Pricklepaw waited, bored, by the camp entrance with two small bundles of bitter herbs. His tail-tip flicked in impatience, paws sinking into the melting snow beneath him. The air was still chilly, but the ground all over the territory had turned to slush. This weather annoyed him to no end, as did the constant stream of Moonstone journeys that never let up. When would he get his full name?

"We have to eat those, right?" Batpaw asked in place of a greeting, approaching nonchalantly with an expression of mild curiosity. "We can't just pretend they don't exist?" She was torn: the bundled herbs looked far from appealing, but the journey ahead of her was bound to be exciting, even if nothing out of the ordinary occured. She certainly hoped nothing would, one grand adventure was more than enough for the time being.

"Sure you can," Pricklepaw snarked back, not in the mood for games. "But if you faint halfway through the journey without the extra strength, I'll drag you back to camp and you won't get a second chance. I prepared them for a reason, but don't listen to me, I'm just the medicine cat." He swallowed his own herbs without complaint, feeling the familiarly bitter bundle slide down his dry throat. The faster this was done, the faster he could get to important duties.

Batpaw's expression fell slightly at recalling the medicine cat's attitude, but she chewed and swallowed the herbs as instructed. They were, somehow, worse than they appeared, but she forced herself to remain silent on them. "Alright, I was just asking... There, it's done, can we leave now?" Typically she possessed a decent amount of patience, but if Pricklepaw was going to be... Well, Pricklepaw, she was just as eager to get this over with. Overall, Batpaw liked socializing with her Clanmates, but she preferred her interactions to be pleasant. If Pricklepaw didn't want to speak, she wasn't about to force a conversation that would only serve to make them both miserable. Still, she was determined to make it through this as quickly as possible: her brothers had already done so, and she wasn't looking forward to falling behind them any more than she already had, in case they decided to hold it over her as she was positive they would.

So, he'd annoyed her. Excellent. Now, she knew how he felt all the time... Maybe this journey wouldn't be too awful after all, if Batpaw was quiet. He nodded, raising an eyebrow at her response, then turned and flicked his tail, motioning for her to follow. His paws automatically followed their usual path through the slushy mix of mud and melting snow, allowing him to not have to engage or think. Some time to relax.

Batpaw followed in silence at first, but quickly grew bored. Just because she wasn't going to speak to Pricklepaw didn't mean she couldn't speak at all, she supposed. Whether or not he thought she was addressing him was his own problem, as far as she was concerned. Glancing at the slush as they walked through it, she mused, "Is this stuff ever actually going to go away? Or will we have to trudge through it for the rest of our lives?" She had heard that it would, sure, but that didn't mean she believed it. She'd heard plenty of things when she was still a kit that she didn't believe, after all.

For a while, it was nice and quiet... then she felt the need to speak up again. Pricklepaw sighed, looking down at the slush and also wishing it was gone. "It'll melt eventually," he mumbled, before looking back up to see that now they were at the Thunderpath. The strange black surface that he could never quite get used to stretched an unfathomable expanse before him, reeking of strange, Twoleg-like scents. Pricklepaw turned back to see that his charge Batpaw was still there, then spoke. "Okay. So we need to be very careful here, or we'll get trampled by monsters. First, we look both ways-" His spiel was interrupted by a monster screeching by, eyes glaring as it rushed in front of him, giant and imposing and absolutely terrifying. The medicine cat apprentice took a deeper breath, then continued. "We look both ways to make sure we don't see any monsters. Then, on my mark, we run. Okay, Batpaw?" She may not have liked to listen to him, but this was important, and the gravity in his tone informed her of that.

Batpaw listened quietly, trying to make sure she understood everything here. "Look both ways, wait for your signal, and then run?" she asked, wanting to be incredibly clear. Being trampled by monsters was absolutely not something she wanted out of her life. "Okay," she said after a moment, and then waited for that signal.

Pricklepaw looked back and forth, back and forth, checking and double checking... he had to get this right. Finally, after another monster roared by and left its thick cloud of choking dust, he yelled "now!" Without time for hesitation, he began the sprint across the Thunderpath, glancing back to make sure that Batpaw wasn't falling behind. While the she-cat wasn't his favorite, he was responsible for her and wished her no harm.

Batpaw ran forward at Pricklepaw's signal, racing across the Thunderpath without letting herself think about what she was doing. Once they'd reached the other side, she stopped to look at him. He'd done this before, and he would do it again. It gave her a newfound respect for ThunderClan's medicine cat, more than she already had.

The medicine cat nodded in relief when they finally arrived, then without further ado resumed the journey. They were getting closer, and hopefully they'd be there soon without any interference or strange things happening.

**Time Skip**

Finally, they were at the Moonstone. Barely sparing a glance for the tall, sparkling spire, the ThunderClan Tom turned to Batpaw. "Touch your nose to the stone, and StarClan will speak with you."

Batpaw approached the stone cautiously, looking at it. It was beautiful; there was no other word for it, as mixed as her feelings on their ancestors were. She was supposed to touch her nose to it? She did so, slowly, and felt herself fall asleep: fall, yes, not drift or fade from consciousness. This was it, then... The rite of passage of all apprentices. A chance to speak with StarClan. She couldn't tell if she was dreading what they would have to say to her or not. All she knew was that she was incredibly nervous.

As the soft, cool mist enveloped the young apprentice's consciousness and the feeling of falling began to fade, she was embraced with the most odd sensation of calm. She soon could tell that she was no longer alone.

The presence was surreal, something she could feel and understand in her chest rather than through the senses she relied so heavily on in everyday life. She somehow knew the other cat stood only a foxlength away before even opening her eyes... though the mysterious other being made no sound to give away her location. The Starclanner didn't even have a distinct clan scent. In fact, the only thing Batpaw could taste on the air was the faintest scent of newly fallen rain. The kind that came just after a storm had soaked the forest around them, bringing new life for the coming sunrises ahead.

A soft silver tabby cat stood before Batpaw, the long fur of her tail swaying with every friendly swish of the long appendage. She was gorgeous, her long fur capturing the starlight in a captivating, ethereal manner. Her blue-grey gaze studied the young Thunderclanner, a small smile warming her expression. After letting the apprentice take a moment to study her new surroundings, the she-cat eventually spoke with a soft, nearly musical voice.

"Drizzlepawpaw likes you already Bitbat. Welcome home~"

Drizzle... pawpaw? What was... No, scratch that, who was this? What kind of name was that? And what had she called her... Bitbat? That wasn't even a warrior name, let alone an apprentice name. Was she even in StarClan?

While Batpaw could almost feel her initial reservations fading, new ones were quickly taking their place. Still, if this somehow was StarClan, she didn't particularly want to anger them. "It's... Nice to meet you, Drizzle...pawpaw?" A thousand other questions were on the tip of her tongue - why was she here, where was here, who was Drizzlepawpaw, what was she supposed to learn? But she wondered if she was supposed to ask those questions, if this was somehow a test. There was too much wondering, too many questions and not enough answers. Eventually, she decided to simply ask one of them and hope she'd receive an answer she could understand. "Who are you?"

The silver tabby's smile seemed to widen even further and she popped to her paws, eyes bright with barely restrained delight. The she-cat's seemingly excitable behavior did not match her elegant appearance in the slightest, but amazingly enough wasn't at all disconcerting. The silver tabby padded over to Batpaw, brushing pelts affectionately with the Thunderclanner before winding around behind Batpaw to press against her other side. "Drizzle is Drizzle, and Drizzle is very happy to meet the bitkitpaw! Drizzlekit has heard a lot about the Batbit, and Pawpaw is very happy to be here to say hi to the Pawbat."

And with that, the enigmatic, gleeful starclan cat bounded off, stopping only a few foxlengths away before looking back with a small giggle. "Come Bitbat! Come come! Drizzlepaw wants to show the Bat something that Drizzle thinks the Bitbat would like!"
