Prodding his apprentice's side with a large paw a few times, Sunflower began to back up and made his way out of the apprentice den. The sun rose high into the sky above and today, the two of them would practice sparring skills. He wasn't keen on battling, nor was he very good at it, but unfortunately for him, it was his duty.
Smokepaw stirred at the prodding of someone's paw into her side, cutting off her grumble of annoyance at being woken up when she realized just who was prodding her awake. Recognizing her mentor, the fluffy she-cat carefully pushed her way out of the den following Sunflower.
The sun was already high in the sky, and Smokepaw blinked, eyes adjusting to the brightness outside of the den. The days had grown hotter, too. Stupid greenleaf. "What are we doing today?" She asked, glancing up at Sunflower. She figured the skittish tom would probably just take her hunting again. She'd done a decent job with Bloodpaw against that stupid goose (and the looks they'd received from their clanmates when they brought it back to camp had been delightful) but Smokepaw knew she needed to practice her fighting skills more. Would Sunflower ever do more battle training with her? It felt like they only really did hunting, when Smokepaw wasn't avoiding her clanmate by volunteering for literally anything else. It wasn't his fault, really. Sunflowerr was a perfectly nice cat, but Smokepaw hadn't envisioned her training going quite like it had to this point. Perhaps her impatience to do more was obvious, but Smokepaw hated being idle, and that's what things had felt like, recently.
"We're g-going to sp-spar," the soft voiced warrior mewed as the two of them made their way out of camp and into the forest. Great StarClan would he look like a fool to here once more... but it wasn't like he had much of a choice, seeing as though she was his apprentice and needed to learn how to battle. Hopefully, he'd be able to at least teach her something.
They were going to spar? Smokepaw's eyes flicked to her mentor as she followed him out into the forest. She'd been shaken after the goose, not having had much training in fighting previously. She supposed now was as good a time as any to spar. Smokepaw could tell from his body language that Sunflower wasn't particularly enthused, but he was her mentor. He had to teach her at some point.
Eventually they stopped in a small clearing. This would do, Smokepaw thought. Now, how were they going to start? Sunflower was a fair bit larger than his apprentice, and would naturally be much stronger. That meant she would have to rely on catching him off-guard.
Smokepaw leapt for her mentor, being careful to keep her claws sheathed as she aimed herself squarely at his back.
Smokepaw used Leap-and-Hold on Sunflower, dealing 6 damage for 10sp.
Smokepaw 20 / 20hp 70 / 80sp
Sunflower: 94 / 100hp (-6hp) 280 / 280sp
Leap and hold effect dice: 1, 2, 3, works for one turn. 4, 5, 6, works for two turns. -Rolled 6, Sunflower is pinned for 2 turns
Before he was able to say anything or even prepare himself to start, Smokepaw had launched herself at him and barreling him over, his apprentice had pinned him down within a matter of seconds. Had he been paying attention and not worrying so much about sparring, he might've had the upper paw, but as if luck was ever on his side.
Letting out a meow of surprise, the warrior struggled under Smokepaw's weight, unable to get up.
((sorry this is lacking in any real substance x.x))
Smokepaw herself struggled a bit as her mentor attempted to get up. How was he even pinned so easily? Wasn't he supposed to be the strong warrior? Most of Smokepaw's weight was fur, or at least she thought most of it was fur. It certainly felt like it on warmer days. Still, her sheathed fore-paws battered at the flame-pointed tom a bit more before Smokefeather would ease up.
Sunflower: -pinned for one more turn- HP: 88/100 (94 - 6) SP: 280/280
Using all of his strength, Sunflower rolled over onto his back and using his paws to push himself up, he threw Smokepaw off. Giving his pelt a shake, his abnormally long legs trembling, he waited for his apprentice's next move.
Sunflower used Duck and Twist, causing 5 damage and costing 25 stamina.
