| Thornstar stared down at the dwindling fresh kill pile with a flick of her tail. It seemed as if prey was already beginning to run scarce. They were only just now heading into Leafbare and already she could feel the faint pangs of hunger setting in.
This was her third Leafbare.
She knew she'd adjust to the lack of prey soon enough, but she worried for the kits and apprentices. Many of them had yet to experience the ruthlessly bitter chill they'd soon be faced with. The war had come and gone, and those injured by the battle would be weakened with hunger if they didn't double up their hunting efforts.
With that in mind, Thornstar set off to locate two cats in particular.
Luckily it didn't take her long. She ran across them in Mothglow's den. She watched for only a moment as Mothglow babbled to the tom about how his leg was healing before interrupting.

| Flintshard's freedom had been short lived - it seemed being named deputy had resparked Mothglow's interest in keep an eye on him and now she was even more determined to make sure his leg healed fine. He laid sprawled out in the nest that he had claimed as his own during his stay in her den, his scarred leg stretched out to let the medicine cat poke and prod at it while his chin rested on his other leg. He listened dutifully to her ramblings...If only because it seemed impossible to ignore her, his focus seemingly trained on whatever sounds caught his ear. His eyes were closed as he simply let the medicine cat tend to her duty, hearing the sound of approaching paws but hadn't bothered to open his eyes until the familiar voice of his mother spoke up. The sight of the leader caused him ease as he straightened up, sitting a bit awkwardly as he didn't want to retract his leg until Mothglow was done looking it over. "Of course," he meowed with a nod, perhaps a little relieved to have a chance to get out into the territory. | "We have more than enough twigs," Mothglow replied good-naturedly. "It's herbs we could use more of. But it's definitely a good idea to stock up some more. I don't want to have to inconvenience any of the other medicine cats by requesting any of theirs until there's no other choice," she added. She considered each of the other medicine cats a friend in their own right, but they had clans to provide healing for just like her. "Besides, I can still hunt living prey perfectly fine!"
One of the things that saddened her about the creeping chill was, admittedly, that she'd need to spend more time gathering herbs than before.
