Primroselight was unsure whether she should believe what had happened. As of last night, Dawnhawk carried the title of deputy, and along with it almost unlimited power. He had seemed surprised at Wolfstar's decision, but everything about didn't sit right with her. Still, life had to go on, even if she believed her clan to be doomed.

She was half way through tearing up a rabbit when she heard paw steps coming towards her. Since she didn't immediately recognise the scent, her lips drew back in a snarl as she assumed it was a rouge trying to be friendly with her. However, she quickly felt embarrassed by her reaction. It was only Wrenspring, a warrior who she had rarely talked with. He was Graybird's father though, and her old apprentice had spoken very highly of him. When Sagelight had died, Primroselight had taken specific notice to how Wrenspring had been there for her. She definitely appreciated how he had helped her sister work through her grief, but the warrior hoped that the two weren't getting too close since Beechface was a medicine cat. Even if Asylum changed all the rules, Primroselight would still follow them, and trust her family to do the same.

"Hi," She said, still a little embarrassed, "Sorry for my reaction, I just thought you were someone else." Quickly, she took another bite of the rabbit, hoping he wasn't too offended. "How's Graybird?" Starting with casual conversation would probably be a good idea, but she could always ask him about his views on Dawnhawk later. If she did anything that involved rising up, she would need to know were everyone stood on the matter.

A haze had settled across Skyclan, one that seemed to dim the sparse rays of sunlight that sought to offer them some semblance of hope. Wrenspring had learned many moons ago to not dream of wistful longings. Regardless, it didn't seemed to dissipate the condemning cloud of apprehension that seemed to enwreathe him. Maybe it was willful ignorance or foolish allegiance but he would not call into question Wolfstar's appointment of Dawnhawk even if others did. It seemed like a horrific mistake but surely their leader had something in mind. In the past the other tom had made mistakes but he wasn't down-brained.

Originally the sparrow between his teeth had been held in the most ginger of grasps but as he padded along, teeth had sunk further into the feathery creature until they ground against frail bones. Eyes had landed on the familiar frame of Primroselight. The pair of them had hardly spoken previously by the look about her spoke of a cat who needed companionship. Even under such surreal circumstances, they could seek out some semblance of normality in a moment of sharing tongues. There came a guttural snarl that stopped him in his tracks. His mind remembered Redfall for a brief moment and the flicker of a thought came that another one of his clanmates might attack him. But her features softened and apology quickly came.

Wrenspring managed a stiff nod before shaking out his coat. Thankfully she wasn't privy to seeing his reaction. The tom settled down and placed his meal on the ground. There was nothing much to be said about her instinctual defensiveness, so a silent understanding was all his clanmate received on that front. Conversation of his daughter was a might lighter topic and one he was more than willing to indulge in as he picked at the feathers of the sparrow, "She's well. Thanks to your training, Graybird has become a wonderful warrior. You did well with her... I couldn't have asked for a better mentor for my kit."

Primroselight blushed slightly at Wrenspring's praise. "I'm glad that you think so highly of me as a mentor." She said, a little embarrassed. "Graybird's a good cat, and a great warrior. She takes after her father." What are you doing? Do you like him or something? She quickly took a bite of her rabbit, leading to a few short seconds of silence. Eager to move the topic along, she turned to the subject that she really wanted to discuss with the tom.

"What do you think about... Dawnhawk being made deputy?" She asked cautiously, painfully aware of the rouges that filled the camp. They were always listening, just in case anyone put a claw out of line. She hated the camp being so full, as it meant there was more cats to navigate around, to avoid bumping into. "I'm sure Wolfstar has his reasons, no matter how wrong they might be, but still. Someone less traitorous, like yourself, would surely have been a better option." Why are you giving him so many compliments? Primroselight didn't know what was coming over her, but she had tried to cover her own views on the matter as much as possible.

Forever changing times [c] Empty

Wrenspring had parted his maw to say something in response, encourage her further - Starclan knew they needed it in this time - however, she interrupted with her own praise. The warrior's ears heated at the sudden compliment and admittedly he had found his tongue stalled for a moment. Pride bubbled up in his chest regardless. Despite her parents not being the most adoring of mates and often her mother being immersed in anything other than engaging with the young she-cat, Graybird had turned out to be a wonderful warrior. Everyday he felt honored to have been given such a wonderful kit. Training apprentices had been great but he'd never considered fathering a kit until the very moment it happened.

Long ago he had chatted with Smokefeather about matters of parenthood and there were things he could only understand after having Graybird. He tipped his head but tamed his tongue. For a moment he found himself wondering if Primroselight had ever considered having kits of her own but it wasn't exactly the conversation to having with just any cat. Besides, she had moved onto another subject. There was a second where his stomach churned at the thought of answering the question. The thought of him being deputy instead. Would other cats have preferred that? Well, at least it would have been a cat not in league with Asylum. Various thoughts flickered through his mind and bombarded him. The tom fell silent for a beat and his unseen expression a tad stoic in nature. Decidedly, there would be no proper words.

"It's not really my place to question the actions of my leader. I trust Wolfstar, you know, just like I trusted Spottedstar before him. They wouldn't be leaders if Starclan didn't support them." Wrenspring's tone was hallow but assured. There were whispers of cats losing faith in Starclan and as much as he willed to be one of them, the gray and white tom could never bring himself to do so. Faith in something had always defined him, whether it be the code or his ancestors. Lion's Eye was among the blanket of stars that speckled a navy sky above. Their direction aided him silently. It was this reminder that provoked a sympathetic sigh, ""But I can see why cats are frustrated. This isn't a pleasant circumstance, no matter which way you look at it from."
