Bright sun among Ebony trees

Brightpaw had been bored of hanging around camp with the other apprentices, but after her encounter with Twig a few sunrises earlier, thought it wouldn't be best to go wandering around by herself. She might as well make herself useful, so she slowly stood from where she had been lying in the shade, and padded over to the warrior's den. Maybe Ebonysong would be up for a hunt. The dark grey warrior was really her only friend apart from her brother, but he was out training with his mentor. So Ebonysong it would be.

"Ebonysong? Do you want to go hunting?" she called to her friend. She hoped she wasn't out on patrol, but she hadn't seen her leave camp that morning, from where she'd sat surveying the area, with nothing better to do.

Ebonysong stirred as someone called her name, having fell asleep in the warrior’s den after a long day of warrior duties. Her icy-blue eyes adjusted to the light and she spotted a slightly familiar face. ”Oh! Hello, Brightpaw. I would love to go out to hunt. Didn’t you need to hunt with your mentor, though?” The warrior cleaned her pelt rapidly, before padding out of the den and facing towards the camp entrance. ”The heat is horrible at this time of greenleaf. We can eat some fresh-kill and drink some water from the nearby stream if you want.”

"I'm not really hungry, but a drink might be a good idea," she replied.

As they made their way out of camp, them passed a small stream and Brightpaw briefly paused to drink. Luckily, water meant prey, especially in this heat. Stopping to scent for any prey, she caught a whiff of shrew and not long after, spotted it trying to pull an earthworm out of the ground of the river bank. She dropped into a hunting crouch and carefully stalked it forwards, remembering to keep her tail low to the ground. Waiting to make sure it was completely distracted by its prey, she pounced.
Her paws slammed down onto the shrew and she quickly killed it, picking it up in her mouth to find somewhere to burry it. She chose a small hollow nestled in the roots of a pine tree, and kicked dirt over her catch. Turning back to Ebonysong, she quickly licked her paws clean, watching to see her friend hunt.
