Salmonburn's Renaming Ceremony

Having completed what she needed to with his mate, it was now time to turn her attentions to Salmonburn himself. He'd proven himself still quite capable when it came to navigating and hunting within the marshland they called home.

A true Shadowclan cat, regardless of the blood coursing in his veins.

There was a time in which she wouldn't have been able to appreciate that. Turning her gaze to him she nodded subtly.

"Salmonburn, step forward."

Nodding to the tom, she continued. "I'll skip the formalities. You've shown yourself capable of navigating and hunting within the territory despite finishing your training in another clan. Like Cardinalpaw, you're being accepted into Shadowclan's ranks." She narrowed her gaze on the tom. Admittedly she was more partial to him than the loner he'd brought into their clan, but it didn't mean that he didn't have to work to reforge his place in the clan.

"However, there is a price to this. I know your separation from this clan wasn't requested by you, nor was it something you wanted but it did happen. Finding your place in Shadowclan's territory starts by shedding your ties to Riverclan. Are you willing?"

Her gaze flickered with approval at the sureness of his tone. "Good then. From this day forth, by the power invested in me as leader of Shadowclan you will no longer be known as Salmonburn of Riverclan. You are now Scorchedbird of Shadowclan. Take flight in the ashes of all you've left behind and embrace what you've found with burning resolve."

She knew the tom would appreciate the meaning behind the name. Scorchstar was as much a mentor to her as a father to him. Giving the young tom his name was a testament to the faith she was putting in him. Starclan had no part in this, so she spoke no 'ceremonial' words.

She only hoped it would serve the clan well.
