Thornbriar heaved herself to her paws, allowing herself one long stretch before she began to pad towards Jaggedrock. Lately she'd caught sight of Crowkit and Lynxkit playing near the nursery, babbling this and that of being leader as they rolled around on the muddy earth. The sight had been entertaining to say the least, but the frolicking kits had reminded her of a time when life was simpler. The days when she and Soot tussled in almost the exact same way. But the kits weren't just being cute, they were proving their readiness to begin training.

The large she-cat scaled Jaggedrock in what was beginning to become something of a practiced motion. She could tell they were ready.

"Get off your rumps and get over here, rats. It's time for a clan meeting."

The dark-coloured she-cat listened the harsh, yet strong words of the deputy calling for a clan meeting. But, to be honest, she didn't mind that sharp-tongue since she had one too. Her blue eyes looked up to the one-eyed warrior and waited. She was already old enough to become an apprentice and this time, it could finally be her ceremony.

As the clan gathered, Thornbriar watched the two kits in question approach, heads held high. Lately she'd begun to notice that with each new apprentice there was a running pattern. While they were all a bit different, they each seemed to share that same glint in their eye. Something crossed between anticipation, eagerness, and nervousness. The amount of each was different for each kit, but they all seemed to be there in one form or another.

"Crowkit, step forward."

This one was no different.

"You have reached the age of six moons, and it is time for you to begin your training as an apprentice of Shadowclan. Crowkit, from this day on until you receive your warrior name, you shall be known as Crowpaw. Your mentor will be Redwing. I trust she will teach you all she knows."

Nodding to the ginger she-cat that sat not far from Jaggedrock, Thornbriar continued. The she-cat was reliable to say the least. She would make a good mentor for the little she-kit. "Redwing, I believe you are ready to take on an apprentice. You will be the mentor of Crowpaw. I know you'll do well in training her."

Redwing wasn't paying very much attention to the ceremony- she would be ashamed to admit it to anyone, but she'd been a little scatterbrained lately. Everything had been strange in ShadowClan for a while... not only since Scorchstar's many sicknesses, not only since Burntstag's betrayal. Ever since the flood, and her father's death, the Clan had seemed- well, off. And it seemed to be getting smaller every day. Hopefully, the leader would get better, and be able to bring the Clan back together. StarClan knew they needed not only more cats, but more spirit in their Clan. No one seemed to have the life in them these days. Except... maybe, Thornbriar. A slight smile touched the warrior's face as she glanced up at the deputy. Though an unorthodox choice and a brash soul, the she-cat had been a fresh breath of life for the stale, downtrodden Clan. Maybe she could help lead them too.

When her name was mentioned in the ceremony, Redwing was instantly drawn out of her reverie. Oh, guess I should've been paying more attention..... She blinked a little and smiled at the new apprentice she assumed she would be mentoring. It had been quite a while since she'd had one of those. Catching the she-cat's name from the tail end of Thornbriar's voice- Crowpaw- the stocky, dark red warrior bent down to touch her nose to the former kit's nose. "Congratulations, Crowpaw," she meowed with a smile. "I'll begin training you first thing tomorrow."
