Hunting Aftermatch [CLOSED]

The large warrior, though happy for his sister, was still feeling blue about the path Sparkfrost had chosen for his life, leaving the ones who loved him behind. It was just... so selfish yet at the same time, there was nothing else they could do but keep moving on after the death of their father... and try to accomplish what he wanted from them in his lasting moments. Berrycloud looked at Ivybrook when they reached the river and even if he wanted to look cheerful, he just showed up an awkward smile. After all that had happened... he just felt... lost. "Hunting here should be good." He mewed, taking a glance to the younger apprentice by their side.

Redpaw had followed the two warriors since the deputy said so. It was already a huge responsibility to live as the leader's daughter but now... she had to show Ivybrook how much she knew! She had to prove that despite her young age and still growing body, she was capable as any warrior in the clan.

The young she-cat did not share the same sorrow of the two siblings yet she could understand their sadness after the events regarding Jaystar's departure. His death... hit everyone deep inside and Riverclan, in general, was going to need time to recover from that important loss. Not only Jaystar's living relatives but all those who knew him, respected him and followed him for so many moons.

With a heavy heart, Ivybrook padded out on the first patrol she would be taking since she lost her father. Her mind was completely elsewhere; while she should be focusing on which patrols to organize and who needed to be apprenticed, she was instead thinking about her mother and father, and how her siblings were doing now that they had knowledge of their true origins. She was suddenly pulled back into reality, though, when Berrycloud spoke up. "Oh, uh... yeah." She shook her head slightly, continuing forwards a little. She looked back to Redpaw for a moment, remembering the recent events. "You can stray from us just a little in order to catch prey if you need to, but don't go too far. And don't get too close to the Gorge." Her voice held a solemn tone as she spoke to the younger cat, following the familiar path towards the River. She kept a special eye out for the familiar sheen of fish scales, quickly dipping her paw into the water when she finally spotted one. When she felt the same tug that every fish gave when you caught ahold of them, she yanked her paw back out, tossing it onto the ground beside her. She ended it quickly, sending a quick prayer up to StarClan before moving down the River a little.

The young apprentice watched, impressed, at the two experienced warriors hunting with such skill! How graceful, how swift they both were! No wonder they were both known as formidable members of the clan. The red-tiled she-cat waved her tail in excitement, ready to be just like them one day. A few paws away from the two siblings, the small she-cat reached the river and thought for a second what she would catch. Fish was an option but she also wanted to prove that she was good hunting land prey. So when she spotted a small tail between some reed bushes, the apprentice crouched down and approached it in silence, keeping her tail balanced with her body.

She jumped in and battle in the darkness of the reeds for a little while until her jaws caught something. The red-tailed cat stepped back to free her head from the reeds but all she got on her jaws was a fallen branch with leaves. Redpaw dropped it, frustrated yet she wasn't one to give up so easily. She would catch something, no matter what.

Berrycloud shivered at the mention of the Gorge, despite Ivybrook's solemn tone. During his sleep, he had seen over and over again his sister falling into those rapids, being followed shortly after by their father. Each night the tears wanted to come back to her eyes but the tom forced himself to not to. Jaystar was gone, there was a new leader and his sister was deputy. It was time to move forward, to love each other as Jaystar said.
The golden-furred tom followed the she-cat closely and got into a deeper part of the river by jumping over some rocks. He looked into his own reflection, remembering the day they both competed in that fishing contest Jaystar arranged for the apprentices. He smiled a bit, remembering those sweet memories and like that day, he swiftly hit the water, sending a fish up just in time for his jaws to catch it. The trashing of the animal did not last for too long and with expertise, the tom tossed it to the shore. "There goes another one!"
