Subject: Expectations [OPEN HUNTING] Mon 24 May 2021 - 14:09
Swiftspirit bounded across the open moors cheerfully, sparing a quick glance in the direction of the rest of her patrol before turning her attention forward. The late newleaf air was warm, but a breeze made the grass rustle and the sky was clear. It was a good day for hunting, so that's what Swiftspirit intended on doing.
It didn't take long for the newly-named warrior to catch sight of a brown form moving in the grass, and she inhaled deeply, jaws parting slightly. Hare. Swiftspirit moved so that she was behind the plump creature, then darted forward with unsheathed claws. The hare noticed her presence too late, and Swiftspirit lunged forward, claws burying themselves in the hare's haunches. She leaned forward, fangs flashing for the hare's throat, and then turned to bury it, quickly rejoining the rest of the patrol.

It had felt like a while since Hayglow had gone hunting - at least without having to fret over Muddyleap. With her son's condition being what it was, she had taken it upon herself to often be his companion when he wanted to leave the camp - but this time, he had been assigned to a different patrol...Which meant that she was free to join Swiftspirit and the others in hunting. Her eyes were fixed on a quail, blissfully unaware of the she-cat as she lurked closer and closer. Finally, only a fox-length or two away, she sprung from her hiding place and raced toward the quail - leaping in an effort to catch it before it managed to take flight. To her disappointed, her claws only managed to catch a few tail-feathers as it flew out of reach, leaving her to watch it disappear from view as she panted for breath. ...Ah well, she could try again at least. She gave her head a shake and glanced around, tasting the air for something new to hunt.
Hayglow attempted to catch a quail and was unsuccessful. Cost 3 SP.
Ever the spirited tom, Silverpaw had been more than excited to be joining in a hunting patrol. It was more chances to improve on his abilities and more time to spend with his clanmates. He could even use the patrol to learn new techniques. It would probably be an overall good time, at least to him. Hopefully the others would think the same way.
Once the group split and headed off to stalk prey, the gray-furred apprentice did so as well but not before taking a bit of time to watch the other members. Swiftspirit caught a hare with seemingly no issue. Hayglow, on the other paw, was unsuccessful with a quail. Birds were hard. He's tried a few times to catch one but he never could. If a warrior as good as Hayglow had trouble with them sometimes, it showed that he shouldn't feel too insecure about his failed attempts. For now, he'd try and catch the first critter he'd come across, even if it was a bird.
It didn't take long for the apprentice to spot a nicely plump rabbit. Harnessing all that he's learned thus far, the young tom carefully slinked up to the creature, careful of where he was in relation of where the breeze was blowing and as soon as he was at a safe distance, he pounced.
As probably expected, Silverpaw successfully caught the creature and swiftly killed it with a bite to the neck. He grinned down at his catch and quickly buried it. Awesome! He loved hunting so much. He nodded to himself before walking away, senses alert in search of something else to snatch.

Hayglow attempted to catch a bird, and Swiftspirit gave the she-cat a sympathetic flick of an ear. Birds were hard to catch out here on the moors, and they weren't Windclan's normal prey either. Missing that catch didn't equate to the warrior being an unskilled hunter at all.
"Nice catch, Silverpaw!" Swiftspirit mewed. She might have said more, but the form of another rabbit caught her eye, and Swiftspirit fell silent as she bounded towards it. She caught up to and dispatched the prey quickly, dropping it where she'd left her previous catch before returning to searching for more.
