Jasminepaw's Warrior Ceremony

The deputy had his work cut out for him lately, having to do warrior ceremonies, apprentice ceremonies and moonstone journeys. None of the strain or stress would show on his face or in his stride in public however. He was going to lead his clan, carry them if he must. And he'd do it alone any day and at anytime. "Let all cats old enough to climb a tree gather beneath the Tallbranch for a clan meeting!" He called out, waiting for Jasminepaw to make an appearance.

Day and night, Jasminepaw's head swam with thoughts of leaving. She didn't fit in. She didn't fit in. She didn't fit in. She didn't belong here, and it had been made painfully obvious in these last moons. She was different, Jasminepaw was practically an outsider. All SkyClan knew how to do was fight— fight, kill, and be strong.

But Jasmine wasn't. She was not strong, she couldn't fight, and she never wanted to kill or even maim another cat. Yet everyone else had so fearlessly charged in, hadn't hesitated once. But where would she go? The little tabby didn't know the answer to that. Not yet. Sitting in the clearing, she looked up at the heavily scarred deputy, wondering how he found it so easy to attack other cats.

"We gather here today to welcome a new warrior into our ranks. Jasminepaw, come forward. I, Bloodstrike, deputy of SkyClan, call upon our warrior ancestors to look down on this apprentice. She has trained hard to learn the ways of your noble code, and I commend her to you as a warrior in her turn. Jasminepaw, do you promise to uphold the warrior code, and to protect and defend your clan, even at the cost of your life?" He suspected this would go off without a hitch. Jasminepaw, as far as he knew, was perfectly capable of being a Skyclan cat. Going through the motions, Bloodstrike waited for Jasminepaw's answer.

Well, this certainly had been.. Unexpected.
Stumbling forward, not sure of anything, she could barely hear Bloodstrike over the pounding of her heart. Her ears pinned flat against her head, and she breathing was labored. "I-I-" She whispered, her voice quivering.

What was she going to do? Going to say? Could she really make this promise..? She hadn't expected this to be her ceremony. Jasminepaw took a few breaths, trying to regain clarity, but she couldn't. Cats were probably whispering, and her brown and white patched fur puffed up. Oh, StarClan! This was mind numbing.
And then, clarity.
Suddenly, she knew. She couldn't do this.

"I.. I don't." She mumbled, barely loud enough for the tom to hear her. Tears prickling in her eyes, she spun around swiftly on her head, a hasty, "I'm sorry!" served as her only goodbye.

Like that, she was gone.
