Tendrils of Wisteria

It wasn't unusual for Wisteriabloom to feel bored, even when her camp was packed. Although, that might've made her boredom even more commonplace - she always felt as if she needed to be out of camp, with the scent of SkyClan everywhere, along with the clan's members. Riverclan and SkyClan combined in one place meant endless apprentices, and lots of apprentices meant lots of trouble. She didn't blame the young cats for it, for she encouraged a little fun and rule-breaking, especially with Snakekit. Her daughter didn't need the encouraging, as she could easily break the rules without help.

Her original intention had been to hunt, and so she stopped to scent for prey. She didn't particularly like hunting alone, but prey was prey, no matter how it was caught. But a sudden thought popped into her head: the cooler weather recently meant that the river would be on its way to recovering! Suddenly she broke into run, heading towards the river. When she arrived there, she paused. She had forgotten how beautiful it was - she was Riverclan down to the bone, and nothing could match her love for the water.

Hunting land prey during Greenleaf had left her annoyed; her skills in fishing were much, much better. Still excited, she plopped down on the riverbank and began to watch for fish. She carefully slipped her paw into the running stream and awaited for a fish to brush it. Much to her luck, it didn't take long for one to come a little too close to the she-cat's paw. With one swift motion, she flicked her paw upwards. All her fishing skills were flooding back to her as she caught the prey in her mouth. As her teeth sunk into it, she considered eating this one. She knew that it was against the warrior code, but she was perfectly capable of catching more. Unable to resist the temptation, she wolfed down the scaly prey; there was nothing quite like fish straight from the river.

After she had finished with her prey, she quickly hid the remains and cleaned her muzzle and paws in the river. It was bad enough breaking the warrior code, but not even trying to cover it up would be worse. Wisteriabloom may have been known for her honesty with others, but she wouldn't confess to something if it got her into trouble. Now that she had eaten her catch, she needed to continue hunting. She shuffled a little closer to the river and placed her paw back into it.

This time it took a little longer, as the fish had rerouted when she scooped one up, but eventually another brushed her paw. Like she had done before, and like Streamtail had taught her what felt like so many moons ago, she hooked her claws into the fish. She flicked up in the air, but this time she landed it on a rock. Quickly, she hit it hard on the head with a paw, ending its struggle in seconds. She soon buried it where she had planned to burry her first catch.

So happy to be by the river again, she sat a little too close to the river. Before she knew it, she was slipping into the it. Normally she would've been fine in the water, but she had been caught off guard by the slip, and also hadn't swam in a few moons. Her head went under before she had orientated herself with the sudden change in situation. She breathed in a mouthful of water, and tried her best to cough it back up. Realising how much danger she was in, she kicked hard with her legs to stop her head from going under again. Eventually she made to bank, but she was now soaked through and still coughing up some water. She didn't mind being wet, but joined with the shock she was hating it.

She shook out her long, thick fur and went to collect her fish from earlier - she had had enough of being alone today. I'll just tell everyone that I went swimming and happened to catch a fish, she thought. No-cat needed to know that she had managed to fall in.
