Boulderkit Exploring

The morning was quiet, the sun was bright. The gentle song of birds floated through the brambles of the nursery's walls as rays of golden sunshine pierced through whatever crack could be found. Among the moss nests and slumbering bodies, a small form stirred awake beside his mother. His front legs reached out in a stretch, paws extended to the air, while he rolled onto his back and mewed a tiny yawn; this revealed his tiny, sharp white teeth and little pink tongue. The kit was young, almost four weeks old. His round blue eyes had opened about a week after birth, but his momma said that they would probably change color as he grew out of kithood. About a week ago, this little tom kit had begun to walk; he was clumsy at first, and could barely go a step in any direction, but now he had this whole walking thing down easily.

With a bit of effort, the kit rolled onto his stomach and got his little paws under him, then pushed on the soft ground beneath him until he was standing. The tom then gave himself a shake to release the moss stuck on his short, fuzzy blue fur. After suckling for breakfast, his mother gave him a quick bath and then urged him out of the nursery with her muzzle. "Go on, Boulderkit. Socialize, make some friends, meet other cats. Don't worry, I'll be watching from here. Go on." So that is exactly what Boulderkit did. Quietly, he pawed out of the nursery and into the bustling camp before him.

Ravenmist relaxed in the sunshine, enjoying the warmth on her fur. She had felt at peace for once, since the battle. Bad things had happened, but the good outweighed the bad, and she had reunited with her father. It also opened her eyes, metaphorically, to the fact that Flintstar wouldn’t live forever. Every cat died, and if her leader’s time came before her own, she had to prepare herself to carry on afterwards. The blind deputy simply prayed it wouldn’t be soon. She yawned, before her attention was grabbed by the sounds of a kit leaving the nursery.

By his scent she identified him as Boulderkit, and gave out a friendly mew. “Hey, kitten! First time out?” The scarred molly flicked her tail, inviting him to come over.

Boulderkit's ears twitched as he heard a friendly, near-by voice calling to him. The little grey tom turned his head to follow the sound and his baby blue gaze settled upon a scarred black and white molly. With his head ducked in unsurety, the tom kit cautiously approached the massive cat before him, or at least to little kit she was massive. He silently sat down in front of Ravenmist and nodded his head in response to her question. Then, he quickly glanced up at her face and was struck by the clouded look in her eyes and the fact that they weren't looking right at him, as he was used to. Boulderkit cowered backwards, confused by the friendliness coming from what to him was a scary cat. "Y-yes," he squealed timidly with a gulp.
