First time for everything (closed)

Spottedleap paused at the mouth of the apprentices' den, feeling as though he were still dreaming. He'd recently been assigned an apprentice, which was not unexpected yet a bit jarring. Well, there goes his plans of sleeping in for the next six-to-nine moons. But the youngest warrior wasn't resentful or even upset about his new responsibilities. Instead, he was more uncertain. How exactly did one train an apprentice? His own apprenticeship disappeared into the void of his memories. Something about leading by example, or so he thought. The ginger tom sighed. The snow was beating down on him and wind whipped around his muscular frame, telling him to get a move on. No matter what, he'd train this apprentice, like Condorshade did for him. Spottedleap stepped into the den and found Cloverpaw asleep with the rest. "Cloverpaw! Wake up and let's go!" He hissed, sterner than he intended. He withdrew to wait by the camp entrance.

Cloverpaw was deeply sleeping in the apprentices den. Her paws were twitching and she was faintly snoring. She was dreaming. She was chasing a mouse. Quietly, she stalked behind it. She finally jumped, but the second she was about to hit the mouses body, the world turned into a bright light. Cloverpaw had waken up, and to the hiss of her new mentor. She watched Spottedleap walk out of the apprentices den. She'd better get up and go out there. With a small groan, the cream colored apprentice pulled herself out of the softness of the moss nest. She groggily walked out of the den and shook off the scraps of moss that clung to her pelt, though the bitter wind did most of that for her. She  fluffed up her fur and walked toward Spottedleap, who was waiting at the camp entrance. "What are we gonna do first?!" Cloverpaw asked, excitement glimmering in her green eyes. Her pelt was tingling with excitement, and she was almost jumping out of her pelt.

OOC: oof I posted this and then promptly realized I should have asked you if you've learned the system before. Are you familiar with it at all?

He stood when her saw her leave the den. Spottedleap was eager to get out of camp, and herded the young apprentice out with impatience. "I was thinking I'd teach you how to hunt." He meowed casually, as though he might change his mind and make her clean out the elders' bedding at any moment. But he wasn't feeling cruel today and continued walking along a well-worn path, paws sinking into muddied snow where cats had treaded for several days now. Spottedleap wanted to get fairly deep into the territory before stopping to teach her. It would be stupid for another cat to interrupt them and make her lose her focus.

Halting a good distance into the territory, the warrior turned to Cloverpaw with a relaxed flick of his tail. He was a great hunter, there'd be no issue at all teaching this kid how to do this. That's what he told himself, anyway. "So first you gotta find the prey. You can't hunt what isn't there." Spottedleap meowed snarkily. But he was being too straightforward. His mentor hardly ever said anything to him, and yet he'd figured it out just fine. Straightening up, the tom flicked his shredded ear and quickly located a bright red cardinal sitting dumbly on a fallen tree. He motioned for Cloverpaw to watch, and he stalked carefully forward before leaping at a surprisingly great distance. He wasn't one for patience. His great leap yielded excellent results, with a single paw smashing down on the cardinal's head and breaking its neck with practiced ease. He swung around, bird clamped in his jaws, and nodded to Cloverpaw to copy him and do the same.
