A Badger, But Not a Badger, You Know? [closed for JJ]

Ravenclaw was doing her thing, checking the borders and making sure there wasn't any funny business going on. You could never know when it came to the other clans, or the cats that lived outside of their established order. Border checks might be a drag to some, but Ravenclaw didn't mind. While she didn't like the scents of the other clans drifting onto their territory, they were thankfully light in comparison to SkyClan's own. Plus, she was secretly always hoping a non-SkyClan cat would try and cross the border so she could get into a fight and beat them up. It had been moon now since she helped take down the Asylum, but her paws were itching for battle again. Anyone foolish enough to cross her would regret it.

The mid-day heat was miserable to Badgermask, so whenever possible, she went out early, before the sun was really up, to hunt. Lately, she'd been going out mostly alone, and with ThunderClan's current state, that probably wouldn't change any time soon. Her grandfather, she thought, was doing a great job at leadership, but... they just kept losing warriors. Grumpily, the long-furred, dappled she-cat padded through the trees, sort-of hunting, but mostly just brooding. She was worried. She was upset. And she really, really missed her father. The Asylum had taken Pinefrost from her, and from ThunderClan, and she would never forgive them, or the cats that had defected from them. She knew that some of those cats still lived within the clans. Even within ThunderClan, they had the tom, Stag. How Minkstream could allow one of those heathens to remain within camp was beyond Badgermask... but she wasn't the leader. Her place, right now, was to sit back and wait for the young tom to mess up - then, she could take action. But for now...

A mouse dashed across the path a few fox-lengths ahead of her, and instinct took over before she even realized what was going on. The she-cat charged after it, ignoring the ThunderClan-SkyClan border as her paws passed over it, and as she gained on the mouse... it made a mad dash for the roots of a tree. "No you don't!" she snarled, pressing forward to catch it, but as her paw outstretched, something collided with it, and it took Badgermask a moment to register what was happening as something coiled around her foreleg.

Badgermask was unsuccessful. Snake used Gripping Bite, dealing 10 damage to Badgermask and costing 30 stamina.

Well hey, it looked like someone wanted to regret their day! Ravenclaw was practically licking her chops, excited to finally get the rust off and battle this foolish... She sniffed the air to check. ThunderClan cat, that's right. She began to head over, muscles tensing as she made a great display of herself preparing to teach this cat a lesson in border attention... And then, of course, a third party decided to make itself known.

A snake, huh? She almost laughed out loud. It would be due justice to let this border-crossing warrior deal with the snake on her own. Alas, she couldn't do that. As much as she wanted to let that happen, it was a dangerous creature on her territory. She couldn't let it roam around and potentially hurt other SkyClan cats. Plus, a dead body on their territory would lead to all sorts of questions they didn't need when they were just getting themselves back together as a clan. So she rushed to attack, but regretfully not at the ThunderClan warrior.

Careful to avoid the snake at first, she scrambled up the nearest tree, balancing on the lowest branch. Then she struck, dropping down and digging her claws deep into the snake's slimy body. "You're lucky you ran into this snake instead of me, blackbreath," Ravenclaw hissed, always finding time to insult other clan members. It was a sterling trait of hers.

Out of nowhere, from the sky dropped another cat. Badgermask tensed, preparing for a battle but the other she-cat went after the snake, not her, and the thing fell limp around her paws as claws sliced through its thin body. There was a brief moment where Badgermask considered thanking the intruder, but once Ravenclaw opened her mouth, that urge quickly dissipated. A scowl darkened her already angry visage, and the ThunderClanner felt her claws slide out instinctively just a split second before she lunged at the other she-cat. "I'll show you blackbreath, you tree-climbing squirrelbrain," Badgermask snarled, raking her claws down Ravenclaw's shoulder.

Maybe Ravenclaw was too full of herself, believing just her showing up would cause the Thunderclanner to scatter. That was not what happened. In fact, she was attacked. "Yowch!" she yowled, ducking away from the rival cat, her shoulder stinging. "You'll pay for that!" she spat, diving back at the ThunderClan cat and getting on her hind legs to slash wildly at her. What was good for the goose and all that. Not that they saw many geese, but...

Badgermask snarled as the other she-cat reared up, slashing, Badgermask turned her shoulder so that it got the brunt of it rather than her face, and hisses in pain as claws sliced through flesh. "Don't you have a tree to climb or something?" she snapped, returning the blows with some of her own.
