Beechface's paws sank into the snow as she made her way to the great ridge. There was an Asylum cat trailing her and her sister, who looked even more disgruntled about being forced to come along than Beechface felt at having the rogue with them at all. She was attempting to ignore the rogue's presence, not that doing so really helped.

At least she had Primroselight with her. Because no way in the Dark Forest did Beechface want to allow herself to be alone with the Asylum cats.

"I feel like a kit again, being watched everywhere I go." She thought sourly, shooting the rogue an unfriendly glare. Except Smokefeather and Bloodstrike would never raise claws against her if she tried to sneak away. She'd get a stern talking to, and maybe a gentle cuff over the ear at worst. Mostly her wanderings had been met with amusement. Not so with the filth occupying Skyclan territory. That she-cat had attacked Copperfox for no reason other than she could. Even now it made her bristle in anger.

Lost in her thoughts, Beechface remained silent until they'd reached the great ridge. In the distance the sight of the long border the clan shared with twolegplace was visible, and she turned away from it to face Primroselight.

"Alright, we'll search this area for herbs. Call me if you find anything that smells... useful, I guess?" Primroselight had spent enough time in her den to tell the difference from herbs and normal foliage, or so Beechface hoped. Of course, the snow dampened most scents, so the medicine cat wasn't going to get her hopes up of finding much in this weather. Even she couldn't find herbs that simply weren't there.

Beechface got the distinct impression that she'd be needing more chervil and raspberry leaves soon. Adderflare of all cats was pregnant. And it looked like she wasn't the only one, though Beechface would keep her suspicions to herself unless the she-cats approached her first. The elders had become increasingly frail recently as well, likely due to both leaf-bare's chill and the stress of the current situation the clan was in. Nighthawk in particular was an uneasy ball of both anxiety and exhaustion. And from the stiffness in her movements, her old injuries were acting up as well as her age finally catching up to her. Wolfstar was still recovering from his own injuries, too.

Nothing she would say out loud, however, not with Asylum ears listening to every conversation.

Primroselight shivered slightly as she padded towards the great ridge at her sister's side. Her pelt was thick, but nowhere near as warm as Beechface or Smokefeather's, so she still felt the cold. If there was anything she could do to help her sister to keep the clan healthy in leaf-bare, she would, and so she soldiered on through the freezing snow. Hopefully some herbs would still be surviving, otherwise this would be for nothing. It hadn't been too long since she had last done something with Beechface, but she always enjoyed being with her. Since she was a medicine cat, it wasn't usually as simple as a quick hunt to bond with her, like she would with Smokefeather. Or Sparrowflight... Recently, the tom had been on her mind a lot more than she would like to admit. He was one of the few cats outside her family who she felt truly... connected to. To put it simply, they were growing to be a bit more than just friends.

"Ok, will do," Primroselight said when they stopped. As a warrior who relied on her nose to make up for her lack of sight, hopefully she would be good a sniffing out herbs.

She headed off in the direction of the Twolegplace fence, wondering if there would be any herbs sneaking through beneath the wooden panels. Twolegs often planted herbs in their gardens, but Primroselight didn't think they even used them to heal. Just as she had hoped, the sweet smell of some kind of flower caught her attention. With her nose to the ground, she found a few blossoms peeking through. When she gently poked them with her claw, the shape reminded her of a daisy, but they smelt different.

"Are these good?" She called to Beechface and pointed at them. Whilst she waited for an answer, she picked them up in her mouth, careful not to crush them in her jaws.

The medicine cat turned, yellow-green eyes scanning their surroundings for signs of greenery poking through the dreary leaf-bare forest. After a bit of searching, large, fern-like leaves with white flowers caught her attention, standing out starkly against the snow. Chervil would definitely be useful sooner rather than later, Beechface knew, so she set about carefully harvesting some of the plant while leaving enough left for new growth come newleaf.

Beechface lifted her head at Primroselight's voice, trotting over to where the warrior had wandered close to the twoleg fence to inspect what she'd found.

"Feverfaw! Great find." She mewed, "It's very useful. Good for fevers." She purred, fluffy tail lightly brushing her sister's shoulder. She could tell that the shorter-furred warrior was cold, and hopefully if they continued to find useful herbs they wouldn't have to spend all day out here.

"I'd like to find a few more herbs before heading back, hopefully." She sighed, giving their Asylum guard a less-than friendly glare. They didn't need the rogue's help, not with the herbs, anyways.

"Good, I hoped it wasn't just a pretty flower or something," Primroselight said when Beechface confirmed she had, in fact, found something of use. She carefully nipped the stems and made a small pile beside their other herbs, but was careful to leave a few shoots so that it could grow back once the forest had thawed.

As she padded away from the Twolegplace fence, another scent caught her nose. It was noticeable even through the snow, and it was definitely something she recognised from her time with Beechface in the medicine den. She wandered towards it, and the scent grew stronger as she neared. The reason for this was soon obvious, since she had to reach under a bush where the ground was untouched by snow to retrieve the plant. She placed the few stems on the ground, and tried to remember what they were. I'm pretty sure you eat them... something about coughing as well... Tansy. She knew it wasn't easy to find as well, so she happily brought it to the medicine cat, hoping she was right in her suspicions.

Beechface made an absentminded noise of agreement before turning to find her own herbs once more. A scent caught her attention, and following it, her nose lead her to a small clump of blueish-purple berries. Carefully, Beechface harvested a few from the bush, turning to add them to the steadily-growing pile of herbs she and her sister had collected.

It wasn't long before Primroselight joined her, with a familiar-smelling bundle carefully held in her jaws.

"Tansy." Beechface smiled, relieved that their outing was going well despite leaf-bare. The herbs were quickly added to their growing stash, before Beechface turned away once more. "It took me ages to memorize that one, I'm glad I did with how useful it is." She mewed.

One more good haul from each of them and they should have enough to return to camp. The day had turned out much better than Beechface had thought it would.

The two she-cats seemed to be having very good luck on their hunt, with useful herb after useful herb being found. Primroselight was glad that had had been a help to Beechface so far, and was definitely enjoying the slow pace of the hunt. Compared to hunting prey, it was a lot more relaxing and calming. It was almost therapeutic in a way, and she understood why it was something her sister liked to do.

Once again, her paws strayed from the main path in search of any herbs that Beechface might deem worth collecting. She came across a small stream which probably ran into the moonlit creek, and beside it she noticed some flowers. They were shrivelled a little in the frost, but were still strong and alive. It surprised her how weak their scent was, but she brought them back to the medicine cat just in case. "Are these any good?" She asked after she had placed them down.

Beechface followed her nose once more, catching a faint scent on the breeze. The plant she found herself standing in front of stood out against the dreary landscape, almond-shaped leaves atop a tall stem. Chickweed could treat greencough, and Beechface would never turn down having extra in her stores. Carefully harvesting some, she padded back to the growing pile of herbs, carefully setting the leaves among their growing cache.

It wasn't long before Primroselight again returned with a clump of flowers.

"Marigold. I'll have to use them sooner, but they'll be good enough. I'm surprised they lasted this long into leaf-bare." Beechface replied after a moment of assessing the flowers. Their scent was weaker than she'd like, but with the way Skyclanners seemed to enjoy getting injured, Beechface was sure she'd use them up before they could lose any more of their healing qualities.

Everything was going well with the herb hunt so far, but Primroselight still continued her search, even if her toes were beginning to grow a little numb. At least with hunting live prey you were always moving. However, when only searching for stationary plants, the slow pace left the short-pelted warrior shivering. She retraced her paw steps back to where she had found the tansy earlier, since the bush it was under had provided very good cover from the frost.

Much to her luck, she found another small cluster of the sought-after plant, and grabbed a few more stems. She tried her best to stop her teeth chattering as she carried them back to Beechface and their herb pile.

"How long to normally st-stay out on hunts?" As far as Primroselight was aware, they had built up a pretty good pile of herbs, but with leaf-bare came ever-looming sickness and injury, so she wasn't too sure.
