A lost kit (closed)

Wolfkit opened her eyes to see a forest around her. She didn't know how she got there, but she knew it wasn't home. Where's the warm milk? Where's the warm fur of her mother? She did know it was warm, very warm. Wolfkit did not like this heat, because it made her fur hot and uncomfortable. Wolfkit stood up on wobbly legs and began searching for water, but her efforts were fruitless. Wolfkit, desperate in her need of water, tried to get water from the soil but everything was dry thanks to the heat. She then gave up hope and curled up under a bush, hoping her gray fur would hide her from predators.

Rosepaw was on a hunting patrol with Cherryblossom, a warrior she had not interacted a lot before. So far, everything was going quite well. They had managed to catch a few pieces of prey, and the rosy-brown and white tabby she-cat had set her eyes on a mouse. As she drew closer and closer towards it, Rosepaw pounced, trapping it beneath her. Killing it with one final bite, Rosepaw dug a hole in the dirt and buried her catch well. “Cherryblossom, did you get any—“ A soft rustle of leaves interrupted her, and Rosepaw frowned, bracing herself for an incoming predator. Scanning the forest with her light honey-brown eyes, the apprentice stood attentive and listening, before moving her eyes towards the undergrowth. There, underneath the bush, she found something...a gray ball of fur. Eyes wide with curiosity, Rosepaw slowly but carefully stepped closer to the bundle of fur. “Uh...Cherryblossom? What’s this?”

Rosepaw used 3 SP to catch a mouse. Catch was...successful!

As the heatwave bore down on the forest territories with its unrelenting might, Cherryblossom was quite thankful to have such a light-colored pelt that shed the heat more easily than her darker-pelted Clanmates. That combined with the thick shade that the trees provided, led to the heat being relatively bearable for the little tabby, though she had to resist the urge to shake out her pelt every now and again, lest she scare off any prey. She'd gone on a smaller hunting patrol with only Rosepaw to accompany her, and when the pair had gotten far enough away from the camp, Cherryblossom began her search for prey.

Crouching down, the scent of mouse hit her nose, but before she could track her prey further, Rosepaw's voice broke through her concentration, voice tinged with a note of urgency. The tan tabby scrambled to her paws and trotted over to the apprentice, slowing to a stop beside her, the questions dying on her tongue as she looked down to see a little scrap of gray fur curled up underneath the bush. Cat scent hit her tongue as she leaned down to examine more closely, and her eyes widened as she turned back to Rosepaw.
"This is a kit! What's she doing alone in the forest?"

Turning back to the kit and taking another deep breath, the warrior couldn't detect any trace of Clan scent. She flicked her tail as she leaned down to get another look at the kit. She then spoke to the kit, softly and reassuringly.
"Hello? Are you okay? Are you lost?"

Wolfkit looked up at a beautiful pale tabby she-cat with lovely green eyes. Wolfkits initial reaction was alarm but it quickly vanished when she processed the cats kind tone. The new cat didn't smell aggressive so she decided she was okay. "Hello," she croaked, for her throat was incredibly dry. "I don't know where I am. Who are you? Can you help me?"

Rosepaw shuffled closer as Cherryblossom examined the hopefully not-wounded kit. “Huh, she looks really thin...Cherryblossom, do you think we should take her back to camp? The queens can take care of her. Don’t worry, you’re safe. You’re in ThunderClan territory and yes we can help you. I’m Rosepaw, this is Cherryblossom.” The rose-brown and white tabby apprentice greeted the tiny gray kit warmly, pointing to her and Cherryblossom in greeting. “How long have you been out here? It’s not normal for a kit to be wandering Clan territory.” Rosepaw exchanged concerned looks with the gray tabby warrior.

A younger cat, one wolfkit had not noticed before, introduced them warmly. She learned the cats names were cherryblossom and Rosepaw. Wolfkit smiled. These cats talked to her in a way that made her feel safe, something her mother had never given her. Something Rosepaw said caught Wolfkits attention. Clan territory? Was this Windclan? Her mother talked about the clans sometimes. But this wasn't Windclan, it was too closed-spaced for the Windclan cats who liked to run. Now that she thought about it, she didn't like it here. It wasn't as open as home, where she liked to run, pretending she was a Windclan cat. "Where am I? I don't know how long I've been here." (I'm sorry if I was supposed to wait for peridot to go first. It seemed as if wolfkit needed to answer. I've never done this before.)

A warm smile crossed Cherryblossom's face as Rosepaw introduced them to the kit before them, and when the kit expressed confusion about the Clans and where she was, the little tabby didn't hesitate to elaborate on the subject. However, Rosepaw's question didn't have an immediate answer.
"Yes, you're safe now, we'll make sure of that. We're in ThunderClan territory. Though, do you have a home? Or a family?"

Rosepaw bent down, before looking at the little gray kit. “Would it be okay if I...uh, try to find your scent?” The poor kit was definitely from around Clan territory somewhere, and she wouldn’t have run away far enough. “Uhm...my mentor hasn’t really...taught me a lot about scents. Cherryblossom...?” Rosepaw shifted her paws in embarrassment. What am I doing? This kit needs help and I’m pushing all responsibilities to another cat? Stupid, stupid, stupid.

Cherryblossom shared with Wolfkit that this was Thunderclan territory. Hearing the word Thunderclan she realized Rosepaw had already said that. Wolfkit felt embarrassed, having asked for information she already knew. Rosepaw then crouched down towards Wolfkit. This made her feel uncomfortable, especially when Rosepaw asked a strange question Wolfkit wasn't sure how to answer. She kneaded her tail in embarrassment. "S-sure," she replied to Rosepaw awkwardly.

As the kit grew more confused, Cherryblossom tried to figure out the best course of action, and the best way to explain. Even in the shade, the little tabby could feel the heat blanketing the forest, and knew that a kit this small had to be brought back somewhere safe for care soon.
"How about we bring you back to camp now, and if you have a family, we can find them and bring you back to them. Otherwise, if we can't find your family, you can stay with us. How does that sound?"

Rosepaw nodded at Cherryblossom. “That seems like a good idea! What do you say, little kit? Do you want to come with us?” She smiled at the seemingly thin and malnourished kit, wondering how she survived so long by herself. She’s lucky a predator didn’t come after her... Rosepaw shuddered at the thought, wondering what would have happened if Cherryblossom and herself hadn’t come here earlier. Anything could have happened. Thank StarClan she hid somewhere safer.

Wolfkit was quick to accept. She knew she could trust Rosepaw and Cherryblossom. And the sound of other cats to meet and become friends with sounded great. She wasn't afraid of getting attached because she didn't miss her mother. Wolfkit did not want to go back. She wasn't going to tell her new friends about her origin because she wanted to forget about it as soon as possible. I'm here for a reason. And it's to make friends. She also needed water and shelter, otherwise she would die and she knew that. So there wasn't much of a choice. "I'd be delighted."

With a smile, Cherryblossom stood as the kit agreed to come with them. For a moment, she considered picking the kit up to carry her back, but she wanted to give her the choice first.
"It's a pretty long walk back to camp. Would you like me to carry you?"

Wolfkit was getting hotter and she was incredibly tired. "Yes I'd like that very much."
