Song of Mist [Ebonysong]

The trees cast long shadows across the ground by the time Mistypaw finished up tending to the elders, daylight finally giving way to night as the dark tom settled by the camp entrance. Today, he was supposed to hunt with Ebonysong, and Mistypaw was looking forward to getting out of camp. The day had been hot and humid, the elders' den had been positively stifling, and the young tom was looking forward to stretching his legs. At least the night brought somewhat cooler air with it, a sign that greenleaf might actually end soon enough.

Quiet pawsteps sounded, and Mistypaw flicked an ear in acknowledgement, turning dark eyes to the warrior that approached.

"Hey, Ebonysong." He greeted.

Ebonysong padded up towards Mistypaw, remembering their plan for hunting. "Hi! Okay, are you ready to go, Mistypaw?" The always-cheerful she-cat flicked her tail in a greeting and started to lead the way into the Pine Grove. "How has training been for you?" The warrior asked, as pine trees slowly sheltered the sky. To be honest, Ebonysong hadn't interacted...much with anyone since Emberspark's...disappearance. She just hoped that he was okay.

At Ebonysong's question, Mistypaw nodded, turning to follow the dark she-cat out of camp. The pine grove wasn't his favorite place, with the acrid scent of monsters to clog his nose, but it was a good source of prey.

"It's been fine, I went out hunting with Vinetail the other day, and Tulipfang offered to spar with me." He responded.

"What have you been up to?" He asked, dark eyes flicking over to Ebonysong briefly. She'd been quiet recently, but Mistypaw didn't think he knew Ebonysong well enough to judge whether that was just her, or if something else was bothering her.

It didn't take long for the pair of cats to near the pine grove, and the apprentice parted his jaws slightly as he sniffed for prey. It didn't take long to pick up the scent of a vole, and Mistypaw slid into a crouch to stalk towards the creature slowly. When he was close enough, he'd pounce. Paws landing on the poor creature, Mistypaw quickly killed it, then turned to stash it beneath the roots of a tree.

Mistypaw attempted to hunt a vole for -3sp, catch successful!

"Not much." The older warrior replied, casting a glance at his catch. "I've just been...thinking about something. Someone. Don't think you knew him." Ebonysong wasn't sure if Mistypaw was old enough to see Emberspark around camp, but she suspected that he didn't. "Nice catch, by the way." Tracking down another mouse, Ebonysong reached a good distance, before leaping on top of it, slamming her paws on top of it. Before it could even squeak, she had already killed it with a blow to the head.

Mistypaw felt his eyes narrow at her response. She was being cagey, if unintentionally. The only cat he knew to have died recently was Mothglow, so she was probably right that the young apprentice hadn't known whoever she spoke of and it... probably wasn't his business anyway. He decided to drop it for now, there was a hunt to focus on anyway.

Spotting another mouse, the dark tom carefully crept forward, and once he was sure that he was close enough, he pounced.

Paws coming up empty, Mistypaw let out a startled hiss as the snake slid from the undergrowth, spring backwards as fangs snapped for his foreleg. Not quick enough, evidently, as the sharp fangs sliced through fur and then skin.

Snake used Serpent Strike for -10sp, dealing -10 damage to Mistypaw.

Ebonysong turned towards Mistypaw's hiss of surprise and saw a snake striking at him. Of all the possible predators...WHY did it have to be a snake? Rearing up on her hind legs, Ebonysong slashed at the snake, before coming back down again. "Mistypaw? Stay behind me, try not to attract the snake's attention. You're hurt, so don't use much power on your injured foreleg." The warrior had to protect the apprentice, even if she got graver wounds.

Ebonysong used Rear-Up-to-slash on snake. Attack was... Night Finesse is active!

Mistypaw winced as blood oozed from the two puncture wounds that were high on his front leg, blood staining the dark gray fur.

"I can still fight," He muttered, watching the snake's movements. Ebonysong had missed her own attack, and Mistypaw's eyes narrowed.

Ebonysong had told him to stay behind her and not draw attention, but the snake darted in for another strike, this time at the warrior. While the snake was focused on Ebonysong, Mistypaw chose to dart behind the snake instead. He snapped for the snake's tail, hoping that he could yank it backwards and actually do some damage in the process.

Mistypaw sank his teeth into the soft scales, and he forcefully yanked the snake backwards. For the moment at least, the snake seemed stunned, moving sluggishly.

Snake used Serpent Strike for -10sp, dealing -10 damage to Ebonysong.

Mistypaw used Tail Yank on snake for -10sp dealing -2 damage.
