Wolfkit's Apprentice Ceremony

Nettlefire took her place on the Highrock once more. Light caught on her long, gray fur and on the scars littering her backside as she briefly surveyed the camp before beginning her announcement.

“Let all cats old enough to catch their own prey gather beneath the Highrock for a clan meeting!”

She smiled an ambivalent little smile, her emotions mixed. She was starting to get used to her new position, to hearing her own voice ring out across the camp, and yet it was all still so odd.

Now, she just had to wait for the appearance of the kit who was to become an apprentice today.

Daisypaw padded out of the den. Maybe it would be her younger brother, Wolfkit ceremony today. She watched Nettlefire, waiting to see what would happen.

Wolfkit padded outside the nursery with his fluffy fur all groomed and a smirk on his face. Unlike the other kits he didn’t play, he was too busy training to be the best apprentice. Wolfkit sat down near his sister and looked up at nettlefire.

Daisypaw smiled at the odd little kit. He was certainly going to be an interesting apprentice for whatever warrior ended up mentoring him. She watched Nettlefire, watching and waiting for her next move.

Nettlefire watched as Wolfkit entered the scene, and noticed as he chose a spot to settle down that Daisypaw was near him. Both cats were among Nettlefire's younger siblings. A brief note of melancholy struck her as she wished once again that she could have kits of her own. But it was okay-- for now she was content with her role as an older sister, and, of course, as deputy of the clan.

"Wolfkit," she called out, "Please take a step forward,"

She waited for the young tom to do so.

"Wolfkit, you have reached the age of six moons, and are now ready to become an apprentice. From this day forth, until you receive your warrior name, you will be known as Wolfpaw. Your mentor will be Dustcloud. I know, of course, she'll do a fantastic job at guiding you along the way to warriorhood,"

Nettlefire smiled at both of her younger siblings, and searched the crowd for her mother's familiar pelt.

Daisypaw smiled as her younger brother was appointed as their mother’s apprentice. She would be a great help to the young tom-she was sure of it. She smiled at him and gave him a happy little nuzzle. ”See you around, Wolfpaw” She emphasizes his new name.

Wolfpaw nuzzled his sister then went to his mother. He gently touched noses with Dustcloud. “I will be a good apprentice to you.” he said confidently.
