Sibling rivalry? Not this time...

Oakkit woke up, poking her head outside the nursery, her tail twitching slightly. Her eyes flitted over the camp, a playful glint in them. She wasn't sure if her brother, Timberkit, was awake yet, but she wasn't going to wake him up if he wasn't. She had plans and she was going to do them with or without him. The warriors and everyone had been busy with the war with Shadowclan, so it gave the kits more freedom than normal to get away with mischief. Today though, she was actually going to attempt to explore outside the camp. She'd been itching to see new things, and now would definitely be the time to try.

She didn't realize as her paws started kneading the ground beneath her in anticipation for darting to the entrance that her eyes were now resting on. No other cats were around to stop her if she was successful. And it was still just dark enough that her brown fur would make her hard to see.

As soon as Oakkit's warmth left his side, Timberkit was awake. His green eyes blinked at her retreating form, and he yawned, teeth flashing white in the gloom of the nursery. Climbing out of the warm nest, and careful not to wake his mother, Timberkit slunk over to stand beside his sister, tail brushing her haunches in greeting. Following her gaze, Timberkit offered a quiet, questioning purr. Were they going to go outside the camp? They'd talked about it before (in hushed whispers of course) but the opportunity had never presented itself.

The opportunity was clear now, though, and Timberkit stilled, eyes on the entrance, as he waited to see if his sister would initiate their escapades.

Oakkit looked at her brother, giving him a confident quiet purr with a simple nod of her head to him. She looked out once more, looking both ways before she took off at a full sprint across the camp to the entrance. She did look back to make sure her brother was at least on her heels as she did so, after all, she'd never leave her brother behind.

So they were going to go out today! Gleefully, Timberkit trailed after Oakkit's dark brown form - his patches of paler color were slightly more noticeable than her shadowy pelt, but there weren't any warriors around to see them, anyway. Mostly every cat was still asleep, and he figured the dawn patrol had already left, so they had a free and clear path to the entrance.

And they went! The two of them made it undisturbed to the entrance of the camp. Timberkit poked his nose outside for the first time, marveling at how fresh the air smelled. "Where do we go from here?" he asked, keeping his voice as a whisper.

As she got closer and closer to the entrance of the camp she felt like she had fleas in her pelt, up until the moment they were on the outside of the camp and she took a deep breath, smelling all kinds of different and new scents. She let out a purr at Timberkit's question and she took some more steps out, sticking close to the wall of the camp. "Lets just explore," she whispered back with a purr as she started stalking, or at least what she thought was stalking, through the underbrush of Skyclan territory.

Nodding his agreement, Timberkit trailed after his sister, shivering with a mixture of cold and excitement. Without the camp's walls to protect them from the breeze, out here it was much less comfortable, but the invitation of adventure made him push through the discomfort that chilled him to the bone.

Ahead, he noticed a bird, pecking at the ground near the roots of a tree. Nudging his Oakkit with his nose, he used his tail to point at the bird, and then dropped into a poor excuse for a hunting crouch, expecting her to do the same.

Oakkit looked over as Timberkit nudged her with his tail and then pointed at a bird. Instead of getting into a crouch next to him, she started sneaking over to a tree, which she started to climb her way up, then climbing onto the nearest branch. She looked at Timberkit and nodded to him to attempt to catch the bird, but made no verbal sounds, so as to not startle the bird.

One paw ahead of the other, Timberkit crept forward, his mottled pelt blending with the shadows on the ground. His crouch was poor, but he managed to draw closer and closer to the bird - a robin, he saw now, until he was confident enough to leap forward. His paws batted the bird, and his mouth closed on a clump of tailfeathers, but they came away in his mouth as his sheathed paws lost their hold, and the bird fluttered upwards and out of reach.

Oakkit stayed silent as she leaped off the branch as the bird was flying away from her brother and she landed on top of it, using her claws to grip it and she bit into its throat, causing it to go crashing to the ground with her on it. She rolled away as she hit the ground with the bird, which was now dead, and she turned around, her eyes sparkling with excitement. "That, was, FUN!!" she bellowed out excitedly. They were thankfully otu of earshot of the camp when this happened. "Should we share it? I'm actually really hungry!" she says, purring quite loudly.

There was a flicker of doubt in Timberkit's eyes as he stared down at the bird. "The warrior code says the clan eats first," he said dutifully. But his stomach grumbled just then, and the pale kit grimaced. "Well... maybe we can eat this, and then hunt more for the clan!"

He tucked into the bird, taking a huge bite and savoring the flavor of the fresh-kill on his tongue.

Oakkit purred and bit into it as well. "Definitely!" she cried as she dove in to eat with her brother, the deliciousness of actually still warm fresh-kill was the best thing little Oakkit had ever tasted. "Oh my word, this is better than anything we've gotten out of the fresh-kill pile yet!" she cried happily as she continued to eat, looking at her brother happily. There was no one else she would rather be doing something like this with. She had a feeling they were going to be close for life and would hopefully, one day, help Skyclan thrive like never before.

"I want to kill my own prey every time!" Timberkit agreed, tucking into the bird and oblivious to the fact that Oakkit had actually been the one to kill it. In his mind, they'd done it together so that meant equal credit. "Should we try to find something else, or go back home?" He asked after the bird was little more than a scrap of bone and feathers.

She purred, looking at him with a happy glint in her eyes. "Lets hunt for more!" she said happily, as she started stalking along once more, sniffing the air around them, watching to make sure her brother was with her.

"Okay!" Timberkit agreed enthusiastically. He trotted after Oakkit, "When we're apprentices, do you reckon we'll be able to go out like this together, with our mentors?" He tilted his head, pondering who his and Oakkit's mentors could possibly be. He hoped it was a pair of cats that liked going out together, because he didn't know what he'd do if he was never able to train with his sister!
