They'd been walking together for a while now.

They couldn't have been far from the thunderpath, considering the tall grasses that sheltered them from view were beginning to thin out. Pine needles softened their pawsteps, masking any sign of their presence from... well, whatever may be looking for them.

Thornstar's gaze seemed... dull. She was considering something deeply, that much was obvious.

The she-cat had yet to explain what they were doing since she'd invited him on this walk. In fact, all she'd done was gruffly invite Sans to take a stroll with her before turning and making her way towards the camp entrance without so much as a reply from him.

Their pelts blended seamlessly with the long shadows the moonlight cast, making the long silence all the more heavy feeling.

What could she be thinking...?

The tension of their silence was beginning to feel so thick, Sans could cut it with his claws. He looked over at his mate, ShadowClan’s leader, once again taking in her beautifully strong features. Once again taking in her look of deep thoughtfulness. She looked ... troubled. But why? Was she still worried about SkyClan? About the future? If that was the case, he could agree with her. He was worried about what would happen between his Clan and the Clan that had killed Redwing, his brother’s mate.

Perhaps he should let her know she wasn’t the only one struggling with these thoughts.

He pressed his pelt gently against hers in gentle affection. ”Hey, I’m worried, too. But don’t worry, Thorny. With you leading us, we’re sure to be just fine. We’ll make sure SkyClan never kills another one of our Clanmates again. If we end up in a war against them, we’ll win, because we’re ShadowClan, the strongest and most cunning Clan in the forest.”

She shook her head slowly at his words. She wasn't concerned about that in the slightest. Skyclan's debt would be paid, of that she had no doubts.

However...

Something needed to be cleared up, sooner rather than later. Thornstar wasn't the type to put things like this off, but with everything that had happened recently, she couldn't bring herself to say anything yet.

Besides, she'd needed to watch him as a warrior regardless. Undistracted.

But now...

"Did you start something with Skyclan in the past, Sans?"

The question was abrupt, and she didn't look at him as the words slipped from her jaws.

Now to see his reaction.

Taken aback by such a question, Sans’ step faltered. Frog-dung, that must’ve been more than enough indication to Thornstar that something had happened.... He looked away and uncomfortably cleared his throat. ”Uh, sorta.... Scorchstar chastised me for it, though. After Poppyheart went missin’ before the flood, I had been distracted and wandered into SkyClan territory, where I fought an apprentice. I ... I was so blinded by grief that I guess I had lost myself. Heh, Tinystar himself escorted me back to camp for it. I could tell Scorchstar was very embarrassed....”

Looking back over at his mate, he tilted his head questioningly. [color=#1568d0]”Why do ya ask? You ... don’t think I’m plottin’ something against ShadowClan or anything like that, do you? You still know I’m loyal in spite of my ... troublesome decisions in the past?”

A cold stone settled in her stomach at his words and she narrowed her eyes, continuing to look pointedly ahead of them.

"Do you recall their name? What they looked like?"

Thornstar's voice was low, unreadable. She held herself stiffly as they walked, opting to not answer his question. That sounded like him, but she needed more information. She was being careful to shield herself in such a way that he wouldn't be able to read her as easily. The tom was clever, and regardless of how lazy he acted he was sharp. She'd seen him at work, and she didn't like mind games.

At least, not when she was on the receiving end.

"Heh, you sure do like askin' questions, don'tcha?" Sans meowed, trying to dodge hers the same way she had seemed to doge his confession. What exactly was she planning to do with the information she sought? "Well, it happened a long time ago, so I can't really remember her name. What I do remember, though, was she had a marbled pelt, with green eyes. I haven't seen her ever since that feud, so I'm gonna assume she was either punished the way Silent Snows had been, or...." He trailed off. He didn't really like thinking about the death of others, even if it wasn't from a cat of his own Clan. He had faced too much of it in his life, and he knew he would continue being forced to endure its heavy aftermaths.
