Okay, I haven't thought through this a whole lot, but I'm gonna put down the basic thing (which I'll hopefully improve on later).

Essentially, Murkpaw gets a friend/friends. Once they're back in Clan territory for some reason they go down near the Thunderpath, perhaps to check out borders or hunt, and they encounter a predator or something like that. Friend/friends are in serious danger and the thing could kill them, so Murk risks his life to help save them and in the process drives off the predator or whatever but is seriously wounded. After whatever attacks them is run off or killed, Murk - half-delirious from pain and whatnot - catches a faintly familiar scent and drags himself to the bush he was born in before dying.
