cruelty before mercy [closed]

A recent shower had left the SkyClan forest muddy, wet, and slippery. As Redfall trudged through said mud, he couldn't help but feel bad for ShadowClan cats who had to bear this all day - or, night, rather. Although, for some reason, they enjoyed it. The ginger tabby reached a tree stump and clambered onto it, grateful for a reprieve from struggling through the ground. He shook the mud from his paws, grooming the space in between his claws to get them clean. Redfall lifted his broad head up, studying the terrain around him. Tree hunting was just about the only thing he could do in this weather. With that thought in mind, he leapt up to the nearest branch of a sturdy tree, powerful legs pushing off of the stump with ease. His claws grasped the branch, showering grit on the ground below. Redfall glanced around, ears pricked for the slightest trace of movement. His green eyes narrowed, pinpointing a scrawny blackbird.

The ginger warrior began to creep up on the bird, leaping from tree to tree with ease, barely rustling the branches as he tiptoed closer and closer towards the bird. And then the wind shifted. Suddenly, Redfall's scent was swept towards the blackbird in the wind, and it looked up, beady eyes glittering with alarm. It took off from its branch, soaring away to another tree, much farther away. Redfall's annoyed sigh sounded more like a growl as he glared at the bird. He wouldn't be able to get it. Whatever. It was scrawny anyway.

Maybe he'd get better luck with water voles or something near the Moonlit Creek. Redfall glanced downwards, prepared to drop from the branch, when a scrap of brown fur caught his eye. It was connected to a small cat - small from kit-fluff or just small in general, the warrior couldn't tell and couldn't care less. He skidded halfway down the tree and sprang from the trunk, front paws pinning this tiny rogue down on both shoulders. Whiskers quivering in adrenaline, Redfall drew his head back, snarling to display a large row of scraggly teeth. "What're you doing? This is SkyClan territory, kit."

"Who you callin 'kit'?" Twig hissed, squirming around in the big warrior's grasp.

Redfall could see clearer now, and it really was a kit. He removed his paws and hissed, fluffing his fur up and crouching down. It was more of an intimidation technique than anything else - he doubted a kit could hurt him. The ginger tabby reared up to his full height and aimed a frenzy of blows at the brown kitten, claws unsheathed. He didn't care Twig was only a kit. He cared that she was an intruder on his territory, and only that. "I'm calling you a kit," he spat, "kit."

"You won't be sayin that after this battle, no matter who wins!" She meowed, sliding under the warrior and scratching his soft underbelly. "Clan cats! Always attackin anything and everything on their territory!" She said, standing back up.

Redfall showed his teeth as the kit spoke back. "Oh really? Let's see about that." He glanced downwards as the tiny tabby wiggled beneath him. Although her claws were sharp, they were still small, and he wasn't hurt by them as much as he would be if an older cat had used the move. Still, he was annoyed, and decided not to hold back. If the kit didn't want to be hurt, she shouldn't have attacked him, she should've run. He'd make her see that soon enough. He sucked in a breath to retort to her sass first. "You'd understand our values if you were a Clan cat, but you're too young to understand, and an outsider. You're also too young to win this fight, just wait and see." The ginger warrior leapt on top of the kit, collapsing her with ease, claws unsheathed and raking her shoulder fur, digging deep into her skin to draw scarlet streams of blood. Redfall only felt the tiniest amount of guilt for the rush of slightly sadistic delight it brought him to see the flesh tear under his claws.

"Too young?! Tell that to a kit of your 'clan,' would ya? I'm old enough to understand as well as any clan kit!" She spat in his face. She didn't squirm around this time, just squealed a few times at the pain. Why was this guy so mean? If he had just let her get away and not have teased her, none of this would have happened!

"Not how it works. Clan cats, including Clan kits, have a code. You wouldn't understand, since you're just a dirty little rogue. That's all you'll ever be." Redfall rolled off of the kitten and reared up on his hind legs, balancing with his tail. He slammed his two front paws down hard onto Twig's small head, watching as it thwacked against the muddy ground. "Now get out. I don't want to see you again."

Twig felt her head slam against the ground as everything went dark. She got knocked out... Mud covered her already brown body like a blanket. The kit breathed heavily, in a deep sleep.
