Blizzardkit's Apprentice Ceremony

“Let all cats old enough to catch their own prey gather beneath Highrock for a clan meeting!”

Nettlefire once again took her place on the Highrock. Yet another kit was ready to join the apprentices. A light breeze was stirring, lightly ruffling her gray fur. She blinked against the feeling of the soft, cool air on her face, her green gaze evenly searching the crowd.

"Oh wow, I'm an apprentice now!" Blizzardkit whispered to himself excitedly, as he hustled towards the bottom of the Highrock. As he approached to the crowd, his head, again was crowded by thoughts: What do I do after I become an apprentice? Who's going to be my mentor? Is she/he nice? Ugh... He took a deep breath, and told himself to stay focused on the ceremony.

"Blizzardkit, please take a step forward,"

Nettlefire waited for him to do so.

"Blizzardkit, you've reached the age of six moons and are ready to become an apprentice. From this day forward, until you earn your warrior name, you will be known as Blizzardpaw. Your mentor will be Rainstrike,"

The deputy smiled a little. She wasn't always the most cheerful cat, but she always felt happy seeing the excitement  these kits had for their apprentice ceremonies.

Blizzardkit was so nervous, he took a step forward, went onto the Highrock. He was so shaky, and nearly fell of.

Rainstrike had been near the back of the gathered cats, and at the sound of her name, blinked several times. What? She had another apprentice? Instantly she was torn between reluctance and excitement - the idea of being responsible for yet another young cat's training and protection was daunting... she'd barely brought herself to be able to mentor Cedarpaw, at Ferretnose's gentle reassurance.

But on the other hand, she was excited. Despite herself, she very much enjoyed spending time with Cedarpaw... being surrounded by unbiased innocence was refreshing in a way she couldn't explain.

Meeting Nettlefire's eyes for a split second, Rainstrike stood, then padded over to her new apprentice and reached down to touch noses with him.
