Mistlekit, you have reached the age of six moons and are ready to become an apprentice. From this day forward, until you have earned your warrior name, you will be known as Mistlepaw. Ravenwing will be your mentor. I trust that she will guide your paws carefully and steadily through your training." She mewed before jumping down from Jaggedrock, ending the ceremony.

Mistlepaw turned back to the gathered crowd, trying to work out which one was Ravenwing. Soon enough, the black she-cat had joined her beneath Jaggedrock. Her mentor reminded the brand new apprentice a little of the shadows in the forest, which came as a sort of comfort, because surely if anything could scare them away it was a warrior who could pretend to be one. With wide eyes, she reached up to touch noses with the other cat, because that was what she had seen the other apprentices do. "Are you good at fighting shadows?" she asked with a still kit-like wonder, eager to know the answer; maybe she could teach her. Now she thought about it more, Mistlepaw was sure she had seen Ravenwing talking to Mistyfalcon before and, since the grey tom seemed to be the closest thing the apprentice had to family, it made her decide that her mentor was now family as well.
