Oldies but Goodies

Mossbloom's eyes had brightened considerably since her retirement. The cough had still lingered, but it really only lasted for the morning, once the sun had been up for a while and the day warmed, it lessened. Today was a beautiful, sunny day, and the calico found herself longing to go out into the territory for a walk, or to search for herbs. Her heart still ached when she looked towards the ferns that led the way to the medicine den, and she wondered if she made the right choice. It was too late to go back now, though. With a sigh, the elder got up and meandered towards the fresh-kill pile, selecting a mouse, vole, thrush, and a squirrel from it. Making her way towards the medicine den, she offered Daisybloom a mouse, nuzzling her apprentice's cheek and whispering soft words of encouragement before gathering the rest of the prey and returning to the elders den, nudging Dustcloud and Ferretnose gently. "Hey, everyone, I brought some prey for us all. Eat whatever you like, we should have plenty." Mossbloom purred, stretching out after arranging the prey in between the other elders. "How is everyone feeling today? The sun is making my cough feel much better, I hope it stays that way."

Silverrain jumped slightly as Mossbloom spoke, having not noticed she had come with prey. It was with a smile that she stood up, limping over to select the squirrel. She absolutely loved squirrel. "Mossbloom! This is so thoughtful of you, thank you! You didn't have to come all this way to take care of us! Shouldn't you be training that apprentice of yours?" Some would think the memory that Mossbloom was an elder would stick, considering she had the rank for a while now. But it wouldn't be Silverrain if she remembered things.

Taking a bite of her squirrel, she listened as Mossbloom continued to speak, mentioning a cough. "I'm so glad your cough is better, but have you gotten it checked out? I'm sure Daisybloom wouldn't mind looking into it! You trained her well after all!"

Ivydream woke to the sound of chatter and realized mossbloom brought food. She shakily got to her paws and stretched, hearing as every bone cracked with pleasure. She smiled at the other elders as she slowely padded towards them. As the tortie sat down to look at the prey she heard their coversation. "Im good, Aching but all good." she mewed deciding to grab a mouse as she wasnt that hungry. She took a bite, relishing in the fact that it was delicious.
