The waters of the creek were blessedly cool and refreshing as Birdsong lapped at them. Sunlight dappled her surroundings, filling the forest with aa warmth that was downright uncomfortable with her long tabby pelt. She'd buried a squirrel at the roots of a tree behind her, but truthfully Birdsong didn't feel much like hunting. Despite the warmth, it was a nice day out, the sky was clear aside from a few fluffy clouds. Given the chance, she'd slipped away from camp with a sigh, happy to leave the festering tension behind as she'd made her way into the forest.
The deputy had taken a mate from Shadowclan, and had brought her and their kits into Skyclan. Even the most oblivious warrior was able to pick up on the tension surrounding that. The medicine cat had almost been approachable before that had happened, but now she seemed more aggravated than ever. Shadepaw was still an apprentice, and Birdsong wished that her sister would be made a warrior sooner rather than later, she missed spending time with her. As it was now, her training left little time for the two to really talk. Dad had retired to the elder's den, and Birdsong couldn't quite wrap her head around it. He'd certainly been tired recently, but it felt strange to think of her father as an elder who would no longer take her and Shadepaw hunting.
At least she had Tornshadow to talk to, and Ashstorm. Though the former was hardly even welcome in the clan still, despite proving herself repeatedly. Birdsong had to wonder if the older warriors would ever change, sometimes it felt like they wouldn't. Maybe they were just stuck in their ways, but it still bothered her to see her cousin treated like dirt for things that weren't her fault.
Birdsong gave her head a quick shake in an attempt to clear it before following the creek. Dwelling on things wouldn't change them, she knew, but that logic didn't exactly stop her mind from wandering back to those thoughts anyways. At least out here she could do that in peace and quiet.
