Her kits were getting apprenticed, her own appre had, returned home, and it was time to pretend she had a normal life again. Though Poppyheart was still missing and she was still suffering from the fire's aftermath, Redwing had an apprentice to train and a Clan to hunt for. So she waited by the entrance of camp, awake and alert yet still drained of energy, waiting for Silentpaw to come patrol with her.

Quietly, Silentpaw padded up to her mentor and nodded to her. "S-sorry for the wait... Mothpaw wouldn't get up..." She admitted meekly. Her sister had taken to relocating herself into Silentpaw's nest in the middle of the night and curling up with her. Silentpaw didn't mind it, but it sometimes made leaving the nest to go help with clan duties... difficult. Especially with how heavy a sleeper Mothpaw could be.

"Don't worry, that's fine," Redwing purred easily. "You've been gone for a long while; it's only fair you get some time with her." All her troubles flew out of her mind, consumed instead by the here and now- otherwise she knew she'd never get out of her own head. "Well, are you ready to start hunting?" Her green eyes were kind, looking at Silentpaw and remembering when she used to be that young.

Silentpaw's gaze flit to the camp entrance apprehensively, then back to her mentor. It seemed almost funny that after all she'd been through in the twoleg place that she was only now learning how to hunt. The thought of leaving the camp was jarring and made her feel uneasy. Her last excursion into unknown territory hadn't exactly gone as planned.

But...

She nodded to the pretty russet she-cat a second time, her anxiety making the motion look ever so slightly forced. She was scared, sure, but she didn't want that fear to continue ruling her. She'd acted at the gathering.

She needed to learn how to do that again.

Redwing was more than a little bit nervous, trying to train this apprentice who'd been gone for so long, noting the wildness kept at bay in her eyes. But, wasn't she feeling that way herself, somewhat? She had to just move out of herself and her comfort zone and teach this poor she-cat, who obviously needed some sort of steady rock in her lives. "How much have you learned?" she began gently as they started to walk out. Slowly, so Silentpaw would feel okay. "Have you hunted anything before?"

Silentpaw shook her head, still speaking as little as possible.

Thinking back on it, she remembered the other, older apprentices hunting for them. Sharptooth had even fed them at one point. She'd wanted to ask one of them to show her how to hunt but... anxiety won out in the end and she stayed quiet. Not to mention, on the last leg of their journey home, she and Mothpaw hadn't even been able to find anything to try and hunt.

The she-cat's gaze fell to the ground, realizing how useless she must have seemed during that whole disaster...

"Okay, then," Redwing responded as her apprentice shook her head. "We'll start with the basics." They'd walked far enough now that it was possible she could encounter some prey... The warrior scented the air, and sure enough, a bold was rooting through the bushes about a fox-length away. "Can you smell any prey in the air, Silentpaw? You know the scents you've eaten prey since you were old enough to chew. Just sort through all the smells ik the air and find one you recognize from the fresh-kill pile."
