Beechface pushed her way out of the medicine den, a low growl of irritation escaping her as her tail twitched back and forth. Bloodstrike had already left camp, it seemed, and she'd lecture him later. Maybe. Her words seemed to fall on deaf ears, so there was little point. Smokefeather sat outside the elder's den, looking particularly bitter, not that Beechface could blame her. She debated padding over, but she simply wasn't in the mood to hear it. There was no talking sense with either of her parents, and Beechface wasn't going to bother any more than strictly necessary. Let them deal with each other, or avoid each other, as they pleased.
The medicine cat stalked out of camp, pawsteps turning in the direction of the great ridge. Newleaf was in full swing, and that meant the forest was looking considerably less miserable. It also meant that herbs were growing, and the medicine cat intended to take advantage of that.

Lanky paws pushed their way into the dirt, feeling it squish between his toes. Newleaf rain made it slick, but Burrpaw was thankful to be stretch his legs. The curly furred tomcat glanced over at Cherrypaw, who was currently irritating an elder. He privately thanked the stars for getting the gullible ginger tom to do bedding duty.
The light brown apprentice noticed Beechface walking outside of camp. He didn’t see Birdsong, and they had just gone through hunting training, so he went behind Beechface to see if there was anything new that he could do.
“Hello,” the apprentice meowed once he was within a foxlength of the medicine cat. “Where are you off to? Can I help?”
OOC: You roll an effect dice and pick a herb from the list. As this thread is in the Great Ridge, you add +2 to whatever you roll and pick herbs from the resulting tier in the spoiler of the first post (if you roll a 4/5/6, you're basically at the max tier you can go). You can take descriptions from the herbs and usages list.
It wasn't long for the sound of pawsteps made Beechface's ears twitch, and she slowed her pace a bit, allowing the shorter cat to catch up to her. She glanced over as he spoke, dark gaze settling on the apprentice for a moment.
"Hello, Burrpaw," Beechface mewed, "I'm looking for herbs along the great ridge today, I could use an extra paw if you're not needed elsewhere." The light brown tom was Birdsong's apprentice, she remembered. Hopefully Birdsong hadn't been planning on training him right now.
...It bothered Beechface that she didn't know her daughter as well as she would've liked. Birdsong was kind and didn't enjoy fighting... And was intimidated by her. Other than that, she knew nothing much about the slender warrior that was Ravenclaw's daughter to the rest of the clan beyond what she'd seen from a distance. If she was half as good a mentor as her father was, Beechface would be happy.
A scent caught the medicine cat's attention, and she followed it a short distance before coming to a stop in front of the herb, fat almond-shaped leaves on tall stems sprouting from between a small cluster of rocks. Tansy, good for greencough. Carefully, she nipped at the plant to harvest it, setting the herbs to one side to bring back to camp.
"Alright, if you see anything, call me over. I'll harvest them for you, some of the plants are quite delicate." Beechface mewed.
Burrpaw nodded to the medicine cat as he went out on the prowl. She seemed very determined and he wasn’t going to break her concentration unless he thought it was worth it.
It was then that he spotted an interesting plant. He sniffed at it, not sure if it was stable or if he would break it or something. It was a yellow-orange flower that looked like a miniature sun with wide leaves. The tom turned his head to find Beechface and meowed, “Hey Beechface, what’s this?”

Beechface kept an ear flicked in Burrpaw's direction as they searched, and at his voice, padded towards the young apprentice to inspect what he had found. Yellow-orange flowers, and despite her earlier grumpiness the medicine cat smiled.
"Marigold, good find." She mewed, carefully harvesting the flowers and placing them with what she'd already found. With that, she turned back in search of more herbs, and she quickly picked up the stronger scent of a plant not far off. The plant in question had yellow and white flowers, and the coltsfoot was quickly harvested and set aside.
"How are you finding training, Burrpaw?" Beechface asked after a moment. Checking in on apprentices allowed her and their mentor to assess when they'd be ready to go to the moonstone to speak with their ancestors, but Beechface was also genuinely curious.

Beechface considered Burrpaw's question. Not one she had ever thought to ask, herself, but she could see why an apprentice might be curious about how medicine cats had the knowledge they did. "Honestly? I don't know. Cats would've had to experiment at some point, I'm sure. Now that knowledge has been passed down from medicine cat to apprentice for generations." Beechface responded. Sagelight had learned from Mintwhisker and Mossbloom, she had learn from him. Beechface had never given it much more thought than that, however.

“That’s so cool,” Burrpaw said, eyes wide. “I guess that’s how we got to be warriors too. Somebody found all this out.”
The lanky apprentice padded to the right of Beechface, smelling another peculiar plant. “Hey, what’s this?”
It was another yellow flower, but it looked like tree tops. Clumps of yellow together, held up by thin stems. He worried if he touched it wrong, he would break it.

"Pretty much." Beechface agreed, turning in search of more herbs. The yellow leaves of tansy caught her eye, and she quickly harvested it, adding it to the pile to take back to camp.
Beechface padded towards the apprentice and his find, allowing herself a smile at the yellow-flowered plant. "Coltsfoot, excellent find! It's good for kittencough and soothes cracked pads." She mewed. Her herb pile was slowly growing, and all things considered they were doing much better than Beechface had expected.
