The nights had grown colder, and the fluffy white stuff on the ground made Mistyfalcon's pelt stick out against the dark surroundings. He found himself not quite minding the way it felt under his paws, at least, it seemed a bit better than mud and pine needles for the moment.
Brighteye had fallen into step beside him, and her pale fur blended beautifully with the snow. She was hardly visible, a stark contrast to Mistyfalcon and he slipping between the shadows of the trees in an effort to make himself not stand out as much. His paws sank into the snow, slowing his usual quick pace. Thankfully there wasn't a lot of it, but with their luck that would change.
Dark gaze flicked over to Brighteye, then scanned the pines around them for signs of prey. The snow lay unbroken, the night air still as he lifted his muzzle, scenting nothing. Mistyfalcon couldn't help the prickle of unease at that, piercing gaze sweeping their surroundings uneasily. It was too quite, and it unsettling. While he enjoyed the peace and silence that Brighteye's companionship always offered, the forest was rarely so quiet unless something else lurked in the shadows.

In some ways, Brighteye enjoyed the snow. It meant that she didn't have to spend all her time trying to hide in the shadows, and instead be automatically camouflaged, as well as Crowpaw was in the night. But she had to try quite hard to suppress the shivering, as her thin pelt did little to trap the heat. Nevertheless, she braved through the cold with Mistyfalcon at her side. She knew that if she were to keep up her promise to herself, she should spend less time with the tom, but a part of her wanted to constantly protect him from everything.
A calm air lay in the night sky, but with it brought a certain eeriness with it. She was on high alert, however, with her ears pricked. Brighteye didn't know if she was wary for prey or danger, but she would protect Mistyfalcon at all costs, no matter what lay around the next tree.

Both cats were shivering slightly, and Mistyfalcon hoped that they would find prey sooner rather than later so they could go back to camp. His own pelt was a bit thicker than Brighteye's, but was mostly short. A gust of chilly wind made her ears rotate back in mild irritation, but otherwise he kept silent, dark gaze scanning the unbroken snow before them in hopes of prey.
"Brighteye, duck!" He hissed suddenly as the reason for the eerie silence made itself known. Mistyfalcon caught the sweep of wings, and from the shadow of the trees he lunged for the owl in silent ferocity as it dove for Brighteye's pale form.
Owl used Swoop on Brighteye for -20sp, dealing -30 damage. Mistyfalcon used Shadowed Ambush on Owl for -15sp, dealing -9 damage. Night Finesse is Active, +2 damage.

Before she could register what Mistyfalcon was telling her, she felt harsh talons across her back. They dug into her flesh, covering little of her pelt but going deep through her skin. Blood trickled down her side, staining small patches of the bright white snow crimson, so it matched her now bloodied pelt. Her friend launched himself in to help her, but a small part of her was a bit ungrateful. I'm supposed to be protecting you, not the other way around! She thought. The forest worked in their favour luckily, with Mistyfalcon's darker pelt blending in with the shadows and Brighteye's fur almost melting into the surrounding snow.
She had to take a few moments to recover from the blow, but soon she was up and fighting. As she reared up on her hind legs, she had to clench her jaws to fight the pain in her back. With unsheathed claws, she raked at the owl, focussing mostly on its wings, as it would be hard to defeat it whilst it was in the air still. But what was it with predators when her and Mistyfalcon were out together? What if it was a sign form Starclan that they should stop spending time together? Maybe they approved of Brighteye's decision of Crowpaw.
Brighteye used Rear-up to Slash on Owl, costing 15 SP and dealing 13 damage Night Finesse is Active, +2 damage

Mistyfalcon twisted, back paws slicing furiously at the owl as it sank it's talons into Brighteye's fur. Both she and the snow around here were stained crimson, seeming impossibly bright against the pale background it was set against, and that fueled his attacks. The owl screeched and thrashed in fury and pain, before rounding on Misty with a sharp talon. That was better, it bothered him greatly that the owl had gone after Brighteye, who blended so easily into the snow, rather than going after him. The sight of Brighteye's blood bothered him more.
Talons pierced his shoulder, but Mistyfalcon ignored the pain. Blood dripped from the wound, but the owl was weakening beneath their claws. Attacking Brighteye had been a mistake, and the owl would pay.
Mistyfalcon used Back Kick on Owl for -15sp, dealing -11 damage. Owl used Talon Strike on Mistyfalcon for -10sp, dealing -10 damage. Night Finesse is Active, +2 damage.

Brighteye watched in fear as the owl attacked Mistyfalcon, tearing at his shoulder. She winced as she watched it, the fresh red wounds on her back tingling slightly. The bird's claws were cruel, and could damage to the best of fighters. Noticing that the winged predator was now focussed on her friend, the white warrior kicked hard with her back legs. Taken by surprise, its wingbeats faltered a little as it recovered. A few moments freed while it was distracted, she shouted worriedly out to Mistyfalcon.
"Mistyfalcon! Are you alright?" Even though his scars were truly healed now, a part of her was scared that they would all open up and worsen.
Brighteye used Back Kick on Owl, costing 15 SP dealing 15 damage Night Finesse is Active, +2 damage

The owl slowly stopped struggling, brown and cream feathers becoming still as it took its' last breath beneath their paws. The snow was stained with blood, as was Brighteye. Mistyfalcon's own shoulder stung slightly, but the pain was nothing. Brighteye, on the other paw, bothered him greatly. Her question about him being fine went dismissed with a shrug. Just another scar to add to the collection, he figured, but really, the wound wasn't that bad. He'd be able to walk on it, which was good enough.
"Are you okay?" He asked, dark gaze flashing with concern as he looked over the scratches across her back. That odd feeling in his chest was back, but it wasn't something that Mistyfalcon could quite put a name to yet. It went beyond protectiveness of a friend though, of that much he was certain.

"I'm alright, as long as you are..." Brighteye said, but stopped herself quickly. It wasn't fair to lead her friend on after she had made her decision. The gashes on her back still wouldn't stop bleeding, no matter how much she tried to clean them. At this point, she was wondering if Cinderpaw would ever let the two of them hunt alone again. Every time it seemed to end in one of them being badly injured, and if not they at least ran into danger. Accepting that she couldn't stop the crimson blood staining her pelt, she got to her feet and padded over to Mistyfalcon. "We should really stop running into predators," she said, attempting to make a joke. However, it wasn't extremely Clea, so it came off a little awkwardly.

"Maybe predators should stop running into us." A half smirk briefly cross Mistyfalcon's marred face. Most of their encounters had ended with the predator in question dead... Most of them.
"I'd appreciate not seeing my best friend hurt, though... At this rate Cinderpaw might not let us out of camp for a moon. Or ever." The slightest hesitation on the word 'friend,' Mistyfalcon honestly not quite sure if that label truly classified Brighteye, at this point. Quickly covered by a teasing quip. Hopefully Brighteye hadn't picked up on that hesitation. Mistyfalcon wasn't sure he could articulate what the pale warrior was to him, he couldn't even be sure of the answer himself enough to give her one. His fur felt warm suddenly, despite the freezing air.
"We might as well bring this back to camp. We did come out here to get fresh-kill." Hopefully the joking and subject change would distract her. The owl would at least feed the clan.
