Hollypaw was bored, which wasn't a surprise. She usually found herself in this state, because there was nothing to do. Or nothing interesting for that matter. The black and white she-cat was the last surviving of her litter. With her two brothers and one sister having passed away during kithood. Sad, really. Scorchstar and Minnowcall had taken their deaths hard, but Hollypaw couldn't bring herself to sadness. Just one of the many ways she had failed at being socially adept.
What was sad though, was Hollypaw's lack of friends. The apprentice didn't like friends, but she liked investigating them. Exposing her clanmates' quirks and secrets was surprisingly quite fun. And the look on their faces when she did it, was priceless. Her first target was Tansyheart, her mentor. But unsurprisingly, Tansyheart mistook Hollypaw's so-called curiosity for disobedience, and scolded her for it. So now Hollypaw had to find a new target, or friend. Her next idea was the three kits that had been apprenticed recently. Lichenmask's kits. Now they had to have some interesting stories. The only problem was, it was barely dawn. The sun hadn't even broken through the trees yet, and every cat but Hollypaw was asleep. Mousebrains... She silently scolded her clanmates.

Sleep isn't that important... Hollypaw told herself, having made her way to the apprentice's den. She stood over a tri-colored tom whose name she had found was Burntpaw. The black and white she-cat lowered her muzzle to his ear and hissed; "Wake up!" She highly anticipated watching the tom's reaction. "Come on, we're going on an adventure." Without waiting for a response, Hollypaw spun on her heels toward the exit, hoping Burntpaw would follow her. If he doesn't, he's not worth my time.

The night hadn't ended that long ago. Dawn patrols were preparing to return from their final rounds and the exhausted efforts to catch what sparse prey still scurried among the dried undergrowth that managed to peak through the frozen wasteland of the marshes. Blessed with a wonderfully dense and long-furred coat, the apprentice found himself grateful for the near untamable mess that comprised his pelt. While he had found thrill in the bustling nature of the clan and his thoughts of a grand future for the clan spurred him on, for now, Burntpaw was contented to curl up in the tightly woven nest. It was sparser than both the hay nest that he had been born into and the plush areas of the nursery. But it did not bother him, merely make the memory of life in the barn seem like a long-lost fantasy. However, he had been blessed with kit-like ignorance at the time.

With a form as tightly coiled as the bed in which he lay, Burntpaw's chin rested over his hindpaws with his feathery tail wrapped over his nose. No memories, nor fantastical nightmares, plagued his dreams tonight. It was simply a pure and restful sleep. At least until a voice, as forceful as the prodding of Slatepaw's paw, broke into his unconscious state. The calico tom blinked once and slowly took in the sight of the black and white she-cat with his intense green stare. While he contemplated flicking his tail at the other apprentice and returning to his sleep, Burntpaw found himself drawn to his paws instead. This was a clanmate that he had not gotten to know yet. And while he was mildly aggravated by the demand in her voice, he reassured himself that he was following out of mild interest instead of obedience. While his steps may follow, she was not leading.

"Where is this adventure to?" He inquired mildly as he hesitated briefly at her side. Being out in the territory, disregarding the frigid state of the land, was something he had come to enjoy and it was difficult to fight the natural urge to slip through the entrance. As Burntpaw waited for an answer casually raising a brow towards her in question, the tom briefly turned his head his head to lick down some of the furs that had stuck up in his sleep. At least one thing had not changed since his kithood, and that was the malcontent at an untidy coat. Once he had swiftly tamed the disturbance, Burntpaw allowed his half-attentive state back to Hollypaw.

Thornpaw couldn't sleep... not that that was anything particularly new to her. In fact she'd been this way since she'd managed to escape the cruel white walls of the twoleg dens. She wouldn't admit it to any living cat, but she had nightmares of the events. Her trust in her clanmates was decidedly lacking at the moment as well. Exhaling deeply through her nose, the she-cat lay in her new nest with a half-lidded eye. She had long since outgrown this den and it's occupants but hadn't yet had the chance to show Scorchstar that she was ready to receive her warrior name... or at least, that's what she assumed. She couldn't help but remember the time when that was all she dreamed about. She nearly chuckled aloud, thinking back to her days as a young apprentice. She and Sootpaw were ready to take on the world, no holds barred. They were the fire that would have changed the clans. She was such a kit then, competing with Wildpaw day and night for self gratification.

Oh, how things had changed.

A dull ache resounded through her chest. She missed those days more than she could have ever imagined. Her own lost innocence hovered just out of reach, taunting her with the peace she longed for but would never grasp again. As she watched the sleeping kits around her she sighed once more. Thornpaw wasn't quite sure what had come over her lately. She wasn't usually the introspective type... maybe it had something to do with the quiet of the night and the overwhelming loneliness she couldn't seem to shake from her pelt. Letting her mind drift into the more hazy, helpless recesses of her mind was a dangerous pastime that she more often avoided than not.

But this time, it seemed she didn't have to drag herself free from them on her own.

She watched as a seemingly restless apprentice rose from her nest and trotted over to the nest of another. She said something Thornpaw couldn't quite pick up, even in the quiet of the den, before turning and making her way towards the entrance of the den. The second apprentice lifted his head to stare after her a moment before rising to his paws and tailing her. Thornpaw stared at the entrance to the den for a long moment before huffing in mild irritation and rising to her paws. No matter how distrustful of her clanmates she was at the moment, she wasn't about to let two ignorant kits run off and get themselves killed for whatever fantastical exploits they had in mind. She gave her pelt a customary shake to rid herself of... at least most of the debris clinging to it. She didn't waste time taming the wild mess that it typically was, opting to follow the two instead.

"Where are you two fleabrains disappearing off to?"

ooc: sorry for the wait! Also, thank you for dealing with trash bucket Hollypaw, she will be happy to have friends XD

Satisfaction bubbled in Hollypaw's chest as Burntpaw's paw steps echoed behind her. Curiosity... Over the small number of moons Hollypaw had been alive, she had learned that curiosity, of all things, could lead a cat anywhere. Dangerous, really. But an exceptional asset to a cat like Hollypaw. The gray light of dawn lit Hollypaw's black and white pelt a murky cobalt as she emerged from the apprentice's den. The tri-colored tom followed.
It was almost annoying how complient Burntpaw was. Hollypaw would be lying if she said she didn't take delight in how others perceived her. She could've hissed in any other cats' ear, and would've recieved a look of confusion, or anger. But Burntpaw's confident personality seemed to portray itself in all contexts. Even during impulsive escapades at dawn.
There's the question... Hollypaw thought, stopping in her tracks. ...where exactly is this adventure to?

"Snakes." The apprentice stated, claws digging into the dirt. "We need to catch a snake." The daftness of her clanmates always surprised her. Hollypaw often found herself wondering what was going on in their small minds. Interesting, nonetheless, but small. She hated having to explain herself.

Another apprentice emerged from the den, and, to no surprise to Hollypaw, asked a question. As the she-cat emerged from the gloom, Hollypaw recognized her as Thornpaw, one of the apprentices she had yet to be acquainted with.

But time was passing quickly, and the black and white apprentice needed her reptile. She didn't have time to give Thornpaw a lengthy explanation, so Hollypaw simpily spun around and shouted "SNAKES!"
Hollypaw stormed out of camp, beconing Burntpaw and Thornpaw to follow her. She knew she didn't fit in. She knew she wasn't socially adept. But none of those things bothered Hollypaw. Her so-called intellect overshadowed it all. It led her to do crazy things like wake random cats up at dawn and hunt snakes for a reason only she knew. But she was secretly thankful for the cats that trailed behind her in the early dawn. Hollypaw didn't know them, but she would.

Crickets chirped as the three stood in the marshy soil. Pine trees creaked and an icy wind sliced through the territory. Hollypaw shivered. What do snakes do in leaf-bare? She suddenly wished she had paid attention to Tansyheart on one of their recent patrols. Sheepishly, Hollypaw cast a glance to Burntpaw and Thornpaw. "How do we find a snake?" Hollypaw asked dryly, hoping her nonchalant approach would mask her rare ignorance on a subject.
