A New Silver Lining [Closed]

Flintstar gently prodded at his children, herding them in the general direction of the nursery. There was an energy to the leader that had been sadly absence for quite a while, not seen since the death of his sister. But there was a new light in his eyes as he...Not so gently shoved his sons toward their destination. It hadn't been hard to get them out of the apprentice's den - he wasn't just their father but the leader of the Clan. But perhaps, his goal had been a bit of a strange one - to introduce his kits to their newest sister...And the leader wasn't about to take no for an answer. After the loss of Mothglow, he had been...Things had been hard - he had kept doing his duties... He hadn't even been able to tell Mothglow their plans for another litter. Of course, it wasn't much a litter - a single kit but...It was still a chance of something new.

And he was going to start that by making amends and trying to be a little more active in the life of his children.

...Even if it meant pushing them into the nursery. He had already explained to them what he was up to - he simply wasn't about to take no for an answer. Family had meant everything to Thornstar and now it meant everything to him. He wasn't about to let his children go on as if their newest sister didn't exist just because they had their work as apprentices to do. For as much as Flintstar hated bonding, he had never hated bonding with family...And so, his children were going to bond with each other. "In you go," he meowed, coming to a stop at the entrance of the nursery as he swept his gaze over them. "Do be...Nice to Silverkit. She has been very...Eager to see you all, I am sure."

A soft sneeze stirred a speck of moss on the edge of the nest. Pale blue eyes opened then closed with a quiet stir while she kneaded pale claws on the warm green bedding. Her pale and black striped body tucked firmly into the warmth of the brown queen beside her with a soft purr. She hadn’t lived very long yet. A frail moon of time that let her open her eyes, and squeak softly against her mother’s warmth. The scent of milk and fur all the little she-cat knew. The delicate sound of her mother’s tender voice. Full of love and warmth so thick it settled over her with comfort.

   She loved her mother. Memorised her scent, her petite paws and muzzle. Her markings. Would never mistake her for another cat. Her father didn’t stay as often. He was different. Her mother was warm and smelled of home and safety. Her father smelled of strange things. Mud, her mother had explained once. Mud, and grass, a strange mildewy scent of leaf and the occasional bitter smell that made her little nose wrinkle.

   New scents were coming. They all smelled of moss, grass and mud. Her pale blue eyes opened wide and watched these new bulky shapes fill the tunnel. Her head tilted, heart thudded in her tiny chest before she squeaked and pressed herself closer to her mother’s warm pelt. She would protect her from these strangers.

Crowpaw went in ahead of his siblings, eager both to meet his little sister and to please his father by seeming eager to meet his little sister.

He looked down at Silverkit, who was clinging to their mother's side. He smiled and tried to make himself look small and unthreatening (not an altogether difficult feat, as he was already a little smaller than average) so he wouldn't frighten the kit.

"Hi there! You're Silverkit, right? I'm your older brother, Crowpaw," his smile widened, and he looked briefly over his shoulder, waiting for the others to follow behind him. He was pleased that he had gotten the chance to make the very first impression-- always a good position to be in. It let one have the more influence than otherwise. And more influence was always something to strive for.

Tinypaw had noticed the change in his father after Mothglow’s passing, so when Flintstar wrangled up him and the rest of his brothers, he was certainly surprised to see some of his old spirits. If it would’ve helped Flintstar go back to the way Tinypaw remembered him, he would’ve run all the way to SkyClan’s territory and back. Visiting the nursery would be kit play. Carefully, Tinypaw filed in behind Crowpaw to take a seat by his mother’s nest to peer down at his new little sister. Silverkit certainly was small-- well, all kits are, he reminded himself with a small sniff. Would she stay that small, like he had?
