Midnight Struggles [Solo]

Bonewatcher walked through the territory with a calm pace. It was late at night, but he didn’t mind. Even if he lacked the incredible night vision ShadowClan cats had, he knew the territory so well, he could walk through it with his eyes closed…for the most part, at least.

It had been a good while since he had last gone in one of these walks, and he had found out that the forest had changed a bit on that time. So even if he knew most of the forest still, as well as its many major landmarks and such, he was also discovering several new things…something he was always interested in.

And that was probably the very reason he didn’t realized that with changes and time, also new dangers could be found in places that were previously completely safe to walk through without a care.

Only the sublet whistle of the wing alerted him of the presence of its silent adversary, giving him just enough time to move to the side and avoid what otherwise could’ve been a death sentence…or at least a nasty scar. He still couldn’t help but hiss at the burning feeling of sharp talons cutting his skin and drawing blood, though.

With an aggravated hoot, the owl turned around, its surprise attack ruined, but refusing to leave with empty talons in this harsh season of the year.

Bonewarcher steadied himself, eyes narrowed as he waited. He knew he was going to have to take the next attack for his strategy to work, but he didn’t mind. It would be a minor price to pay on his eyes. He bared his long fangs as he felt the pain from the talons of the owl once more digging into him, but took the chance to react and snag one of the talons of the big bird, pulling it down to the ground and pummeling its head to keep it from flying off again.

Bonewatcher kept a tight hold on the owl as it trashed and squirmed, hissing and spitting as he tried to subdue it. His mind racing as he tried to decide what he was going to do next. He couldn’t help but let out a loud hiss as he was finally thrown off by the injured bird.

He panted heavily as he looked the bird take flight and rush away as quickly as its thorn feathers allowed it to, probably not realizing how close it was to win the fight against the black and white tom, too scared for its own life…and Bonewatcher couldn’t say he cared.

After recovering his breath, he got up and slowly went back to the clan’s camp, still feeling the stinging pain from the slashes the owl’s claws had caused over his body. So much for a nice midnight walk…
