An Interesting Way To Get To Know You Better:

"You see it there, Harrier? Stick close to me for now and don't throw yourself at it yet. Think before you act please. I don't want you getting hurt." Kestrelswoop instructed the apprentice sternly with a hushed voice, green gaze zeroed on the perched owl that they were both currently spying on within the dense brush. Harrierpaw had come to him the day before with the intent of talking him into finding something he could practice his fighting skills on. At first, the younger tom had eagerly suggested they find a badger or even a dog to go against but the warrior quickly shot those ideas down with haste. Yeah, no way. They wouldn't be able to finish either of them off and would probably be forced to retreat. It was best to either have more cats to fight beside or just someone who was much more experienced before encountering one of them. The brown and white tom suggested they look for a predatory bird of some kind. They were a bit easier to... test their moves on. Harrierpaw, had eventually begrudgingly agreed. He still wasn't sure why Harrier had gone to him for this and not his own mentor but he was more than happy to help train his apprentice's twin brother. Hopefully this outing wouldn't come back to bite him.

"On my word, I want you to join me in the battle but for now, stay here and let me get it's attention." he murmured to the fluffy tom as he slowly stepped out of their hiding spot. He took one last glance at the other then returned his attention back to the task. Just as he predicted, once the owl had spotted him, it gave a warning hoot then took off from it's perch and gained some height before circling back around and then diving for him, talons ready. It was enough time for him to prepare himself to face off against the feathered creature.

Kestrelswoop hissed when he felt the bird's talons slice at his back but he stood his ground. He didn't let it leave without dealing an attack of his own. He used his sharp claws to return some scratches and slices of his own. It gave a shriek before flying off then turning back once more, ready to swoop down again. It seemed to be fully locked onto him now. Harrierpaw should be safe to come and join him. "Harrier! Come and help me teach this owl a lesson." he called out to the apprentice somewhere behind him with a slight breathiness to his voice, eyes never leaving the predator's form and a tiny grin staring to form on his face.

It actually took Harrier by surprise when Kestrelswoop agreed to take him out to practice his battle moves on a more...dangerous target. He was still a bit bummed that they hadn't gone after a dog or a badger, he'd even have taken a fox, but he supposed that the two of them wouldn't be a good match up against those bigger foes, at least, for now. Anyway, he'd been surprised because he always thought the warrior would be somebody that was overbearing and dull to be around but day after day that passed by, his assessment of the leader's son was shifting into a more positive zone. He'd always been a bit curious of his twin's mentor ever since he met him during Starling's bold escape attempt when they were kits. Don't get him wrong. He was fine with having Mink's other son, Quaildock, as a mentor. That tom was much more exuberant and daring than Kestrel for sure but sometimes a bit too much of that and it can easily get on his nerves. Guess he was more comfortable with those that were a bit more similar to himself.

After impatiently waiting for the tabby warrior to finish up his warnings and instructions, Harrier anxiously awaited the owl noticing Kestrelswoop and for the battle to begin. He unsheathed his claws and eagerly prepared to jump in, claws ready to unleash a mighty fury upon their foe. He hoped it wouldn't end too quickly. He needed a lot of time to get some cool hits in.

As soon as he had gotten the warrior's signal, the apprentice smirked and crashed through the brush- with style of course -and before the owl could get another hit on the warrior, he managed to leap at the right time and bowl the predator away. With wide, excited eyes, he grinned at the older tom as he puffed out his chest at his great timing and smooth moves. He could see it getting back up and it's feathers puffing outward but he didn't care cause what he just did was great. However, he moved away and stood defensively a bit behind the warrior so it would still be going after Kestrel and not him.

He was pretty impressed with the apprentice's little stunt. He had to give it to him, the move he showed off was rather cool. "Good one, Harrierpaw!" he praised. He wondered if Quaildock showed him that or if Harrier improvised that on his own. The warrior returned the grin and gave the younger a reassuring nod. So far, they were a pretty solid team. Maybe next time he could take both Starling and Harrier. That would certainly be an... interesting thing to see.

He was relieved that Harrier had the sense to stay behind him before the owl decided the smaller of the two was a much easier meal. It could easily take off with the apprentice and that scared Kestrel. He was going to do his best to keep the bird's gaze on him and him only. He could tank quite a few hits from it so he wasn't really worried about himself.

He never took his eyes off it as it shot back into the sky and began another descend toward them both. He made sure to shove Harrierpaw even further back as he took another rough set of talons to his shoulders this time. He almost flinched but managed to keep his cool. It almost seemed like it had wanted to take him away. Luckily, he was too big for a quick grab. This is why he didn't want it to change it's target to the smaller cat. Gosh it sure hurt and who knows what it could've done to Harrier. He grunted quickly shook his thoughts away and snapped his jaws closed on whatever he could reach on the owl before it could take to the sky again and felt extremely satisfied when he heard it screech. Good. He turned back to look at the other tom and nodded at him. "Alright. You can finish it off. It's pretty weak now." he said with a lopsided grin.

He would never say it aloud but it felt good being praised like that by a warrior. It would've felt even better if it was Minkstar or even Thrushnose but he'll take what he can get. He wasn't an attention seeker like either Starlingpaw or Wasppaw but that didn't mean he would brush compliments away as if they were nothing.

The apprentice was secretly impressed with how well the older tom was taking the hits. He barely showed any signs that he was in any pain. Harrier felt a tad bad for him so he decided to help finish the battle, as the warrior had instructed him to.Their teamwork really did a number on the bird and it looked about ready to crumple. He wasted no time in striking the owl with harsh, unsheathed paws and before it could even have a chance to recover, slammed his paws down on it's head with force. It let out a pitiful sound before going down for good. Just to ensure that it had been effectively killed, he poked it multiple times with a claw. Once it showed no more signs of life, he turned and smirked at Kestrelswoop. It was over and done.

"That was easy wasn't it? Pretty cool way to show off some moves if I do say so myself." he said after a few moments of somewhat awkward silence. He wasn't too good at talking to others but he needed to break the silence before his fur shed off from how uncomfortable he'd become. It was also a sneaky way he could try and get to know his brother's mentor. He wanted to know how far Starling had gotten in his training and what things he'd learned. Harrier was a little competitive so getting information from his 'rival's' teacher was essential...and also a bit fun.

Kestrelswoop silently sighed in relief as Harrierpaw finished off the feathered menace. His back was aching due to all the harsh treatment it just endured. The warrior offered the tom a nod of approval as he walked toward him. The silence was a bit awkward but thankfully, the younger tom had decided to break it. "I agree. We make a good team. Took down the owl rather quickly. Good work." he replied, a smile slowly taking over his face. It was true. They made a pretty good team. With a bit more work, Harrier could potentially receive his warrior name soon. He stretched his limbs a bit before speaking again, "Any other reason why you wanted me to join you for this besides to practice some moves? Don't get me wrong. I was quite impressed. I just feel like you have another reason. If you don't then please excuse my nosiness. It's just how I am. Can't help but read more into situations." The warrior shrugged with a curious gleam in his eyes as he waited for Harrier's response.
