Silent Night [solo topic, closed]

A cool breeze drifted across the camp, carrying a few dead leaves. The air tasted crisp, a stark contrast from the earlier heat of greenleaf, and the sky had turned somewhat gray. The lights of sunset hid behind a blanket of clouds, somewhat a disappointment to Mirae. She enjoyed watching the peculiar, bleeding colors that seeped into the sky before darkness enveloped the landscape. Almost every night, after training, Mirae had taken to watching the sunset with a meal before sleep. But, as she looked up at the bleary sky, she couldn't help but feel disappointed. She wouldn't get to see anything neat tonight, so she could skip her nightly routine. However, as she stood up and her head turned to the Standards den, her paws urged her to move. Mirae stood still for a moment, debating whether or not to go out for a bit.

Couldn't hurt anything. With a small shrug, the patched she-cat trotted to the camp entrance. She'd figure out what to do when she got there. The well-worn path to the outside guided Mirae's paws, even in the fading light. Then, she stood in the open grass. The small blades under her feet felt far fresher than they had in the past moons, and the whole landscape teemed with life. She had thought that the onset of leaf-fall would slowly sap the life away from her world, but the new moisture in the air that greenleaf lacked had caused all life to thrive before the dangers of leaf-bare. A small smile formed on Mirae's face. She couldn't help it; the world around her intrigued her, and seeing it flourish made her feel lighter. She breathed the cool air and set off towards a small copse of trees.

The chirping of crickets and the slow-emerging yips and squeaks of night life had begun to grow from the shadows. They covered the sounds of her pawsteps as she approached her destination. Mirae scanned the undergrowth. She could probably catch one of the nocturnal prey animals that lurked in the bushes. With a final glance to the ever darkening sky, she padded softly into the shade of the trees. The young cat stopped, forepaws settled on a mossy tree root as her green eyes peered through the land around her. Ivy and moss covered the ground and a covering of leaves peppered the floor. On the right, one of those leaves shifted ever so slightly, catching her observant eye. Mirae's whiskers twitched upon smelling the warm scent of mouse. Her body tensed and instinctively lowered into a crouch, her front half twisting in the direction of her prey as she slowly moved towards it. None of the sounds of the night could distract her as her eyes trained on the leaf which would surely hide the mouse. Then, when she had gotten close enough for a good pounce, Mirae leaped.

However, her nose had deceived her. The leaf had hidden something much larger, its fur camouflaging easily with the dried fallen leaves. Right before her paws landed on her suspected prey, a weasel darted out from where it had hidden. Mirae hadn't expected such a thing to happen, so her paws skidded on the ground and she couldn't regain her balance. A moment of panic flooded her system as she realized the vulnerability of her situation, the weasel now at her back and rearing back for an attack. "Gah!" A strangled cry escaped her lips as sharp teeth dug into her rump and pain sparked through her muscles.

The weasel flew from her grip, its sleek fur and small form easily slipping out of her grasp. However, it hadn't recovered from the side-to-side thrashing it had received from Mirae, so it laid still on the ground. Its claws scrabbled feebly at nothing in particular. Seeing the weasel stunned, the young she-cat wasted no time in attacking again. She bounded forward, gait unsteady from the bleeding wound on her behind, and reared up on her hind legs. Since the creature laid prone and existed as an easy target, Mirae would attack with full force. She brought her claws down on its side with all of her weight, however little of it she had, and felt her claws rip through its skin. Her attack prompted a squeal from the weasel as it trembled on the ground, still dizzy from the shaking.

As Mirae stepped back from her attack, the weasel shook its head and rounded on her. It arched its back and opened its mouth to let out a loud chirping. Its eyes glinted in the evening glow and she could tell that it wouldn't give up just yet. She tried to take a few steps back, but it lunged forward with the speed of a snake and sank its teeth into her left foreleg. Mirae cried out in shock and pain and tried to fling it off of her leg, but the creature held on tight.

Mirae had had enough. The pain in her rump and leg grew to almost unbearable levels in the moment, and she just wanted the weasel off of her. As shaking her leg only made it hurt more, she shoved her right forepaw onto its flank, pushing it to the ground. Mirae, acting on pure instinct at this point, sank her teeth into the weasel's throat. She held still as the life left its eyes and its jaws loosened. She stepped back and looked down at the battered thing. After a few licks on her leg wound, Mirae sighed. finally, it was dead.

Mirae used Asylum's Mercy(or killing bite??) on the weasel, KO-ing it and costing 10 stamina and ending the battle.

Mirae looked around, unsure of what to do. The weasel, in its state, wouldn't serve as good prey. She didn't even know if a cat could eat a weasel in the first place. So, she dragged it over to a dip in the ground and covered it with leaves. If she could at least catch one thing, she could relax. Bring something back to the camp, since she guessed she would need herbs. Mirae limped off a ways from the scene, reaching the other side of the copse. Her eyes landed on a vole that had settled itself down with an acorn, trying to get to the meat inside. She once again crouched and began to creep towards what she hoped to be her prey.

However, her injured state caused her to step heavily on her right foreleg right on top of a twig. It snapped and the vole disappeared in a blink of an eye. Mirae cursed under her breathed and straightened up. She couldn't catch something in this state. She kicked a pebble to where the vole had stood and turned around, tail low, ready to go home.
