A hot summer day (open)

Laying hear the freshkill pile with his tail tucked neatly under his front paws, Sunflower was taking a breather from all the hunting he'd been doing early in the day. The sun shined bright above the forest, casting it's hot rays down on its' inhabitants. While he had a short pelt and often found himself cold, the tom couldn't help but think it was almost too hot, but even so, he wasn't complaining. At least it wasn't cold or snowing, that was for sure.

Stormpaw padded towards the fresh-kill pile, her paws brushing against the sparse undergrowth. The heat was certainly uncomfortable for a long-furred cat like her, but she wasn’t one to complain. She’ll just have to deal with it. Plus, her mind was swirling with thoughts, and thinking through them proved good enough distraction from the heat.

As she picked out a good-looking egg from the assortment of prey, she suddenly realized someone else was there as well. Sunflower, a tom she wasn’t very familiar with, but didn’t have bad blood with either. The apprentice flicked her tail with mild anxiety. As she got older she found it harder and harder to keep up a nice conversation. She liked learning about stuff like the patterns different birds flew in, or the way a squirrel moved- not exactly interesting conversation topics. She still talked with others on more “normal” things, so that they were happy, but she didn’t like having to start conversation or something. But in this situation, wouldn’t it be appropriate to start small talk? What is she supposed to say? What if she accidentally hurt his feelings somehow?

”Hi, Sunflower,” she greeted. Her voice sounded natural enough, but inside she was quietly worrying about offending him somehow. ”Is the hunting good today?”

Not having been expecting any company, Sunflower's head shot up at the sound of some-cat's voice. Blinking in attempt to rid himself of his tired eyes, the form of an apprentice soon became clearer and he recognized the younger tom to be Stormpaw. He didn't know the apprentice very well, seeing as though they hadn't done much, or any, patrols together.

"H-hello," the abnormally large eared tom mewed with a curt nod. "It w-was," Sunflower added, keeping his words short and simple, per usual. He personally didn't mind the company, but wasn't one to ever really talk much, so cats usually ended up growing bored with his presence, which he was fine with, most of the time.
