Greenleaf was beginning to dominate the moor. The sparse trees were full of thick green leaves, floating among the dancing breeze that rippled through the sky. Waving golden stalks were beginning to die off, one by one, and there were a few greenish clumps of tall grass here and there. Fragrant flowers were beginning to wither, but a few were still standing strong, proud green stems holding firm against the rising warmth, purple petals littering the ground here and there. The sky was a deep blue, dotted with clouds here and there. Rock formations rose out of the hills, outlined in the dazzling golden sun. Their shadows cast long, painted patterns across the hills. Undoubtedly, the moor was a beautiful place. Yet Wildflower didn't see a single bit of it.

The young warrior stood at the camp entrance for a moment more, then wheeled around, walking with purpose towards the warriors' den. Ah, yes, her den. It seemed she'd never get used to the idea of being a warrior. Shaking her head, Wildflower leaned into her den, maneuvering her way towards Smallbean. Another thing she hadn't gotten used to-- patrols. Olivestone had assigned her to go with Smallbean and Heatherpaw on a hunt. Good training for Heatherpaw. Wildflower enjoyed the company of kits and apprentices. She was hardly more than one herself. Thinking about it, being a mentor seemed to have pros and cons, but the good outweighing the bad. It was a lot of responsibility, but young cats were eager to learn (most of the time), and it showed that the deputy thought enough of you to give you that responsibility.

With a decisive shake of her head, Wildflower laid her tail on her father's flank. She couldn't tell if he was asleep her not, but it was almost sunhigh, so he shouldn't have been. Perhaps he'd gone on a dawn patrol, or something of the sort. She leaned closer, in a quiet voice, whispering, "Hey, Dad? I don't know if you know, but Olivestone assigned you, me, and Heatherpaw to go out on a hunting patrol." With nothing else to say, she trotted towards the her den - no, her old den, she reminded herself - and peeked inside, nose finding the scent of Heatherpaw. She repeated the message. "Heatherpaw? Whenever you're ready, it's time for a patrol with Smallbean and I."

At the slight sound of a whisper, Smallbean practically jumped awake, being pulled away from the drams he'd much rather go back to. With heavy breaths he pulled his head from his nest, looking around for who had woken him. He wasn't upset, as he had been sleeping very lightly recently so almost anything woke him up, he just wanted to know who the culprit was. He looked at the entrance to the warriors den to see the tail tip of a pale warrior exit. "Wild...flower?" He guessed, his voice barely a whisper. He stretched his aching limbs and picked himself up, shaking his fluffy fur t rid it of any moss that stuck to it. The small warrior then exited the warrior den and saw Wildflower exiting the apprentices den. "A patrol, then?" He looked to see his own apprentice, Heatherpaw, emerge from the apprentices den and join Wildflower at the camp entrance. Assuming it was a patrol, he walked up to the down and waited for someone to take the lead. He personally didn't like being in charge, he'd much rather leave it to someone who could probably do better.

“Hmm...?” Heatherpaw shifted around, before cracking open one eye to see Wildflower, a warrior she didn’t know very well. “Patrol? Yeah, sure!” Getting onto her paws, Heatherpaw smoothed her tan and cream pointed fur before heading out towards where the other two cats gathered. One was her own mentor, Smallbean, and the other was Wildflower. “Where are we going, then?”

Pleased to see her two Clanmates in a good mood (or at least, not in a bad mood), Wildflower led the way out of camp. In response to Heatherpaw's question, she glanced back and meowed, "The Lone Stump often has prey around. I was thinking we'd head there. Have you been yet?" She was aware Heatherpaw was a relatively new apprentice, and she wasn't sure what Smallbean had and had not done with her yet. Flicking her tail, Wildflower felt her paws pad firmly onto the warm, well-trodden path towards the Stump, and she knew she was going in the right direction.

"I haven't b-been to the lone stump much, especially not since i've had Heatherpaw assigned as my apprentice, s-so the only way she could have b-been there is if she'd gone there with other c-cats." The small warrior followed his daughter out of camp, keeping a short distance behind her. he started to feel a bit anxious as they neared the lone stump. Sure, there was a high chance of them catching prey there, but what if he messed up in front of his first apprentice? What would Heatherpaw think of him? Would she think he was a failure as a mentor? His breathing started to quicken, but he somehow managed to calm himself down. He couldn't have a mental breakdown in front of his daughter and apprentice after all.

In only a few moments they had already arrived at the stump. Keeping his breathing steady, he sniffed the air, surely finding the scent of a rabbit. The tom touched his tail to Wildflower's shoulder to let her know that he was going off to follow a scent trail and gave a curt not to Heatherpaw. He turned away, keeping his steps quiet to prevent scaring off any prey. The scent trail lead him around a bush, and only a few fox-lengths away was the rabbit. He crouched down for a moment before rushing up to the rabbit, finishing it off with a bite to it's neck.

Wildflower smiled slightly at her father as he (from what she could tell) caught the rabbit. Tasting the air hersef, the fresh scent of hare blossomed in front of her, and she crouched down, ears pricked to locate it easily. It was scent that she pinpointed it with, and the ticked warrior crouched down, tail lifted slightly above the ground, and started to pad towards the hare, pawsteps light. The technique was executed not perfectly but well, well enough that she was able to break into a sprint without the little creature noticing. Eventually, she got closer, and the hare's little head perked up with a small squeak of alarm. Tail streaming out behind her, Wildflower pinned the hare firmly between her two paws and bit it on the neck. It twitched once and went limp. Satisfied, the molly lifted it in her jaws and buried it next to the lone stump. She could only hope the rest of the patrol went this well.

Heather paw dropped onto a hunting crouch, copying Wildflower before slowly padding forward and smelling the air. Rabbit... Heatherpaw loved rabbits, even though they were slightly harder to catch. Grinning as she saw one sniffing at the grass, Heatherpaw started padding forward slowly, her golden brown eyes slight. When she reached a good few mouse tails away, Heatherpaw pounced, trapping the rabbit beneath her paws. It panicked, trying to leap away, but before it could run, Heatherpaw bit its neck, and it fell limp in her jaws. Smiling proudly, she carried the rabbit back towards Wildflower and Smallbean. “Did I do good?”

Heatherpaw used 3SP to hunt a rabbit. Catch was successful.

The small tom look over at his apprentice as she returned, a rabbit held in her jaws. "That's a g-great catch!" A smile spread across his face. Perhaps he shouldn't worry so much about mentoring. It seemed as though Heatherpaw was doing just fine. With a sigh and a slick of his tail, he was off again, this time in pursuit of a robin. He'd seen it land nearby a few moment ago, hoping that it was somewhere near enough for him to catch. Much to his luck, the robin was pretty close to where he previously was. The bird was digging it's beak into the dirt, probably searching for grubs. He stealthily slid into a crouch, like he had done previously, and stalked the bird. After taking a deep breath, he rushed up to the Robin, grabbing it in mid-air as it attempted to escape. He skillfully smack it back down to the ground, ending it's life with a bite to it's neck.
