After having gone out with a couple of the other Rank Ones, Iniko had decided that instead of specifically hunting for pelts, they would be checking the borders today. It wasn't long now until Asylum was set to strike on the forest. The calico tom cast his gaze over the sparsely covered lands. Their camp was well hidden and far enough off the normal path of Highstones that no clan cat would have noticed them. A gentle breeze ruffled his long pelt and he sucked in the scents. Dog.

Iniko glanced over his shoulder and back at Griffon, who was accompanying him today. He flickered his gaze in the direction of the scent. There was the outline of the beast not far off. It seemed to be a decent size. Dog pelts weren't as common among Asylum cats, given only those that could fit a cat were relevant. This looked to be the young tom's lucky day. Finally, after an brief moment, the captain meowed lowly, "How do you feel about earning your pelt today? It appears the opportunity has arisen."

Griffon had been beyond excited to get a pelt. He had been working hard in both his battle and hunting training, and he had already learned a decent amount. A few of his denmates had received their pelts, as well as multiple Rank One Scouts and Nightstrikers. He had seen cats sporting many different predators, from raccoons to foxes, and he was super curious to see what his would be. All he knew so far was that he was out with Iniko, but whenever he was training he kept the thoughts in his mind. After all, Pyrik had been given a pelt during what was supposed to be a hunting session, so anything could happen.

It was almost as if the Captain was reading his mind, when he started to speak. The younger tom’s eyes widened, and he nodded quickly. "Thank you, Captain Iniko." He started towards the predator, brown eyes blazing. He had much improved from his last predator encounter and now knew more advanced battle moves. One of the classic Aslyum tactics was perfect for starting a battle, and that was what he was going to do now.

The young tom struck at the dog, slashing at it quickly, having the advantage of the first move. He quickly glanced back at the calico tom, hoping to find a look of approval in his eyes.

Griffin used Sanctum Strike, dealing 15 damage and costing 20 stamina! The dog is stunned for one turn.

The dog was surprised and began to bark angrily. It rounded on it's opponent with dripping jowls but found itself too dazed by the attack to find anything more than shaky footing. There was a confused, low growl as he tried to pinpoint somewhere to snap at but jaws found only air.

Iniko looked after the young tom, a gleam in his eyes. The move was that of Asylum themselves, none of the various clanborn moves. With each passing day they were turning more and more into genuine Standards. The thought didn't please him as much as it used to. For a flicker of a moment, the Captain found himself entertaining thoughts of Tanglerose rather than being engaged in the fight happening right before his eyes.

Realizing it, he flicked his whiskers and dashed away the thought with another lash of his tail. This was no place for such thoughts. What kind of Captain was he? As he watched Griffon go in for another attack, Iniko found himself realizing that a part of him had enjoyed time away from Asylum, more so than ever before.

Dog is stunned.

Griffon was glad with the way his attack had turned out. The dog hadn’t even been able to strike back, it had been so afraid. He smiled, despite the circumstances . He felt confident that he could beat this predator, and he had an experienced fighter supervising him, just in case. Looking closer at the dog’s coat, he noted that it would look pretty intimidating, and he was excited to wear it one day. Although he wasn’t quite sure about battling cats. He hadn’t had a real battle besides ones against predators, and that was surely different. Why would anyone pick a fight with the Asylum? They were a large, strong group. And from what he had heard, pretty much unmatched in skill.

The tom was proud of how far he had come. Already, at his young age, he had engaged in two battles with predators, and he was about to have killed two. He was no longer just a kit, but a Standard. He eyed the beast, waiting for the perfect moment. If he did this right, he could take it out, the way he had been taught to kill. The dog was not able to guess his next move, and if it could stay that way, Griffon could maintain the upper hand. After timing it out in his head, he struck out, lunging towards it’s throat. He bit it, sinking his teeth in just enough to puncture through. He stepped away, admiring his work for a moment. He had done it! And now, he would wear the pelt of the dog.

Two beasts had fallen to the young tom's paws now. One day a time would come where the numbers were countless. Iniko could hardly remember his own first two kills despite being a tom who resorted to claws only when necessary. Asylum did that to cats, stretched their utility and built their strength. As a result, this rank one would bear the pelt of a dog for some moons to come. The calico tom greeted the younger Standard with an approving nod of his head. Together they would head back to the camp and get this pelt cleaned up. As a true Standard, Griffon would learn the art of crafting pelts and refining them into something usable. It was useful to be such a resourceful creature.

Iniko's tail flickered as they turned to head back towards the camp, "You did well, Griffon, I am impressed with your battle skills. This pelt will only increase your strength and protect you further in battle. Never forget the strength and muscle it bore underneath its coat and make that your own."
