With Loonpaw and Wisteriabloom by her side, Ivystar padded into the small clearing surrounded by beech trees with a bit of reluctancy. She was ready to get back to the river, but nobody really knew when that would be an option. The fluffy she-cat knew that it would be better to teach Loonpaw to fish when the river was back to normal, but that didn't make the constant trips to the thicket of beech trees any less difficult. It felt like moons since she'd been able to swim, and she knew now that was something she'd taken for granted. With a flick of her tail, she motioned for Loonpaw and Wisteriabloom to follow her to the center of the clearing. "We'll be working on hunting land prey today. Wisteriabloom, feel free to branch out and hunt wherever you like- Loonpaw and I will be here working on technique and practicing if you need us." The she-cat turned to her apprentice, fluffy tail waving back and forth gently. "Are you ready to begin?" She mewed, whiskers twitching every now and then.

Wisteriabloom had been pleasantly surprised when she was told she'd be hunting with Ivystar and Loonpaw. Ivystar was, of course, the clan leader, and she had been checking on many of the apprentice's progress recently. Loonpaw, on the other hand, she hadn't really interacted with before. She had befriended his brother Shrikepaw when she was still an apprentice but hadn't had a chance to talk to the young black and white tom. The young warrior acknowledged Ivystar's instructions with a quick nod before turning to go a little deeper into the trees. She still kept close enough to the other two to watch them, however, trying to get pointers on the best way to teach Lilypaw. The she-cat's training was going smoothly, but Wisteriabloom felt as if she still needed all the help she could get.

Her mind on hunting at last, she breathed in deeply to try and find some prey. Mouse. The scent was coming from a small bush nearby, quickly followed by a rustle of branches and leaves. She dropped into a hunter's crouch and slowly crept towards it. At last it dashed out from its hiding place, and the tabby she-cat pounced on it. It managed to wriggle out her paws and fled to safety in the roots of a tree, and Wisteriabloom cursed it under her breath. The recent change in the river had meant most of her hunting had been on land in the past moon, but she was still much more comfortable in catch fish than prey on land.

The soft, malleable ground interspersed with streams that was customary of RiverClan's land was toughening under Loonpaw's pads. He rolled over them with ease, ever mindful of rocks, twigs, and grass that lay underfoot, following the thick plume of Ivystar's tail. His mentor was quiet, but in her silence she was divinely noble, and Loonpaw saw her as no less than an agent of StarClan itself. He had admiration for her. He had admiration for many cats... but especially Ivystar. Wisteriabloom was a clanmate that piqued his interest, as well. Her name rang out like a swan's song, and she carried herself with pride that he did not fully understand. Loonpaw had no pride, and he had no shame. One could not exist without the other, and he had neither. Thus, she fascinated him.

Upon their arrival at the bundle of trees, Loonpaw took quick notice at the hard ground, and the thick, bending roots that clawed up to the surface of it. The beeches were broad-trunked, the branches extended in a wide berth, touching to the tree beside them in gentle greeting. Ivystar explained to him the objective of the training session, and he nodded politely in return. "What do I do if I catch one?"

"We'll create a small pile of our own here to take back to camp when we're done." She mewed in response to Loonpaw, watching quietly as Wisteriabloom disappeared into the trees. The she-cat made a note to listen out for her- Wisteriabloom was a capable warrior, but she doubted she'd be able to fight off a badger or dog by herself in the event that she ran into one. She shifted her focus back onto Loonpaw and thought back to the many apprentices she'd trained before. She figured the best place to start with him would be teaching him to crouch. She tensed her muscles and padded next to him, fluffy tail swaying slightly with the breeze. "We'll start off by learning the proper form for hunting, and then, if you're ready, you can practice on some real prey." Without much of a pause, she dropped into the hunting crouch, which she'd all but perfected over many moons. "I want you to drop as low to the ground as you can without pushing your belly into the dirt. Stay alert and ready to pounce. Your tail should stay in line with the rest of your body to help you balance. Try it." She mewed, maintaining her stance as she watched the young tom.

A little bitter at her bad luck at hunting recently, Wisteriabloom continued to search for more land prey, no matter how much it seemed to not want to get caught. Soon a sound of a toad's call caught her attention and she pricked up her ears. Yes, more prey! She travelled towards the sound, even deeper into the trees until she spotted it on a large boulder. Making sure she was downwind, she dropped into a hunting crouch and crept towards it. Once she was sure it was close enough, she prepared to pounce. She lay in wait, pressed against the ground in a hunting crouch and then pounced.

Wisteriabloom used 3 SP to catch a toad. Catch was successful!

Her paws landed neatly on the fat toad and she killed it with a nip. Now she had prey to bring back, something to add to the fresh-kill pile. After picking it up in her mouth she trotted back to the clearing where her leader was teaching Loonpaw the basics of hunting. She had strayed much further than she had previously realised, but it was still worth carrying her prey to add to their group's future pile.
