Quietly, Ivystar peeked into the apprentice's den and looked around for Cloverpaw's familiar pelt. It was the morning after her apprentice ceremony, and today they'd be exploring RiverClan territory and learning how to hunt- probably catching fish as an easy starter. Once she'd spotted the young she-cat, she padded forward, careful to watch out for any stray limbs or tails, and prodded her shoulder gently once she reached her nest. "Time for training, Cloverpaw," She whispered quietly, not wanting to wake any of her denmates. Once she was finished she stood up and exited the den, crossing camp and sitting patiently at the exit of the camp, waiting for the newly named apprentice to join her.

How early was it? was the little cat's first thought as she felt herself being poked at. She screwed her face up, feeling quite a bit grumbly about it until her brain caught up, and as soon as she registered who the voice waking her up belonged to her whole demeanor changed. Cloverpaw quickly lifted her head, blinking the sleep from her eyes and stretching out her legs before weaving her way out of the den and trotting over to her mentor. "Good morning, Ivystar," she mewed, stifling a yawn. "What are we doing today?" She almost couldn't believe she got to ask that question, couldn't believe she was finally an apprentice and finally getting to go out and train and— she quickly shook her head to slow herself down, smiling up at Ivystar as she waited for response.

Once Cloverpaw had left the den and padded up to her, Ivystar motioned with a flick of her tail for the young she-cat to follow her out of camp. "Some light training. We'll start at the river and work on our fishing technique, and go from there," She mewed, stepping over the streams and rivulets of water spread across the territory. They'd been walking for quite a while before finally reaching the river, where they would stop for the day. Slowly, Ivystar walked up to the shore, gazing down at her reflection in the water. "Alright, Cloverpaw. This is one of the most essential skills you'll ever learn, and you'll learn to perfect it over the coming moons." Ivystar mewed in a low voice. Edging closer to the water, she scanned it with her eyes until finally, she spotted a silver-scaled fish swimming just beneath the surface. With an outstretched paw, she unsheathed her claws and quickly swiped at the fish, sending anything within the vicinity flying as she did so. When she pulled her paw from the water, a fish came with it, and she turned to face Cloverpaw. "Your turn, Cloverpaw." She mewed gently, standing back so the apprentice could get a shot.

Alright! So for hunting, you'll want to look here to find out the prey you're rolling for (in this case, fish) and what rolls count as a successful hunt. Roll the hunting dice and if you roll within the correct numbers for your Clan/season (RiverClan's fish rolls atm are 1-9) then you've got a successful catch! If it's outside those numbers it's an unsuccessful catch, and if it's a ten, then you've triggered a predator encounter. We'll cross that bridge if we get there ;D
Once you've rolled the hunting dice, you can go back and edit your post to reflect the results. I've rolled a 6, so it's within the numbers for a successful fish catch and I've edited my post to reflect that. If you have any questions, please dm me on site or on discord and I'll be happy to help!
edit to note: each successful catch during this season costs -3 stamina points, so make sure to note that in your post somewhere!

The walk through the territory would have been enough to satisfy Cloverpaw for a day of training. She was amazed at their jog out of camp, using every chance she could to spin her head around and take in every single tail-length of RiverClan– she even tripped over the small dips in the territory.
As they walked, she could hear a faint babbling that quickly turned into the gentle roll of moving water. The apprentice's chest thrummed with excitement, and as the river came into view, she gasped, amazed by the sight. She was so caught up in it she almost missed Ivystar speaking, but the she-cat's voice drew her back to attention. Watching her mentor closely as she approached the river, Cloverpaw tried to memorize every little thing about the way she moved, even the way she lifted the fish out of the water. Okay. I've got this. she assured herself, replacing the older cat's spot at the river's edge.
It felt like she'd been staring into the river forever until she saw a flash of scales, at which she immediately shot a paw into the water. For a moment, Cloverpaw thought she might tumble tail-over-ears and join the fish in the water, but she felt her claws connect with something a bit soft, and she quickly righted herself as she pulled her very first catch out of the water. Flicking the fish off her claws and further up the shore the she-cat looked at Ivystar with sparkling, wide eyes, chirping, "Look! Look, Ivystar, I got a fish too!"

Ivystar watched closely as Cloverpaw approached the river and waited, finally dipping her paw in the water when she saw a quick, tell-tale flash of scales just beneath the surface. A gentle smile formed on her maw when the apprentice yanked the fish out of the water, and Ivystar pushed it aside to sit with hers in what would be the beginning of a small pile. "Excellent job, Cloverpaw. Now, I'm going to move a bit downstream. You stay here, and we'll both practice our technique, alright? I'll be just over there if you need me." A flick of her tail indicated where she'd be moving. Padding over to her new spot, Ivystar made sure to keep an eye on the young apprentice from where she stood. Based on how quickly she'd learned, Ivystar didn't suspect there would be an issue, but she didn't want to go too far just in case. After monitoring the river for a moment, she saw the shine of scales and darted her paw into the water, pulling out a fish and tossing it beside her.

Her mentor's praise made Cloverpaw beam, a purr rumbling in her throat. She still couldn't believe she'd done it.. her very first try at hunting, and she'd already caught something! Any nerves she had were already starting to wash away as she repositioned herself beside the river. More than a few times, she turned her head to make sure Ivystar was watching her still.. just in case, of course. After seeing her land another catch, she turned her full attention to the water, tail lashing as she watched the current with intense eyes.
There! Another quick streak of silver below the ripples, and Cloverpaw flashed her paw out to hook it onto land. She still wobbled a little as she did, but she found her balance a bit quicker this time. She made a happy little squeak, flashing Ivystar a wide smile before picking her catch up, joining it with the rest of the pile up the bank. She shuffled back to her spot on the river, glancing at the other she-cat for acknowledgement or instruction.
